{WW} Week One Recap.

Well ladies and gents, I have officially been on Weight Watchers online program for one week! Yahoo!

Weight Loss: Four Pounds

(It is known that you will lose the most your first week. After that, you are supposed to lose 1-2 lbs. per week. They promote slow and steady weight loss, as it typically stays off by losing it with a healthy diet and exercise. I am just thankful for a nice start, but I am not expecting these numbers in the coming weeks.)

I want to document my progress (maybe weekly, maybe bi-monthly) so that I can be accountable and so maybe I can help out someone who is searching for a healthy way to change their lifestyle. Not only do we want to lose weight as a family, but we want to better our health. Heart disease runs ALL over both Husby and my families, so we know that if we want to be healthy grandparents one day, we need to make changes now.

Let me just say that I was floored with my first week of WW. In all honesty, I can say that it was an absolute breeze. With the new Points Plus+ program, all fruit and most vegetables (except for the starchy ones) are 0 points. Zero! That means you can eat as many as you want. I have a feeling that if I was on the old program and I had a few points left in the day, I would have wasted it on a smart choice cookie or something rather than a banana. You know what I am saying? But now that fruit is free, it encourages eating more of them.

And it has worked.

I have eaten more fruit and veggies over the past week than I have in the past couple of months combined, I bet. Well, maybe not .... but close! I have not felt deprived in the least because you can basically have anything - it's all about moderation. Now don't get me wrong, I have used my points on healthy foods all week because we are trying to get away from grease, sugar and things that harm your body. I have not had a single craving for fatty foods; instead, I am craving the healthy ones! I am telling you, it's weird.

This program is most definitely a lifestyle makeover and not a diet. It hasn't even felt like a diet. I guess because it isn't. :)

With each recap, I want to share with you some tips that I've used or some things that make this new lifestyle easier. Also, I want to share some recipes.

Since I have never done WW before, some friends let me in on a few little snack secrets - like these!

Eh. It's okay. It's not fantastic. But I am kind of a yogurt snob. Whole Foods will do it to you.

The brownies are amazing. They are only two points so sometimes if I need a pick-me-up in the afternoons or a little something sweet after supper, I grab one of these. Oh, they are good. I haven't yet tried the muffins, but rumor has it they are delightful.

And the Hallelujah Chorus plays....

Seriously? ICE CREAM? That is a large part of what packed on the pounds for me. When I was pregnant in my third trimester, I found it absolutely necessary to have a scoop of german chocolate ice cream in a cake cone nearly every evening. Oh, yes.

The WW ice cream is very low-point and a great treat at the end of the day if you need more than the sweetness that fruit provides. I have tried the knock off Snickers bar and an orange creme bar - both are fabulous.

And the recipe of the week is:

WHITE CHICKEN CHILI - recipe from a fellow WW'ing friend!
1 Cup = 2 Points.

1 large onion, minced
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
20 oz. chicken breast (boneless, skinless)
2 - 15 oz. cans navy beans, drained
3 C. fat free chicken broth
12 oz. can tomatoes with green chilis
1/2 tsp. oregeno
1/2 tsp. ground cumin (I omitted this)
1/2 tsp. white pepper (I used black)
8 oz. fat free sour cream
1/2 C. fat free half and half

Saute onion in cooking spray and then add garlic powder, oregano, cumin & pepper. Add all the other ingredients except the sour cream and half and half. Bring to boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream and half and half.

Enjoy, Lovies!

  1. That's awesome you found something that works so well for you! I've also never seen a grocery store with such weight watchers choices, or maybe I've never noticed them in my own. I'd consider joining if I didn't just discover that I have a reason for eating for more than just one ;-)

    Cabin Fever in Vermont

  2. Good for you & keep up the good work......I am going to have to look into this for after the baby is born since the ice cream & snacks look so good!!

  3. Great job so far! I know this is a lifesyle change and not just a diet.It makes it that much easier when the muffins and brownies look so good! That's greatyou can have all the fruit and veggies you want too! I will have to try the white chicken chilli recipe.I am a carbs lover so that is my biggest challenge with making right choices. Thanks for the recipe :)

  4. Great job on Week 1! I just started week 3 today. I'm not sure if your grocery store is like this too, but make sure you look closely at the WW food packaging. Since the Points Plus program is so new, some stores are still selling the old programs food until they get rid of their stock and then they will get the new stuff. So your points might be a tad off. I know the yogurt is higher than it says on the package and so is the cream cheese, because they have the old points value. The way you can tell is they will just say Points on them, not points plus. I just input them into my points calculator and correct them with a sharpie when I get home(what I do with all my food too, makes it easy to just grab stuff!)

    Good luck!!

  5. I LOVE the WW blue berry muffins! I think they are so yummy!! Great job sticking with the points through the first week =)

  6. Yippe! It's a great feeling to get a result equivalent to your effort! I also had my first WW weigh in and list 5 pounds! While the 1-2 pound loss is more average, I tend to have a big loss the first week. I only have about 15 more pounds to lose and I love that you are blogging about this because this last bit of weight is always the hardest for me. Thank you for taking us along on your journey!!

  7. Great job, Whitney! I need to follow your lead. We're trying to eat healthy, but I feel like I need more structure. This may do the trick. Keep up the good work!

  8. Congratulations on your success!!! Keep us posted.

  9. Good job girlie! I have done WW before, but never the online program. How does it work? I want to get back on the program since the new one is out but there are no meetings near me :( Do you like the online program? What are your thoughts/opinions? I would LOVE to hear them!

  10. Great job!! I'm restarting WW today so I'll be sure to share any recipe faves. Definitely check out if you haven't yet... her recipes are fantastic! We are making the chicken enchiladas this week. I also love the WW fudge ice cream bars and the cookies and cream... so good! Hope week 2 is successful for you!!

  11. Congrats on four pounds! That's awesome. What is your weight loss goal?

My mom lost like 60 pounds on weight watchers after having I think me... she ate a little too much when she was pregnant. (-:

Coinciding with your healthy eating, do you guys have a fitness/exercise plan?

  12. Good for you!! I will probably pickup WW once the baby comes! Gotta do something! I've only heard good things about the WW program. Good luck!

  13. Good job! I started WW 2 weeks ago as well. I've loved it so far.

Just warning you about he points listed on those products...they aren't the updated 'Points Plus' points. So, like the WW ice cream cups are actually 4 points now instead of 2. The new points are a blue circle instead of white. Stores haven't stocked much of the new WW foods yet because I'm assuming they are waiting to sell all of the old packaging first.

  14. Yay! Congratulations!! Remember some Progressive soups have 0 pts so if you get really hungry you can snack on a cup of soup! :)

  15. Congratulations on the weight loss!! I really hope that you choose to update us weekly. I love reading other people's weight loss journies, and I read your blog everyday anyway! :) I have been working out and eating healthy (1200 cals or less a day) since the end of September and have lost over 30 lbs so far. Can't wait to see you achieve your goals! Keep up the good work!

  16. I've lost 12 lbs in the past 7 weeks on Weight Watchers and that counts during Christmas and New Years.

  17. i am SO inspired by this! i've been on WW for about 12 weeks now and am at the same weight. needless to say i've not changed anything about my diet. i have good days and bad days. i love your suggestions and PLEASE keep us updated PLEASE!!!!! i LOVE your blog!

  18. I started WW this morning and went to my first meeting last night. I am appreciate the reviews on the snacks. I would hate to waste points on crappy snacks. I am assuming that the points given for the recipe is points+ but would you be kind enough to specify? There are still people following the old points system.

  19. I posted another WW recipe today. I am going to have to try the white chicken chili. I had one of the WW snicker knock offs last night and was surprised with how good it was. The giant fudge bars are yummy too. Congrats on your first week. Keep up the great work!

  20. That recipe sounds delicious - I might have to try it! Except I'm going to have to google whatever a navy bean is. (o:

    Congrats on 4 pounds!

  21. I LOVE their ice cream, especially the cookies and cream. Definitely try it if you get a chance!! Keep up the great work! :)

  22. I'm not even on WW and I love there ice cream :)

  23. Wow, well done! That's great.
I hope you find it so successful in the weeks to come.
Thanks for the receipe too! :)

  24. I'm also doing WW and this Sunday will be my official full week of counting. Thank you for the tips I had no idea there was so much WW food to choose from! The ice cream looks so good ha-ha.

    Great job on week one!

Wanna be WW friends? Look me up

  25. Good luck with the weight loss!! I know you can do it. If I can do it so can ANYONE :) Thanks for the tips on the WW ice cream section. I may have to try that one out :)

  26. Gotta try this recipe, thank you for sharing! If you want to check your internet connection or change wifi password, all the tutorials needed are available on 192.168.l.l with full instructions.

  27. I know what it takes to have a good credit score or to maintain it. My credit took a bad turn after I took a business loan late last year. I was at 850+ and after applying for a loan, my credit score dropped drastically. “WEBDRIVE AT WRITEME DOT COM” team was so helpful after complaining to them. I’m so grateful.
