{WW} Week One Recap.

Well ladies and gents, I have officially been on Weight Watchers online program for one week! Yahoo!

Weight Loss: Four Pounds

(It is known that you will lose the most your first week. After that, you are supposed to lose 1-2 lbs. per week. They promote slow and steady weight loss, as it typically stays off by losing it with a healthy diet and exercise. I am just thankful for a nice start, but I am not expecting these numbers in the coming weeks.)

I want to document my progress (maybe weekly, maybe bi-monthly) so that I can be accountable and so maybe I can help out someone who is searching for a healthy way to change their lifestyle. Not only do we want to lose weight as a family, but we want to better our health. Heart disease runs ALL over both Husby and my families, so we know that if we want to be healthy grandparents one day, we need to make changes now.

Let me just say that I was floored with my first week of WW. In all honesty, I can say that it was an absolute breeze. With the new Points Plus+ program, all fruit and most vegetables (except for the starchy ones) are 0 points. Zero! That means you can eat as many as you want. I have a feeling that if I was on the old program and I had a few points left in the day, I would have wasted it on a smart choice cookie or something rather than a banana. You know what I am saying? But now that fruit is free, it encourages eating more of them.

And it has worked.

I have eaten more fruit and veggies over the past week than I have in the past couple of months combined, I bet. Well, maybe not .... but close! I have not felt deprived in the least because you can basically have anything - it's all about moderation. Now don't get me wrong, I have used my points on healthy foods all week because we are trying to get away from grease, sugar and things that harm your body. I have not had a single craving for fatty foods; instead, I am craving the healthy ones! I am telling you, it's weird.

This program is most definitely a lifestyle makeover and not a diet. It hasn't even felt like a diet. I guess because it isn't. :)

With each recap, I want to share with you some tips that I've used or some things that make this new lifestyle easier. Also, I want to share some recipes.

Since I have never done WW before, some friends let me in on a few little snack secrets - like these!

Eh. It's okay. It's not fantastic. But I am kind of a yogurt snob. Whole Foods will do it to you.

The brownies are amazing. They are only two points so sometimes if I need a pick-me-up in the afternoons or a little something sweet after supper, I grab one of these. Oh, they are good. I haven't yet tried the muffins, but rumor has it they are delightful.

And the Hallelujah Chorus plays....

Seriously? ICE CREAM? That is a large part of what packed on the pounds for me. When I was pregnant in my third trimester, I found it absolutely necessary to have a scoop of german chocolate ice cream in a cake cone nearly every evening. Oh, yes.

The WW ice cream is very low-point and a great treat at the end of the day if you need more than the sweetness that fruit provides. I have tried the knock off Snickers bar and an orange creme bar - both are fabulous.

And the recipe of the week is:

WHITE CHICKEN CHILI - recipe from a fellow WW'ing friend!
1 Cup = 2 Points.

1 large onion, minced
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
20 oz. chicken breast (boneless, skinless)
2 - 15 oz. cans navy beans, drained
3 C. fat free chicken broth
12 oz. can tomatoes with green chilis
1/2 tsp. oregeno
1/2 tsp. ground cumin (I omitted this)
1/2 tsp. white pepper (I used black)
8 oz. fat free sour cream
1/2 C. fat free half and half

Saute onion in cooking spray and then add garlic powder, oregano, cumin & pepper. Add all the other ingredients except the sour cream and half and half. Bring to boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream and half and half.

Enjoy, Lovies!

  1. That's awesome you found something that works so well for you! I've also never seen a grocery store with such weight watchers choices, or maybe I've never noticed them in my own. I'd consider joining if I didn't just discover that I have a reason for eating for more than just one ;-)

  4. Great job on Week 1! I just started week 3 today. I'm not sure if your grocery store is like this too, but make sure you look closely at the WW food packaging. Since the Points Plus program is so new, some stores are still selling the old programs food until they get rid of their stock and then they will get the new stuff. So your points might be a tad off. I know the yogurt is higher than it says on the package and so is the cream cheese, because they have the old points value. The way you can tell is they will just say Points on them, not points plus. I just input them into my points calculator and correct them with a sharpie when I get home(what I do with all my food too, makes it easy to just grab stuff!)

    Good luck!!

  6. Yippe! It's a great feeling to get a result equivalent to your effort! I also had my first WW weigh in and list 5 pounds! While the 1-2 pound loss is more average, I tend to have a big loss the first week. I only have about 15 more pounds to lose and I love that you are blogging about this because this last bit of weight is always the hardest for me. Thank you for taking us along on your journey!!

  11. Congrats on four pounds! That's awesome. What is your weight loss goal?

My mom lost like 60 pounds on weight watchers after having I think me... she ate a little too much when she was pregnant. (-:

Coinciding with your healthy eating, do you guys have a fitness/exercise plan?

  13. Good job! I started WW 2 weeks ago as well. I've loved it so far.

Just warning you about he points listed on those products...they aren't the updated 'Points Plus' points. So, like the WW ice cream cups are actually 4 points now instead of 2. The new points are a blue circle instead of white. Stores haven't stocked much of the new WW foods yet because I'm assuming they are waiting to sell all of the old packaging first.

  14. Yay! Congratulations!! Remember some Progressive soups have 0 pts so if you get really hungry you can snack on a cup of soup! :)

  18. I started WW this morning and went to my first meeting last night. I am appreciate the reviews on the snacks. I would hate to waste points on crappy snacks. I am assuming that the points given for the recipe is points+ but would you be kind enough to specify? There are still people following the old points system.

    Thanks!

  27. I know what it takes to have a good credit score or to maintain it. My credit took a bad turn after I took a business loan late last year. I was at 850+ and after applying for a loan, my credit score dropped drastically. “WEBDRIVE AT WRITEME DOT COM” team was so helpful after complaining to them. I’m so grateful.
