Why Must We Torture The Children?

All morning long all I heard about was "see eater bunny!!!!" from Levi. I had him pretty pumped up to go see Mr. Easter Bunny himself, and Levi wouldn't go 5 minutes without talking about him. "Eater Bunny" this, "Eater Bunny" that. I couldn't wait to see his face when he saw the real deal.

When he peered through the picturesque picket fence and laid eyes on the big white bunny, Levi just quietly smiled. He wouldn't take his eyes off of him. Mr. Bunny kept waving at him from the line and Levi shyly and sweetly waved back with the biggest smile on his face.

I bent down next to Levi and told him how excited Mr. Bunny was to see him, and that he was our friend. I told him that Mr. Bunny had been waiting all day to see him. Levi just smiled.

It was finally our turn to go see the bunny up close and Levi hesitantly approached him, never letting go of my hand. He smiled at Mr. Bunny and gave him a high five.

Then, the picture lady asked me to place Levi on Mr. Bunny's lap.

Here we go...

All of a sudden, Mr. Bunny wasn't so fun.

photo-2

In fact, Mr. Bunny was quite terrifying.

Mr. Bunny was the last thing Levi wanted and he wanted out of there that very second.

I finally coaxed him into sitting on my lap next to the bunny, so that we could have some sort of solid documentation to the day, and so that we could mark it off as (somewhat of) a success! :)

So, here you have it. Mr. Bunny, Mommy the buffer and poor little splotchy Weebie.

Oh, but it doesn't end there.

Soon after this picture was taken and we were waiting to be checked out, Husby said, "Whitney. You would NOT stop petting that bunny's leg! I was mortified!!"

"What?", I said, completely shocked at what he was saying.

"Yes, you kept PETTING him and telling Levi how much we love the bunny and that the bunny is nice. You rubbed his leg the entire time!"

I watched the video back (Husby videoed the disastrous event from my phone) and sure enough, there I was, RUBBING THE BUNNY'S LEG THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE WITH HIM. I felt like an absolute moron! What kind of freak must this guy/girl have thought I was?!

Next time, I will repeat to myself the entire way there: The Bunny Is Not Real. There Is A PERSON Under That Costume. Do NOT Pet The Bunny. Keep Your Hands To Yourself, WOMAN!

Oh, I worry myself. What do unknowingly do when Husby is not around to keep me in line? Oh dear me.

If we've met and I have unknowingly invaded your personal space in ANY way, please consider this my formal apology. I know not what I do.

Of course, after leaving Mr. Bunny, Levi suddenly fell back in love with him and wanted to go back to see him. There was no way I was treading those waters again. And I'm sure Mr. Bunny has banned the crazy redhead who pets him and her screaming child who won't go near him for the rest of our lives.

What. A. Day.

Later at lunch, I noticed one of Levi's chicken tenders. And wouldn't you know, it looked like our frienemy, Mr. Bunny.

We ended the afternoon by picking up a few extra goodies for Levi's Easter Basket, of course, a Bunny Potato Head.

We had to keep up the theme of the day, folks.

This day is one for the story books of our lives.

Tomorrow we will take a look at a much more calm story in our preparation for Easter with Weebie. This one involves the entire reason we celebrate this season. I'm excited to share! {We reiterate that the bunny is all for fun, that "JEE-ZUS" (Jesus) is what we celebrate. He is as aware as he can be at this age of His Resurrection. And I'll show you how/why he knows tomorrow.}

  1. That story is TOO funny. I was laughing out loud! I'm so glad you share these hilarious little moments in addition to the sweet, adorable ones!

I'm sure you were petting the bunny the way you might pet an animal to show Levi it's OK. Like... "See? The bunny isn't going to hurt you." You forgot there was a person in there because you were SO good at it!

  2. OMG! Bahahahahaha I am totally cracking up over here. I hope the bunny man was creeped out and didn't enjoy it! Ha! :-)

  3. I agree with the above poster, you were in "mommy" mode, trying to keep your baby from being scared!! I mean, that's what we do with dogs right? "Look, it's not dangerous....you can pet it" :D hahaha.

And if it helps your Hubby be less embarrassed, I am certain you a) aren't the only person to ever do that and b) that would not be the worst part of that job. You are probably barely a blip in the bunnies memory, if at all.

  12. hahahah, classic first Easter pic, don't worry. I still have one with me and my sis sobbing in the pic--why would the photographer snap that? And why did my mom buy it? Ah, good times.
I wonder what bunny-man thought of your leg rub down though? That is probably an even funnier story!

  15. Oh my goodness, that is too funny. Sounds like something I would do. We don't do the Easter Bunny, and I'm kind of glad we don't. I'm afraid Andrew might feel the same way.

  16. Um, that is hilarious that you were petting the bunny. Ha! Love it.

  17. This is so funny! What a day!! We have yet to take the kiddos to see the Easter Bunny, but maybe now we'll wait another year!

Have you ever done "Resurrection Eggs"? Cheesiness aside, they're actually a pretty tangible way to tie the commercialized idea of Easter with its real meaning. We always did those first and then ran outside for the great egg hunt. :) I was going to blog about them, but Blogger hates me right now and isn't letting me publish posts. Sweet! ;)

  18. Poor thing. My daughter does the same with the Merry-go-Round near us, she begs for it, we take her, she cries, then as soon as we leave she asks to go back.

  19. So funny! My kids had a similair experience this week with Mr. Bunny. At least you got a good story out of it!

  22. Hahahaha I was cracking up! Maybe the Bunny liked it?

  23. LOL! This is the best story ever! I so wish that we could see the video! The petting probably only reinforced the "realness" for Weebie. Besides, Mr. Bunny probably deals with crazies (REAL ones, not you) all day anyway! :) (Still, hilarious.)

  24. Levi's portion of the story was cute. I was smiling and thinking of my little guy who was very hesitant of the Easter bunny. Then I got to your section of the story. Oh my goodness I was laughing so hard. You were petting that poor person's leg. That's kinda creepy actually. You might be on a list somewhere now :)

  25. How funny!!! I laughed too hard when I read this. When I was in high school one of my "boyfriends" got a weekend job being the Easter Bunny at a local mall. He sure did have stories to tell!! I'm glad yall got at least one use-able picture!
