The Quiet Hours.

When Levi was around 8 months old, he turned into a great little napper, and it got even better once he hit 1 year. I know that each day, if we are home and doing the normal routine, that he will sleep for at least 2 hours. Sometimes three! (And that is when I run in there and wake him up because I miss my little sidekick.)

His nap time entails completely different things for me each day. Some days, I save a "big chore" like cleaning out/organizing a closet for nap time because I know I will be able to start and finish it uninterrupted. Other days, I chat on the phone, bust out a few blog posts or take a long shower for some "me" time. Sometimes I take this time for my Bible study. Other times I speed clean and try to get as many things done as quickly as possible. I often prep supper or bake something sweet. I sometimes work out, check the mail, meal plan or sit down to Guy Fieri on the Food Network.

Levi's nap time is not only a time of refreshment for my little love, but for his Momma as well.

What do you do during nap time?

(Notice what time I wrote this post. Guess what I did during nap time today?) :)
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I don't have children yet but I've heard so many mothers say that it's such a treasured time for them, lol. I guess I'll find out for myself in the next couple of years :)

  2. Unfortunately,I tend to waste Jack's naptime. I watch some Hulu, read some blogs, and maybe do some blog posts. Today, I spent over an hour figuring out how to change my Facebook profile. A wise friend once told me to make sure I clean while my son's awake so he doesn't think it just magically happens. I cling to that wholeheartedly!! :)

  3. I usually do some cleaning or workout. Sometimes, I mop the floor when she's napping. Heck, sometimes I nap myself:)

  4. I do a lot of very similar things during Tommy's nap time. Either by having some me time by relaxing or reading, or I try to get something done like clean or bake or prepare a meal or iron. I definitely make the most out of that time though since it seems to go by pretty quickly. I love playing with him all day, but I look forward to those two hours of me time too every day!

  5. Yeah, some (rare) days I'm virtuous and do laundry and the like, but many day I catch up on the tv shows my husband doesn't want to watch and I don't want my son to. Or I go upstairs and edit photos. The hard thing with my nineteen month old Ezra is that his nap length varies from day to day. Sometimes it's an hour, others two. So I try to stuff things in before he wakes up!

  6. When My kids were little I would use their naptime to try and do whatever little task needed done. Usually it was laundry or getting dinner ready. Sometimes I might nap with them and cuddle. Now that they are teenagers I miss those naps we used to take together and the cuddling.

  7. Naptimes are only 1 hour for us :( but my daughter sleeps in until 9 in the morning, so I don't really mind. Our house is small so I can't do much because it makes too much noise and wakes her up so I usually watch The View or Oprah during naptimes. Such a mom thing to do right? Hehe.

  8. I love naptime! I am BLESSED with a 17 month old who still takes 2 naps a day most of the time. I work from home and I try to get all of my work done while she is aleep. And sometimes I take a nap, too =)

  9. I'm so jealous. I'm lucky if my son naps (he's 20 months). He is a bear and if he goes down for a nap it's usually an hour. Ugh!

  10. Normally I try to strike a balance between getting things done (cleaning, ironing, cooking/baking, etc.) and getting some 'down time' with a book or the computer. At the moment, however, I'm too exhausted to do anything productive during my little one's naptime because she is sleeping very badly at night at the moment. I am so grateful for some quiet time in the day that I just collapse and do very little! Bad me!

  11. Wow!!! I feel so much better reading all of these comments. I want SO badly for Case's nap time to be when I dive into my Bible but more often than not I end up wasting this time reading blogs, facebooking, emailing or some other thing that should clearly come secondary to my devotional time. I also have high hopes to use this time to work but that rarely happens either:-( So for all you Christians, when do you find devotional time? I SO want to figure this out and become better at it!

  12. Most of the time I nap too! I'm a total night owl, never really going to bed before midnight or 1, and get most cleaning, organizing, blogging down with my daughter goes to bed. So I like to just rest when she does. That and with baby #2 on the way I know this will be my last time to nap!!

  13. My children are 5, 3, and 1. My 5 yr old goes to school only in the morning, so I use afternoon nap time as our time to practice his music lessons and reading. When we are finished he has a little quiet time, and then I either have a rest myself (I am expecting #4) or work fast and get A LOT more accomplished than when I am have all the "help" and interruptions, and then when they do get up, I don't feel like I have a million things to do, but I can spend time with them instead!

  14. Sounds like some great "me" time you manage to have. It makes you an even better Mama for him when he wakes up! It's also nice that you allow yourself to do different things during your time and not always feel forced into doing chores!

  15. I nap! Since I work the night shift nap time is my middle of the night and its crucial I nap when Audrey naps. Even on my days off I try to play catch up on my sleep. I am always tired so nap time for me is a time to catch up on some zzzzz's. :) I curl up on my comfy couch and set my alarm on my phone so I won't miss my older one's getting off of the bus.

  18. I still follow the advice you get with newborns- "sleep when they sleep!" I don't always get an actual nap (especially since Noah doesn't nap anymore) but I do at least lay on the couch with a magazine or book or something. We'll see how those afternoons go when I'm finally not pregnant anymore. Maybe I'll have the energy to tackle stuff...or maybe I'll hold on to the rest forever... :)

  19. Tucker naps for almost an hour and a half right now, so some days I take a shower :), some naps I prepare dinner, eat lunch, clean and prepare bottles, blog, or make stuff!!!

  20. What is this thing you speak of "nap"?? My 3 year old stopped cold turkey right when she turned 2. I was robbed! :)

  21. Just like you, my naptime activities vary from day to day. Sometimes cleaning like a madwoman, other times catching up on some reading or blogging.

Here's what I've done today during Dylan's 3 hour nap:
-showered and got ready for my day
-put a coat of white paint on my closet doors
-prepared a talk I will be sharing in church on Sunday
    -made my grocery list
    -straightened up around the house
    -posted a blog or two
    -made myself some lunch

  22. Like you, it varies. Today was exercise, shower and reading. I love nap times!!!!!!!

  23. My daughter is past her nap time but when she did nap I spent nap time either getting cleaning done that I hadn't found time for before or to read. Now when she goes to bed before mommy I use that time to catch up on blogs, write a blog, read or crochet, or some combination. My goal is always to have the cleaning done and time to play before my daughter slips off to dreamland.

  24. If I am blessed with a free hour or two during the day (all three kids asleep- yes!!!) I almost never do chores. I choose instead to do something I enjoy, such as read my book, hulu, read blogs, etc. Since the rest of the day is spent doing chores and such, I take full advantage of nap time to chill out. Oh how I wished I had enjoyed the guaranteed nap time break when I had just two!

  25. I'm just getting in to a naptime routine. My little one is 6 months old and from the womb she was a sleeper...so she would just put herself to sleep every 2 hours. It was awesome. But it stopped working for her at about 5ish months and then it took me about 2 weeks to admit that I had to surrender to a routine. We're getting the hang of it now, and her afternoon naps sometimes go up to 3 hours. To answer your question though, I do almost the same as you...work around the house, work on my blog, read other blogs, find something for lunch...whatever strikes my fancy.
