The Unsuccessful Bandit.

Meet Leisel.

She is my parent's "guard" dog. And I use the term loosely.

She is cute, playful, and full of spunk and life. But mean and intimidating? She is not.

We have joked since the day they got her that she was a little "slow". She is such a sweet dog, but she doesn't quite know what's going on half of the time. They blamed it on her being a puppy for the longest time. But now - well...she's definitely out of that stage. She's a full fledged adult.

A lot of houses on my parent's road have been broken into lately, and some strange things have been happening at their house as well. Some very weird and unexplainable things. It kind of freaks me out.

While we were home over the break, my Dad was outside grilling and noticed THIS - the back door to the house.

AHHH! Someone took a crow bar to the door, but failed to pop it open. Praise God!

Being the good detective that I am, I grabbed my camera and documented the crime scene.

It looks here like they took a large wrench and tried to rip the knob off. What meanies!

In the midst of all the analyzation of the burglars motives and actions, I couldn't help but wonder what Leisel, the guard dog, must have been doing the entire time she watched it take place.

She probably scratched her ears and tried to play games. Not a care in the world.

And she probably licked her chops and asked the robber to please throw her a steak out of the ice box if he was successful in his devious task.

Or...she cozied up to the burglar on the leather couch like she did with my Dad in this picture. (Yes, there are 2 leather couches on their patio for the time being because they recently got new furniture...ha!)

There is no telling what actually went on, but all we do know, is that there was not one single bark that erupted from the vocal chords of our sweet Leisel during the time of trouble. Bad girl.

Very bad girl.
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. She is too cute. But scary about the attempted break in! We have a dog who is also not a guard dog at all. He will lick anyone to death before he would bite them. But, robbers don't know that!

  2. Stoopid people trying to break in! Glad they didn't succeed!

    Sweet "guard" dog. heehee

My dog, while he rarely barks, has made me wonder what he would actually do if us or the house were in trouble. I *think* he would protect us since he gave a growl and bark to the camping neighbors that were being loud in the middle of the night (their kid had puked. they were cleaning it up with a shop-vac...at 3am!).

  5. Some people have no shame and will try everything to get in.

  6. We had a german shepard once (had to put her to sleep 2 years ago). She LOOKED mean and barked mean but she was the biggest baby ever! We always joked the same thing, that she would just want a burglar to pet her and she would gladly let them into the house! haha

Glad no one actually broke in - how freaky though!

  7. Wow, scary stuff! You would think that just having a German Shepard would deter them.

  8. She's adorable! How scary!! I'll be praying that their house stays safe!

  9. She is a beautiful dog! How scary about the break-ins, though! Yikes! Do your parents live out in the country? Mine do and someone stole my Dad's truck right off of their property. It scares me that they're out there sometimes!!

  10. How SCARY!

Leisel is too cute though!!!!! Sounds like she's a little TOO sweet ;)

My girls bark at any noise, but they would likely just lick someone to death!

  11. Your pics are great! Did you use your new camera? I think so. Now, as for Leisel, she needs to keep her day job. I'll be praying for safety and protection over your parents and their home.

  12. That's so much like our lab! She's big and floppy and doesn't bark at anything (except when her food bowl is empty). I just know that if someone were to break into our house - God forbid - Molly would greet them at the door, tail wagging.

    So much for being territorial.

  13. How scary! I love that there is a couch on the back porch and not just an old beat up couch, but a nice leather one. Its cracking me up!

  17. Wow, that's kind of creepy that you found evidence of a possible break in! Good thing they stunk at it though!

  18. Wow that is scary!! I am so glad it was unsuccessful!

  19. maybe she surprised you and barked ferociously, but doesn't want to give up her cover as big bad guard dog while the family is around! what a cute doggie!

  20. Ooh that would completely freak me out! I don't think I'd have much luck sleeping until I got an alarm system installed.
My 4lb teacup poodle totally thinks she's a huge German Shepherd. Poor thing will growl and bark incessantly if she hears any noises at night! I guess she's my little alarm system :)

  21. wow! that's very scary. well, not all dogs have a calling in life to be a guard dog...and that's definitley true for Fez as well!

  22. What a cute and sweet dog! The attempted break-in is very scary though. I hope they catch the people trying to do that.

  23. I hope they have an alarm system! Those guys will likely try to come back!

  24. Awww, what a cutie though! Maybe dumb, but cute none the less. She reminds me of my Mastiff, everyone was afraid of him because he was so big! But he was the sweetest guy ever and wouldn't hurt a fly!

That is so scary about your parent's house! We don't even lock are doors at night let alone when we aren't home! Maybe we should reconsider!?!

  25. wow - that is pretty scary...good thing they were unsuccessful.

She is a beauty - love the big gentle giants. They are adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh no! That is kind of scary but the dog not doing anything is kind of funny. :) She is a cute dog!

  27. 1) I'm so sorry to hear your parents and their neighbors are having such troubles.

    2) You somehow managed to capture the dog in her true glory. Well done.

    3) Why didn't the robbers just take the nice leather couch? :D

    I should be a robber...I'm pretty smart :D jk

  28. I just found your blog recently and died laughing at this post!! I also have a "slow" dog that would probably just watch (maybe lick!) if someone broke in our house! Thank goodness for my other two who's bark is big enough (even if they aren't!!) to convince anyone to go away!! But are they really supposed to be guard dogs?! I don't think they think so!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ok, FREAKY! That's not cool. German Shepherds are fabulous, but the whole trying to break in, that's not cool at all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Goodness! That is one of my biggest fears is getting broken into---yeesh. She looks like a sweetie though!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you DIDN'T get broken into. Scary stuff!

  32. What a beautiful dog!
That is terribly scary about the door. I'm not sure if I'd be able to sleep after finding evidence of someone trying to break in to our home! I hope they catch whoever it is!

    ReplyDelete
  33. She is so sweet! Just looking at her though would make me walk the other way...sandy toe
    p.s. unless I knew her!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Awe, what a sweet dog. I mean, bad dog. Very bad Dog!

  35. Glad they didn't manage to get in. I have issues with German Shepards though...I got bit on the face by one when I was little....

  36. That's so scary! I'm glad your parents are okay. Maybe she didn't bark because she was growling at them :)
