Things I Learned Last Week.

After being snowed in and bound to the house for the majority of the week, I made several realizations about life.

* The Cosby Show is arguably one of the greater shows ever produced.

* Playing in and walking through the snow is crazy good exercise.

* Family time is invaluable.

* Snow ice-cream is delicious. And super fattening when you use sweetened condensed milk. Oops.

* After a week of subzero temps, 30 degrees truly feels spring-like.

* Masterpiece Theatre is fantastic television.

* The world would be a better place if we all adapted a "small town" frame of mind and helped each other out in crisis instead of looking out for number one.

* Loungewear becomes uncomfortable after so many days. Jeans feel amazing when you haven't had them on in awhile.

* Makeup and hair rollers make you feel like a million bucks.

* Routine is good for regular life. But in a snow storm when real life is out the window, lunch is anywhere between 12 - 2pm, a nap is thrown in somewhere after, and supper often makes it's appearance around 8pm.

* Fires prove to be the coziest, most soothing little morale booster.

* Everything is an adventure when there is snow on the ground.

* It feels so much better to lay down at night wen you've actually DONE SOMETHING that day.

* There is such a thing as too much rest. See above.

* It's important to support the locals either during or after a storm of this magnitude. They've likely lost a lot of money while being closed! (I learned this from a small burger joint we dined in after an emergency doctor's appointment for Levi during the storm! Bless their hearts - glad we chose to eat there rather than Burger King!)

* My child would stay in the snow for 8 hours if I let him.

* Stores should have a "secret sled stash" for times like these. We searched a dozen stores and every place was sold out. We finally found an inflatable "baby sled" at a children's shop that ended up working great.

* My husband is the best little ice driver in all the land. And the cutest, too.

What a great week. I'll forever remember the Oklahoma Blizzard of 2011.
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. The thing I love about snow storms is how it forces my family to pause our busy lives and spend some time together at home:)

  2. I'm so glad you mentioned about supporting local businesses! As a small business owner, it is frustrating when I have to close down for snow. I get it of course, but my bottom line does not. :) The Lord provides kind and caring people like you though! :)

  3. I agree about supporting local businesses. While so many wondered and worried about the road conditions in order to get to Wal Mart, I was happy to shop at the local grocer and so appreciated their hard work. I just wish people would remember that it is not the stocker or the clerk's fault that the milk truck couldn't get there! Ease up people.

  4. So funny you mention the Cosby's. My husband says he will get a little of his fathering advice from Cliff. How funny! Sounds like you had a great week!

  5. I definitely understand what you mean about having too much rest! When I don't HAVE to be on a routine, I get lax and then my whole world is thrown off! I love a good break, but there is definitely the possibility of having too much of a good thing!

I have to admit, though, that I'm a little jealous. No snow days in Arizona! Just really cold temperatures (for us, anyways!).
