With (my) Love, Philadelphia XOXO

Philly-12

Husby and I headed out to Philly last week for a test that he had to take for Medical School. (The last test until Residency! Yay!) We had a great time and crammed all that we could into the time that we had there. We really only had one full day together to explore (we had an entire other day, but Husby was in his test for the majority of that day, so I was on my own). So, Sunday was our full entire day to see the city and explore.

And guess what I did?

I stepped off a curb to cross the street and I bit the dust. I didn't realize there was sand on the streets (we were next to a construction zone), and I crashed. My ankle twisted to the right AND the left and I was positive I broke it. I screamed and caused quite a little scene. The passerby's were such sweeties! I wasn't in the condition to thank them for their help offerings, what, with the screaming, crying and mascara pouring down my face - if you're reading this, thank you for your concern and help. :)

Husby basically carried me back to the sidewalk where he examined my ankle (perks of having a doctor husby) and demanded we go to the hospital.

"NO!" I refused.

See, we were on our way to a tour bus (that was waiting across the street when I made the fateful crash) and I refused to spend our only entire free day sitting in a hospital.

I jumped on one leg across the street, hopped up the steps to the tour bus, planted myself in the seat, freshened up my makeup and refused to leave. I was going to see the city, by golly.

When we made a stop for lunch, I realized my ankle was much much worse. I couldn't walk. Husby sat me on some steps and told me to sit still - he was going to find me some crutches.

Ugh.

To make a long story short, I received more stares than I ever had in my life, made a fool out of myself with the crutches (those things are hard to wrangle) and did my best to plaster a smile to my face. Because we were on vacation.

The boot that Husby hooked me up with was my life saver and made the rest of the trip totally doable. And we had a wonderful time.

Here are some pictures of the trip!

I packed several pairs of cute boots that I never got to wear. I was so thankful for my Toms that allowed me to wear my brace.

An adorable little play date at a park that I sat and spied on for a while. It was precious.

We ate at a hip little Mexican restaurant that had a photo booth inside. So fun!

Though our circumstances were certainly not ideal, we had a fantastic time being together and exploring a new city. Sprained ankle and all!

  1. OH MY GOSH! Your ankle looks soooo ouch! No other words. So convenient to have someone who knows what to do with you! I'm always terrified something is going to happen to someone and they will expect me to do something and I'll just stare and have no idea. Haha! Welcome back home!

  13. Ouch! Your poor ankle!

My mom hurt her back in San Fran a few years ago while my parents were there for a medical meeting, and she insisted that she would ride around in a wheel chair before she would give up the opportunity to shop in San Fran! ha! Good thing for her, my dad is a ortho and they were at a meeting full of them. They got her well enough to continue her shopping spree! :)

  19. So fun that you got to go to Philly, but what terrible luck with your ankle! If there was ever a time that it would be convenient to have a doctor for a husband, that was the time! Hope that you're feeling better!
