I Should'a Been a Cowgirl

I live smack dab in the middle of Cowboy Country. I went to school with both Cowboys and Indians. No, really. Literally. People always think I'm making that up, but I couldn't be more serious. There were even Indian Cowboys if you can imagine that. Oh, Small Town USA, you never fail to surprise me.

I grew up on country music. My very first CD was Alabama (My second CD was Billy Joel. I was a weird kid with a vast array of musical interests.) and my first concert was Tracey Lawrence and George Jones (My second concert was Steely Dan. See what I mean?). I remember that concert was filled with more cowboy hats, spurs and boots than I'd ever been around. Well, with the exception of at our hometown football games.

I used to choreograph dances to Vince Gill songs and make my friends learn them. I took it so seriously! I was strict when those girls messed up! "Let's do it again! From the top!" You'd think I was training them to be a Rockette. The funny thing is, they took it just as serious as me!

If you don't believe that I live in Cowboy Country, this may convince you. I once sat in Church with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Yup, you better believe I didn't hear a THING that preacher said because my eyes were glued to Garth. Husby and I were new to this particular area and were trying out new churches. It was rumored that Garth occasionally went there, and the few times that we visited happened to be one of the times that Garth attended. I was starstruck.

Speaking of Garth, I can sing exactly like him. And when one of his songs come on, I can't NOT sing like him. It's the strangest thing.

My main man Tim McGraw is coming to concert soon and it is sold out. It is my sole mission in life (this month) to obtain tickets. If any of you have tickets to this upcoming concert and want to so generously send them my way, by all means, go ahead. I'll give you a hundred kisses.

(They may or may not be of the Hershey variety.)

Country folk have always been a part of my life and I love it. They seem to have such a good grasp on life - working hard tending cattle and coming home to kiss their biscuit makin' wives, remembering their roots and staying loyal to their little towns, providing for their family and living off the land that God provided for them.

Cowboys are great people.

I should have been one.

This was the closest I ever got (on my way to a friends cowgirl rehearsal dinner). And never mind the fact that my boots were BCBG. They were still cowgirl in my eyes.
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  4. Love this post! The first concert I ever attended was Alabama. Their Christmas album is still one of my favorites. It takes me back to my childhood every year when I listen to it.

  6. Growing up I was never much into country music (like at all), but something changed around the time I graduated college/got married, and now I LOVE it. They're just awesome down-to-earth, do-anything-for-anyone kinda people, and it's awesome :) And they can sing! And they're (mostly) good clean family-friendly songs. Love it. and your outfit is super cute!! :)

  8. Even though I grew up in Oklahoma I didn't listen to country music until I was in college. Isn't that crazy?!?!

  14. You're totally a cowgirl. For sure.

I love country music, live on a farm, know how to drive a tractor, but I'm not really a cowgirl. Horses are a pain in the butt.

I really want a ticket to the George and Reba concert. It would be so amazing.
