The Answers: Part II

13. When did you know that you were ready to have kids?

Having a baby wasn't something we wanted to do on a whim and not something we took lightly. We prayed about timing and wisdom and continue to do so with our future child(ren). We wanted to be married for at LEAST three years before we had children just so we could have that time together to have fun, do what we wanted, be carefree and enjoy each other. We began seriously talking about "when's" after two and a half years of marriage and decided to start trying the next year. We got pregnant two months after our third anniversary and celebrated our fourth a month after Levi was born. It was perfect timing.

14. Do you ever think you will go back to work? Do you miss working?

I don't ever want to GO back to work, but I would love to do some writing and things along that line from home. I do not miss working (out of the home) a single bit. This is the job that I was cut out for. Hands down.

15. What is your favorite thing to cook/bake?

My favorite thing to cook is…hmmm….I don't really know. I just like to cook in general, so I don't think I have a favorite.
My favorite thing to bake is cookies. I'm not good at cakes and such because I can't spread icing to save my life. But I do love a good pie...

16. If you could have any visitor/guest (that you don't know) who would you like to host and why?

Toughie! Hmmm. I would love to host Paula Deen. First of all, I would be a nervous wreck to cook for her, but I think she would be super encouraging and tell me it was all really good. And I'd love to get her in there to give me a few good tips. I think she would be a super fun guest because she's just funny and upbeat. Love her! I'm sure I'd be laughing all night. But if I was really given this opportunity, I'm not really sure who I would pick. I'd have to think about it long and hard. :)

17. Have you ever cussed in your life or done anything that you would normally wrinkle your nose at the thought?

What a funny question!

I have never willingly (as in knew what I was saying) cussed. I'm just not a cusser and I find no use for it. It's not lady like. Crud and Cruddie is my choice of word when I stub my toe! :)

Of course I have done things that I would now wrinkle my nose at! I'm sure I do things on a weekly basis that lots of people would wrinkle their noses at. I am human and I make mistakes. I sin. Just because I don't do the "big" things that people see as "bad", doesn't mean that I don't mess up all the time with things that are just as disappointing to God as "the big things". It's a constant effort and a daily struggle to walk in a manner worthy of pleasing the Lord. And I'm far from walking perfectly.

18. How long does it take you to get ready in the mornings and do you 'get ready' everyday?

It takes me about 45 minutes - shower to makeup to fixing hair and getting dressed - start to finish to get ready. No, I don't "get ready" full out every single day. I do try and throw on jeans and a t-shirt, pull my hair in a pony tail and throw on some mascara and lipstick to be "kind of" ready. It makes me more productive. Weird, but so true!

19. Do you set an alarm or get up when you feel like it &/or Levi wakes you?

It depends on what I have going on that day. I set my alarm if there is somewhere we need to be at a certain time in the morning, but if we are just staying home all day, I let Levi be my alarm clock. But don't kid yourself. He rarely sleeps past 8:30! Momma needs all the sleep she can get to keep up with a crawler!

20. If you have another boy, are you going to have another to just see if you can have a girl or stop...?

Hmmmmm. I don't know! I would love to have both genders, but this is one of those questions that we'll just have to wait and see about, because all I know right now is life with one baby. It's easy to say, "I may want 3 or 4!" right now, but when #2 comes along I may be a basketcase with no hair left on my head and decide that two is enough! :) We will see.

21. I would LOVE to see pictures of your nephew's nursery that you surprised your brother and sister-in-law with........no doubt it is adorable beyond words!

I will show pictures as soon as my brother sends me his. I have some, but his are more detailed, so I'm just waiting!

22. Do you ever think about "What if my kids don't think I am as great as I think MY mom is?" That's one I think about all the time. I think my mom was the greatest in the world and loved her so dearly and never wanted to disappoint her or hurt her. I feel like I fall so short of what she was to me.

Honestly, this is something I've never thought about. I just try and do the best I can and pray that I can have the same type of relationship with my children that I have with my own parents. Of course I hope that my children think I am a good mom, but I don't want to dwell on trying to "live up" to anything, you know? As long as I am instilling Truth in my children, loving them and displaying that affection, praying for them and their futures and decisions, and letting them know that they are important and cared about, I don't think I have to worry about what they think about me compared to what I think about my Mom. I just strive to be the best I can.

23. What is the one baby gift Levi received that he will still want to have as an adult?

What a tough question! I'm not sure. Levi has received many special gifts in his little life, and to try and guess which one will be most special to him as an adult is near impossible! I'm sure he will treasure the toy chest his Poppy made for him and the fantastic book collection his other grandparents started for him.

24. What is your guilty pleasure? Do you have any "bad" habits?

My guilty pleasure: No Bake Cookies and US Magazine! :)

I have a bad habit of crunching ice. I know it's not good for my teeth, but I just love doing it! (This is probably why I have to wear a mouth guard to sleep. My teeth grinding is probably a result of crunching ice. AHH!)

25. And random, but do you ever dream about fellow bloggers?

Yes! It's the WEIRDEST thing! I never know who is going to pop up in my dreams and sometimes it's people I rarely read! So funny.

26. I just want to know how you afford make guests feel so welcome! I love all the ways you and your mom accommodate your guests but being a stay at home mom I know things like that can get pricey. How do you do it!

I dedicated a whole post to this a few months ago! Click HERE to read it! :)

27. Do you live in a house, apartment, or townhouse? And do you own or rent?
(I ask because I'm living in a rental right now and have this urge to decorate, but nothing can be permanent (no paint, holes in the walls, etc) so I wanted to see if you have that problem, too, and if so what you do to make it more homey.)

We live in a house and we own it. We lived in an apartment for two years and while I was frustrated with not being able to paint, I went out of my way to try and make that tiny little place feel like home. Here's a picture!

28. My question is how did you set up your blog to make $$ and is it working out for you?

I started out with google ads. I made about $500 over the span of a year with that. Not a ton, but hey, it was $500 I wouldn't have had! I recently applied and was accepted for BlogHer Ads and am making significantly more with these than with google (though I am hosting both ads still). It's a great way to contribute financially and I hope to just keep growing and growing! :)

Phew, Okay...I'll finish out the questions tomorrow! :)
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.
