If you're like me, you love the warm and soothing tastes of Autumn. There is nothing quite like a delicious treat hot from the oven to warm your body and soul.
Yum.
Even though our apple picking day was a bust, we managed to grab half a bushel of crisp, juicy apples to take home with us. What better to do with the fabulous fruit than to make some apple dumplings!
Pardon me, I forgot to take pictures of my step-by-step instructions because while I was making them, I was in quite a hurry. But I did not forget to take a picture of them hot and ready to eat!

Mmmmm. These are pretty enormous because it is a whole apple, so you might want to split one with your honey. Oh, what am I saying? EAT A WHOLE ONE!
Want the recipe?

Apple Dumplings!
Peel, core and thinly slice 6 apples. It's much easier if you have an apple peeler corer slicer. I do not have one, but I borrowed one and it made my like 182 times easier.
Crust:
3 C. Flour
1 C. Shortening
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 C. Cold Water
Sauce: (OH the sauce - it's incredible, so be forewarned)
4 C. Water
2 C. Sugar
1 Stick Oleo
Cinnamon (It didn't say how much, but I just added until my sauce was a pretty brown color)
Mix dough and divide in equal small parts made into 6 7-inch circles. Place thinly sliced apples, sprinkle of cinnamon, pat of butter and 1 tablespoon sugar in each. Wrap the dough around the apple and turn upside down into greased baking dish. Bring sauce contents to boil. Cook 1 minute. Pour over dumplings and bake 60 minutes at 400 degrees.
I serve with vanilla bean ice cream because....well....everything is better with ice cream!
Hope you enjoy this delightful Fall treat! I know we did in our household! :)
