Max Update.

Maxwell is continuing to do very well. His heart issues are few and far between now. Tuesday, he was having them all day (where his heart rate would drop rapidly and they had to stimulate him to get it back up), but they put him on some meds and changed some of his tubes and he has done drastically better since.

He now weighs in at 2 lb. 7.5 oz, so he is gaining weight!

Your prayers are so very appreciated. He continues to thrive and stun everyone. The nurses are just blown away at how good he is doing. It truly is a blessing, and we are very aware of God's hand in this situation. Continue lifting him up, friends. Before we know it, he will be big, healthy and ready to come home. Until then....please pray for him.

Specifically, pray that he would have zero eye problems (lots of preemies born this early can go partially or fully blind, while others have perfectly fine vision). Also, pray that he continues to steer clear of the dropping heart rate issues. Thank you!!

I'll keep you updated as things change.

  1. Thanks for the update. I got to talk to Hollie today and it was so good to hear her voice. I can't wait to go to the city to see them.

  3. Whitney I always look forward to baby Max updates! Thank you. My husband and I are continuing our prayers. Don't you love it when health care workers are blown away by how good a patient is doing, and it's all from God? As a healthcare worker myself, I especially love it :)

  6. Continuing to pray for sweet Max! Just fyi, a lot of the eye problems that preemies have come from the high concentrations of oxygen that they require. Max isn't even intubated at this point... I'm not sure what they've got his cannula set at, but unless he has a major setback and requires a lot, he's at low risk for the eye problems. It's called Retinopathy of Prematurity.

I don't want this to sound negative or anything, but I know you like to pray specifically. I would specifically pray for things NOT to happen as well ... such as his head would continue to be normal, his belly will continue to digest food like it's supposed to, and that he doesn't get an infection. Those are the three major risk factors preemies have.

He's precious! I hope he continues to amaze everybody!

  7. This is awesome news! My daughter was born 2lbs and dropped down to 1 lb 6 oz. This was 20 years ago and she never has had a problem because of it. She was just born early and then had to grow! I remember the Dr.'s telling us about the eye problems and she never did have any, we are so Thankful ! I do believe in prayer and everything that it does, my daughter is a Miracle and Max is too! Keep on believing !! Stephanie

Thanks for the updates too :)

  12. I just happened to stumble upon your blog.

My son was born June 12th, 2009, but he wasn't due until August 12th, 2009. He weighed 3 lbs, 5 ozs.

He spent 33 days in the NICU. He still has bradycardias (heart rate dips), but he's growing out of them.

He is almost 4 months old now, and weighs 13 lbs!

I understand what your family is feeling, but tell them, babies are strong and before they know it, their son will be home with them and keeping them up all night long. Children are blessings and I love my son more than anything in this world. He's a big boy now with a double chin, chubby legs and arms..

They'll welcome home the same thing as me. Just keep praying and believing that that little guy is going to be ok.

--Said from someone who has been there before, almost 4 months ago.

If you'd like to contact me. I can send you pictures of my son when he was first born, and of him now. If you think that would help your family. jlynnek@gmail.com is my e-mail.

    Take care.
