Baby Fest

Saturday, Mom and I went to the annual "Baby Fest" in my city. Let's face the facts, we are obsessed with all-things-baby at the moment and this event lured us in at it's mere name. Baby Fest. I was looking forward to the new and innovative products, browsing through vast amounts of handsome boy clothes/shoes and taking note on this season's baby must-haves.

My hopes were too high.

There wasn't anything there that I haven't seen before.

And boy stuff? That must be a joke. We walked into a room of pink and frills while the boy stuff was few and far between. Baby boys get the shaft and it's not nice.

Mom and I had a good time perusing the aisles of the convention center, grabbing free stuff left and right. I never pretended to be interested in so many things, all for the sake of a freebie. I am now a proud owner of a cheerios container, a first aid kit, a cough syrup measuring spoon and countless other useless items. But hey, they were free.

We left Baby Fest and headed out for our next quest: getting paint for the nursery and buying a carseat/stoller.

Oh. My. Word.

I never thought I could be so in love with a travel system. Oh gracious sakes alive - I've never seen anything like it! I was registered for one at Babies R Us, but Mom said she found one that she would rather Levi ride around in and as soon as she showed it to me, I was smitten. When I get it in (the lady had to order the color I wanted), I will do a post showing the wonder of it. You will want one even if you don't have babies!

And THAT was the type of thing I was hoping to find at Baby Fest!

What type of stroller/carseat did you use and how did it work for you?
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I have the Peg Perego Uno system and absolutely loved it. There are a lot of neat travel systems. The travel system is a must when you have the infant seat...once you switch to the convertible car seat I suggest a nice small and easily portable stroller (I like my Maclaren). Buying all the baby stuff is so fun!

  2. I had the Combi car seat and travel system in Kiwi. I really loved it because it was light weight and didn't feel like a tank. However, 2 years later, the stroller is pretty wobbly. When baby number 2 came, I used the same infant car seat but we got a Combi double side-by-side and I really love it.

Now I'm in the market for a good jogging stroller.

  3. I have three kids close in age. We have a Graco double stroller and a Phil and Teds that is single but can be made into a double when you snap a seat into the back (it is hard to explain, you have to see it). I like them for different reasons. The Graco has lots of storage space but is a little bulky while the Phil and Teds is a lot easier to manuver (we took it to San Fransisco and it was awesome on the street) but there is not a lot of storage when the second seat is added.

  4. Oh my goodness, don't even get me started on the lack of baby boy items. When Ashley was pregnant with Maddox, I was appalled at the aisles and aisles of frills, while the boy apparel was shoved in a corner. It's ridiculous! Don't they know that mommies are the ones who pick boy's clothes? Therefore, mommies need some choices. Can't wait to see the travel system!

  5. Phil and Ted sport buggy. Its great. Plus the attachment for two to ride is great for when you have two kids. Its easy to manuver through malls and tough enough for off road walks. Its GREAT. . .(its our third stroller and the best)

  6. I cant wait to find out what baby stroller you got.. I will need lots of suggestions.. have you registered yet?? I think I am going to be overwhelmed... I heard baby fest was a huge disappointment.. my mom wanted to go but my friends mom went and said everything was way picked over! bummer! yeah for free stuff tho!

  7. I totally agree with you that baby boys don't get near the attention with all the cute stuff like girls do. It is frustrating! I have two boys and it is now better than it was 5 years ago since I was able to find some cute things for our son who was born last June.

  8. We registered for the Chicco travel system at Babies R Us - mostly because we're buying all the baby furniture on our own and can't afford to buy the travel system, too, so we didn't really shop around. So hopefully someone will purchase it for us :)

  9. I can't wait to see what travel system you got! I'm living out all my baby dreams through you (for the moment).

  10. I have the Graco Quattro system, and it was ok. Rather bulky, but once we bought a bigger car that was ok. Except that some stores (including baby stores!) don't leave enough room between their racks for a stroller that size. When summer came, we switched to an umbrella stroller. My husband hated the Graco because it is so big...now we're looking at double strollers. Yikes!

  11. I can never find cute stuff for my nephew...boys always get one or two racks and girls get one or two aisles. lol.

  12. Yes I agree, It doesn't matter where you go there are about 20 cute girly items for every one baby boy item. So sad!

  13. I am going to use the Graco Snugride 32 carseat and quattro travel system...mainly for the carseat. I have done tons of research and it's one of the safest ones out there. Babies are supposed to ride rear facing until 1 year old AND 20 lbs. Most one year olds are over 20 lbs so this car seat holds infants up to 32 lbs and 32 inches long. It also has the LATCH system and five point harness :)

  14. I had really nice strollers with each of my babies and then ended up using the umbrella stroller the most after about 6 months with each. I never did have a travel system kind where you use the seat in the car, yada yada. I am sorry that the Baby Fest was a bust.

  15. Chicco Key Fit carseat and Cortina stroller - gets top safety ratings and super easy to use.

I have to shop online for my little guy.

  16. Chicco KeyFit 30 (best on safety/consumer reports) with the BabyTrend stroller frame (you strap the car seat into the frame). I didn't bother with a travel system. Too big/bulky as I am more minimalist.

I completely agree, boys do get the shaft....you have to be ready to shop all the time in order to make sure he has good clothes, shoes, etc. But it sounds like Glamma will help in that catergory....lucky you!

  17. Peg Perego car seat, but I LOVE Chico, I think that's what it's called...

I just figure, they're boys...most guys I know like stuff that fits & is comfortable, not really a matter of being cutesy or stylish :-)

I like dressing Alex in clothes that are a little less cutesy, although we've been given lots of those type clothes, so he wears them. But as he gets older, I'll probably buy less of those type clothes.

  18. We started out with a travele system, but after about 7 months we went to just a really nice basic stroller. It wass o much easier without having all of the bulk. I liked the travel system when my daughter was a newborn, but as she grew, we wore her more or let her sit in the seat and had her out of the car seat as much as possible. I'm now preggo with number 2 and we'll be using only a basic stroller, slings and a front carrier.

  20. OH, and I use Bjorn Man Sideswipe Slingeroo 2.0 Deluxe Travel System to carry David around.

  21. Hey Whit: It sounds like a fun side job for you and your mom to begin to desire little boys clothes. You could make a million. Let me in on it somehow.heheh

If I ever have a baby that is.

  26. WHITNEY??!! No way! I am wasting my afternoon reading fun blogs (hehe) and after jumping from one to another, I see your interesting title. You can imagine my surprise when I click and find a pic of you and the "husby!" CONGRATS on your newest addition! Well, almost addition. :) Your blog is now in my favorites and I will be checking in on you from time to time!

  27. We have the Eddie Bauer Adventurer (I think). Of course, you already know that :). Josh and I found some super-cute travel systems at a boutique in Seattle (for lots of moola) but then noticed they had really crappy storage. So, The Eddie Bauer proved to be a good balance between cute and practical, so we like it! Can't wait to see yours!

  28. To this day, my boys still get the shaft. It's horrible. I mean, jeans & t-shirts. That's all I see. Every now and then I'll find some nice outfits. You either dress them up for special occasions or for everyday wear (jeans & tshirts). Can't a boy dress up nice in between? Aargh. And the selections you're offered -it's a joke. Sorry to vent, but it's true. BTW, If you're looking for some cute outfits for your little boy, check out the Wooden Soldier Boutique for kids online. They don't have a lot, but what they have, they are so cute! cute! cute! I'm undecided - that's what I want when I go shopping for my boys.

  29. We have the Chicco system, and LOVE it! The stroller folds so easily and it's such a smooth ride :)

It was the more expensive system we put on our registry and my grandparents surprised us by buying it for us...

  30. We registered for the ultra cute, ultra sleek Chicco travel system in gray and green. Its the number 1 item on my registry and I'm waiting to see if I get it at my shower before I plop down the money.

Which one did you get? Actually, can you post soon on all the baby equipment you are looking at? I'd love to know what is catching your eye at Babies R Us...

  31. I would recommend a WAGON all the way.

  32. I suggest you get the book Baby Bargains, if you don't already have it. It's great and helps you weed through all the baby stuff. It's kinda like a Consumer Reports for baby stuff. They rate products and tell you what's the safest and best according to their research as well as parents.
