I Changed My Mind.

My In-Laws got me tickets to see the American Idol concert the other night. I was hit and miss a lot last season on the TV show, but the concert was great. I was looking forward to hearing my David of choice (Archuletta) sing. He is just the sweetest little thing ever! He has a phenomenal voice. I also really like Brooke White.

During the TV season, I did not care for Jason Castro (dread lock boy) at all. I am not sure why, but he just irritated me for some reason. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to him; I kind of zoned out when he was on.

I had actually kind of forgotten about him by the time the concert rolled around, but let me tell you, when he took the stage, I was a brand new lady with a brand new way of thinking. I absolutely LOVE him!!

He was fantastic. Super! Superb! Excellent! Wonderful!

I was entranced while he sang.

Husby did not care for him. (Probably because I loved him so. He tends to hate the guy singers that I love. He should work on that.)

I immediately went home and googled him because I had to hear more. In my opinion, the concert should have been JUST HIM. I spent the rest of the evening listening to this over and over and over again.

This will just lull your pretty little head to sleep in no time. I promise.

Why did I not pay attention to him when I had the chance to watch him every week?

I also realized at the end of the concert, that the only 3 that I really like, are the 3 that played their own instruments - (Archuletta, Brooke White and Jason Castro) - The sign of a true musician if you ask me.

Oh, and David Cook played his own instrument. And then he bashed it on the stage and I was utterly humiliated for him. I mean, seriously...

Thank you, parents-in-law for a wonderful evening of live entertainment. I jump at any chance I can get to go to concerts of all sorts. I am a music junkie.

Were you a Castro fan? If not, then who?

  1. I can't believe you went to that concert! I would have loved to go! This last season I didn't miss a single episode. I was a huge Brook White fan and I also really liked David Cook. He's from where I grew up. I was a fan of castro too, but it just didn't seem like he was quite as interesting as the others. I did download 1 of his songs tho..hallelujah, you should check it out.

I love going to concerts too, I'm so jealous you got to see all of them!

  2. My husband and I are apparently the only two people in America that don't watch this show. (hanging my head in shame)

I only see who gets voted off and who wins because I watch Entertainment Tonight.;)

I'm not proud of this, but it's the truth.

Come by my place when you get a chance, I have tagged you.;)

    God Bless,
    Amy:)

  3. I wasa Brooke fan the most! Then Archuletta and lastly Castro. I love American Idol. Every year I say I'm not going to watch it but I keep getting sucked in.

  4. Oh I did NOT like Castro at all. He drove me nuts - he always just seemed so strange to me... I didn't think he was a goos singer on the show either - just all around goofy!

I LOVED Brooke - I just thought she was so sweet and I just really liked her.

I thought Sayesha was pretty good too and of course David Archuletta! How cute is he?!?!?

  5. I liked David Castro on the show, but I always thought he looked high. Brooke White was my favorite. I thought she was very talented and had a sweet personality.

    Enjoy your week!

  7. Jason Castro was my FAVORITE last season! I really hope he makes a CD - I loved his voice. Brooke was also awesome. Fun times that you got to go to the concert!!!! (o:

  8. Jason Castro was my favorite from the get go.. Well, him and Brooke. I liked his quirky little attitude and I thought it was funny that he was so shy in front of the cameras as well. I also liked that he shared his faith but not in a in your face out blaring kinda way.. Know what I mean?

  9. I have a semi-creepy crush on David A....creepy only in that I am 24, and if I were 12 I would so have teen beat posters of him all over my room.

  10. This comment isn't related to this current post but to the caramel dessert recipe that you had on here a few days ago. I made it this past weekend for my daughters volleyball team and all the girls absolutely loved it. Thanks so much for the recipe!!!!

  12. Welcome. Glad you are on board with a growing number of people across the country. Make that around the world. Jason Castro is a great musician, fantastic performer, wonderful person. You should start at the AI website and read what his goals in life were as a 20-year-old starting on this journey: to be a loving father, faithful husband, servant of all. On another site, he recommends John Piper's Don't Waste Your Life as one of three best books. How can you not fall in love with a guy like that? And he can sing, too!

  13. I liked JC at the begining but throughout the whole show his song choices were bad, which made me not a big fan. I was a David Cook fan. Every year I swear up and down that I am not going to watch that show but then there I am watching and betting with HUBS on who is going to be the next American Idol. Very curious what this year will bring. My fav American Idol continues to be Carrie!!!

  14. I was not a Castro fan at all! I liked David Cook and Brooke White.

  15. I didn't care much for Jason Castro when he was on the show. I loved Brooke White--I thought she was so cute and sweet! Oh, and I loved her hair!! I'm glad you had fun!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Whitney I did the SAME THING! My husband surprised me with tickets and we were both so impressed with his performance. His voice was amazing. We both left there saying that Jason, David Archeletta, and Brooke White were our favorites.

  17. Yes, I liked Jason Castro a lot. He was shy and funny...and he sang wonderfully. I think, as Simon would say, he didn't sing the right songs on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jason Castro stole my heart the first time he sang Daydream. I'm a fan for life. I enjoyed AI so much this season all because of Jason. You either get him or you don't.

    ReplyDelete
  19. that's really neat. I don't watch the show - but I agree - playing your own instrument is a sign of a true musician - and bashing it is super humiliating. I often turn red with embarrassment for others and I could tell that I prob would have for that guy too. YUCK! those things are so expensive. completely disrespectful, I think.

Glad you had a great time though!

    ReplyDelete
  20. WOO HOO! Glad you loved the concert, especially my personal favorites. :) Wish I could have afforded 4 tickets. You & I would have been singing our hearts out the whole night!!!!!

  21. Hi Whitney...you are so lucky to be able to have seen that concert! I was a major Brooke White fan and also liked David Cook. I wasn't a fan of Castro tho...guess I just didn't like his voice. I'm just a country music fan, so I liked Brooke's voice the best!

  22. How Great! I went to the tour last year with my mom and we had a blast. That's when Jordin Sparks was the winner! I didn't make it this year, sadly. I am a die-hard American Idol fan. I don't miss an episode...yep, a little obsessed. Anyway, this year I really liked Brooke White, Jason Castro and David Cook. I tend to like the non-typical ones...there are too many cookie cutter pop stars out there and it drives me nuts! Anyway, glad you went and had a great time. BTW, love that song by Jason Castro!

  23. So glad you kept an open mind and heard what many of us heard from the beginning. Jason Castro is an amazing artist and has a bright future ahead of him. I have always been more of a rocker but Jason's music just touched my heart. He's unique and undeniable and way too cool for American Idol. Either you get him or you don't. And on a final note he was never high on AI.

  24. So glad you kept an open mind and found the joy of Jason Castro. I have been a fan since the beginning. A lot of people didn't get him on the show because they were influenced by the 3 stooges who wanted the 2 David finale & didn't give anyone else a chance. I've always been more of a Rocker but Jason's music just grabbed my heart and hasn't let go. He's as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside.

  25. I am sort of all idol-ed out, but I bet the concert would be fun. I do love live music.

  26. I didn't watch the show, but I just love the version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that you posted. He sings it very well. It's similar to the way the Hawaiian singer Iz sang it. I just love it ;-)

  27. I don't watch American Idol. I watched the first season I think, but then it got old to me. (sorrrrry AI fans!!) But that is really cool that the inlaws gave you the chance to go!

    ReplyDelete
  28. We stopped watching AI after the first season. Wait, that's not 100% true - we do find the first round of tryouts very entertaining. It's sort of like watching a car wreck, I think. Shameful but true. :)

  29. i rarely watch American Idol, usually because the judges irritate me so, haha, and my hunny doesn't like it at all...but i thought i'd give it another try this season...however, i really didn't like any of the people this time either, and the first time Mr. Castro came on stage and sang, i thought it was girl the whole time, until i heard that his first name was Jason, lol...but i'm glad you like him!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was not a Castro fan, I did want David Cook to win. Why is he bashing his instrument? Sounds childish.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yep, total...for those who didn't go to a concert check out his performances on YouTube. I observed him with his fans and he was so sweet and genuine, taking time with each one. He is a young man of faith and humility and I really admire that. He is not the worship leader, but plays in the worship band at his church in Rockwall....Lake Pointe (very large). If you like him and want to keep up with his career, check out myspace.com/jasoncastromusic and his website www.thejasoncastro.com

  34. My husband is insanely jealous of my Jason Fixation. Jason is the first artist in a long time to capture my heart. Glad you "get him."

  35. I enjoyed reading your post, except for that part where you "zoned out" during Jason's performances. WOW! My experience couldn't be more differentthan yours. Jason's amazing voice and unique style enchanted me from the moment I heard him sing Daydream. After that, the only reason I watched Idol was for Jason's new performances. My Jason obsession only continued to grow as I got to know more about this wonderful young artist. The music world needs more talent like his...can't wait to hear what he does next! 36. hi! i'm so glad you opened your ears and your heart to jason! i've loved him from the beginning.. his voice just soothes the soul.. he's really amazing! and as many of my fellow dreadheads have said he's a wonderfully genuine guy of great faith. he's also goofy and hilarious! i met him in atlanta and he was truly the nicest person out of everyone. it was after the show and everyone was rushed.. people asked other idols to take pics w/ them but they all said they couldn't because they didn't have time. but not jason! he took pictures (and gave hugs) to everyone who asked. he LOVES his fans and i'm glad he's got a new one in you!

i also met david a. and he's also a TOTAL doll, he was SOO sweet, exactly as he was on the show!

and i know what you mean about your hubby.. mine hates every male musician that i love too!! they must be jealous ;)

  37. Awesome that you liked Jason Castro! I was flipping tv channels and Jason was about to perform "Daydream" on AI. when I heard that mesmerizing and unique voice and saw that geniune smile, I just got entranced. I am 49 and everyone knows I'm such a music fanatic of lots of genres. Never has an artist like Jason touched my heart and soul with his voice, spirituality, humbleness, and personality! He really cares about his fans and communicates with them on a regular basis. When he sings you actually feel the song in your heart. His music makes me happier and more laid back. And knowing about his faith, the mission trips he's done, and his caring personality, just inspires me to be a better person! If you "get" Jason, then you are a fan for life.

  40. Welcome to the Dreadhead club!!! It's amazing!! So many wonderful fans who think this kid is going to go far. Not only is he an amazing singer, he is an amazing human being. I, along with many other fans have gotten the chance to meet him in person and he is so giving and caring with his fans. What Idol walks out and runs to his fans and gives them a big group hug? What Idol cares enough to set up special date nights for his fans every week? What Idol came out to the the M&G's almost every time throughout the tour (rain/shine/sick/hometown) so not to upset his fans? What Idol's goal in life is to be a good father, husband, and servant to all? Who?
JASON CASTRO!! He's one of a kind!!!

  41. I don't watch AI, but I do like some of the artists that have resulted from it.

I have never been to a concert in my life, can you believe that? I'd probably be excited to go see just about anyone! lol

  42. You kill me. I can't believe you have 42 comments. Amazing. Anyway
I totally felt like you did about the dreadlock boy. There was something about him that annoyed me. I also LOVED David Archueletta. Brooke White also, because she sang well, and was so nice. I liked David Cook too. It's good to know that dreadlock boy redeemed himself in your eyes.

  43. You wouldn't expect someone with a short acoustic set in a huge arena with mostly power belters and rocker types to get much attention.
So it was great to see how people were so drawn in to his performance.
I think he has such a sweet spirit about him that comes through his voice and music..really calming and peaceful - it makes me feel good inside.
Since the only real experience he has had is through the show, I am really interested to see how he develops.
I am glad you gave his a second chance. I think he's gotten a lot of new fans through the tour just like you cause he really grabs you when you see him.

  44. Guess what? I don't have a TV and have only seen 1 episode of American Idol, but it was the one where Jason sang "Over the Rainbow" and I loved it... Anyway, this past weekend, we stayed at a hotel in Tulsa and they were on tour and they stayed at the same hotel and we got to see him all weekend at breakfast, in the lobby, meeting in the halls, etc. It was so weird! (And cool.) The rest of the singers I didn't recognize at all... had no idea who they were, but it was still fun to bump heads with all of them. (Even though the hotel itself was a rip off.) Moving on...

  46. I'd rather listen to a so-so voice filled with passion that one that is "technically" good without it. That's why I loved Jason on the show and why I started learning more about him. As the AI concert progressed, Jason's voice got better and better. At every concert, he took time with the fans. Nearly every review touts Castro as one of the best.
And as I learned more about him, I've grown into a devoted fan. The AI Machine made him out to be stupid and a stoner, but that appears to be far from the truth. He's a bit shy, very polite, loves his family and church and does good deeds.
Please check out JasonCastroMusic.com and Castrocopia.com for more insight into a passionate, talented, and humble spirit. There should be more people in the world like him. Srsly.

  47. I'm so happy you got to see the real Jason Castro on the tour. He's a great talent and a humble, sweet guy. Although the video on these is awful, the sound is good: http://www.youtube.com/user/HannaB20 I took 10 videos related to Jason on the American Idol tour. If you want to hear more, search for Jason Castro Studio on YouTube and listen to his fantastic voice! Good for you, jumping on the Jason Castro bus...be prepared...he's gonna be a BIG star! :)
