Husby Love: Day 2

Husby and I dated for four years and we have been married for four and a half. My, how time flies! We have shared many wonderful years together learning the in's and out's of everything that a relationship entails. I'm tempted to write more about our dating history, but a lot of that is included in "Our Love Story" that I am writing (link up top!) so today I want to tell you about the most special year of my life.

Our first year of marriage.

I distinctly remember boarding the plane on our way home from our perfect honeymoon and looking at Husby with a deer-in-the-headlight look. "We don't have jobs!" I screamed. It just hit me suddenly. We had been engaged for 11 months as we finished up our last year of undergrad and we knew that we were going to have three huge life changes after our wedding day came and went.

1. Marriage
2. Moving
3. Jobs

We were kind of in a hard place because we were moving to a new town together after the wedding. We couldn't find jobs because we were still in college in two different towns (neither being the town we were moving to). We knew that after we said "I do" we were jumping into a handful of changes, and we were ready to do it together.

When we walked into our apartment together for the very first time after our honeymoon, it was surreal knowing that it was "our home". Right then, I knew we would be okay. After all, I wasn't doing this alone. I had my partner on my arm.

Husby mowed lawns for the first three months of our marriage. I scoured the web and newspaper for jobs. Husby eventually found a job perfectly suited for him while I found a series of jobs perfectly wrong for me. While my job situations were certainly stressful and frustrating, Husby was always there to encourage me. He told me time and again to not settle if I wasn't happy. He took me shopping to buy interview outfits and he was my biggest fan. He was my rock.

I laugh now because we were both in job situations that weren't ideal, but that didn't stand in the way of our happiness. We woke up every morning, did the 8-5 and then came home to each other. We cooked together, laughed together, exercised together, watched TV together, went out to eat together...we lived to be home with each other, being together. Our jobs were just something we did in the day so that we could come home to each other at night.

Husby is an easy person to live with, so my biggest adjustment to "living with a boy" was having double the laundry and him walking on the carpet before company came (I had a WEIRD obsession with vacuum lines). We didn't have many fights; we were truly living in bliss of finally being together every single day. We had a long distance relationship while in college, so we were sick and tired of saying goodbye. It was so exciting to be married to this man!

We were very spontaneous that year. When we felt like leaving town, we did. We went on many adventures and weekend trips. We often stayed up late eating junk food and having video game competitions. We went on dates every weekend and often times throughout the week. We had dinner parties with our friends and just enjoyed being Mr. and Mrs.

I think back on that year with such fondness. As much as I thought I knew him then, it doesn't compare to now. As much as I thought I loved him then, I can't even explain how that love has grown now. The first year of marriage with Husby was one of the most exciting, most FUN years of my life. We were so carefree and so fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants. We lived to love each other and everything else came second.

I believe with my whole heart that first year set the tone for the rest of our lives. We decided how we wanted to live and what we wanted for our relationship and set out to accomplish it each day. We started out with such a sweet love that we wanted to enrich and watch grow in the years to come. Here we are four years later and life with him is still the same in so many ways. Sure we have more responsibility and have had huge changes since that year, but he's exactly the same Husby. Still loving me first. Still encouraging me. Still making me laugh. Still as cute as ever. Still being so irresistibly wonderful that I can't help but fall more in love with him every day.

He is exactly who I want Levi to be.

I love you, Husby. Thank you not only for a fabulous first year, but an even better second and third and fourth.... I can't wait to see what our fifth brings.

  2. Sounds a lot like our story, with the graduate/get married/move/no jobs situation. I actually had a job lined up, but didn't start for a month, and Mark didn't have anything at all. We had a good first year, despite the trials of night shift and a job Mark hated.

You guys are adorable! Such cute pics :)
