The Rest of the Story.

I touched about it a bit on Instagram the other day, but wanted to elaborate on why I'm on a quest to Make Blogging Great Again. Since, you know, elaborating is a huge part of I've missed from writing here.

Remember the old school blogs where we simply just wrote about our every day lives? You truly felt connected to a person and like you knew them by the things they wrote. You were drawn to particular people because you were either alike or just interested in whatever way, and you ended up with this little online community of internet friends. It was effortless. Uncomplicated. No pressure. I felt encouraged all the time just knowing there were other women out there in my same stage of life and reading their blogs reminded me we were all navigating it together. It wasn’t just me. And then somewhere along the way, things slowly started to change and blogs seemed to turn more audience-driven and less personal. That's when so many of us dropped off the face of the earth.

In today’s world with all the “perfection” we see on our feeds, I think people feel more isolated than ever. Couple that with the pandemic and it's just a big fat recipe for anxiety and inadequacy. Social media can be a tough space to navigate - wanting to keep up with people, but often times leaving feeling empty. While social media is the highlight reel, I think of blogging as the story behind the reel. The genuine, authentic peek into our homes, families and real life. Hearing stories that make you laugh, and ones that make you feel normal and less alone.

That to me, is what made blogging so great and what I hope makes a comeback. I am crossing my fingers for a Blogging Reboot from everyone! The world is so heavy right now, escaping away for a couple minutes to a few happy places on the internet is what so many of us need.

What about you - what do you miss about the OG blogs? What are some things you get excited to see and read about?

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I miss that people did it just for fun and not as “influencers”. I don’t feel like a friend on certain blogs anymore, more like a customer in some cases, you know?

  2. I think a lot of bloggers want to make money and hopefully be noticed so they can sell their cookbooks or be noticed by companies for promo reasons. I am tired of waiting for ads or small videos to load just so I can read a post. You are the second blogger I've followed who has returned to the 'old way' of doing things, and I appreciate seeing your decorating and what you are up to without having to see so many other things on your page competing for my attention.

    1. I had ads on my blog before and may have them again, but I get where you’re coming from. Sometimes it’s ALL ads and hardly anything else. That gets super frustrating when all I’m trying to do is screen shot a recipe and it keeps jumping down to the bottom of the page because all the ads keep loading. Haha!

    2. And I'm sure you'll get your share of sponsors reaching out to you to ask you to promote their stuff! But the blogs I read are the ones with no ads or very minimal ads. I agree with you about all ads and hardly anything else. If the page keeps jumping so that I cannot make a recipe, I move onto something else! Life is too shore.

  3. You were the first blogger I followed when I got my first laptop many years ago. I have never taken you off my favorites list hoping that you would come back to writing. I have loved your story from the very start, especially serving as an example of being a Christian wife and mother in today's world. Thank you! (Btw, I am making drip sandwiches this week and my husband has asked me twice what day that will be. Haha!)
