Where You Weigh In!

Hey, friends!

We are heading out to Philly soon for work (why is it that everything we do is in PA.?), and I'd love to know any "Philly Musts" if you have any.  We went a couple of years ago and did as much sight seeing as we could, but I would love for y'all to weigh in if you know any good secrets for us. :)

Sights?
Food?
Kid Stuff?
Food?
Tours?
Food?

:)

Last time we went I twisted my ankle on the cobblestone streets and hobbled around on crutches for the rest of the week.  Let us hope that doesn't happen again.  Then again, as I rested on the steps of a church soon after the incident, Marc Summers walked right past me!  I was so excited and had every intention of chasing him down and talking Double Dare and Unwrapped, but alas, my ankle held me back.

Maybe this time I'll spot Will Smith.

"Phill" me in on the Best of Philadelphia!

  1. OOH! OOH! You are going to be in my stomping grounds. I am 15 mins from Philly.
You have to get a cheese steak from Genos & you have to take the kids to the Please Touch Musuem.
    Have a great time!

  2. Franklin Institute (science center), Please Touch museum, the art museum is my absolute favorite place and you can teach Weebie the Rocky pose at the top of the steps! Your kids are too young and innocent for South Street, lol.

  3. I'm from the Philly area!! Okay, here's what you need to know:

As for food, I highly recommend the Redding Terminal Market. They have every cuisine imaginable, but you MUST get a Fourth Street Cookie (or a dozen!) They are AH-MAZING. As for cheesesteaks, I'd recommend either Pat's or Geno's. Also make sure that you get yourselves some Philly soft pretzels.

Independence Hall & The Liberty Bell are cool...but not so great for the kids. Like others have said, I highly recommend the Please Touch Museum and the Franklin Institute. Camden is nearby, and they have a phenomenal aquarium. The Art Museum is also pretty great. Oh! And the zoo is really nice, too!

Eeek I hope you have a fabulous time!

  4. I second the Please Touch Museum for the kids, my daughter LOVES it and is exhausted by the end! We got a family membership for her birthday. You should also go to the Reading Terminal Market. I'm not sure if you've been but they have amazing food and it's visually stimulation for the kids. Have a safe and fun trip!

  5. I'm about 20 mins from Philly too! You've got lots of great suggestions here. I really like the National Constitution Center, but maybe save that for when the kiddos are bigger. You can take the ferry over to the Aquarium in Camden - that's always fun!

  6. This trip will be so much better for you! I spent the day with a friend from high school while Ty was at his test. We went to Franklin Square and there is a cute carousel and a couple of other kid friendly things. If you happen to be in that area, then I would definitely stop by it. The boys would love the carousel!

  7. You must check out the Please Touch museum with your boys, they will love it! I think its one of the best kids museum around and that's saying a lot since I live right outside of Washington Dc. If you want a good cheesesteak experience go to Jims on South, way better than the other touristy places and I agree with the others Reading Terminal Market is another great family place and the food is amazing!

  8. I definitely agree with everyone about Reading Terminal Market...and be sure to get a chocolate-dipped chocolate chip cookie from Fourth Street Cookie Company while you're there!! Also, if you love history, I highly recommend taking a tour of the old Eastern State Penitentiary, "the world's first true penitentiary," where Al Capone was incarcerated. One of the best historic tours I've been on!

  10. If you're looking for a way to hit a bunch of off the beaten path historical sites, check out Watson Adventures Scavenger hunts. We've done a couple and they are always so well done. (as long as you have a stroller, because they involve a lot of walking for little legs.) Please Touch Museum is phenomenal, and if you have a little extra time and a car, The Crayola Factory is about an hour north in Easton, and it is one of the best day trips we've taken with our 4 and 2 year olds. It's so well done, and something the kids can totally relate to, because it's something they use every day! Definitely worth the drive.

  11. I'm sitting in a hotel room in Philly right now!! Brandon is taking his test on Tuesday so we are calling it a mini-vacay! We are literally RIGHT across the street from Reading Terminal Market (staying at the Homes2 Suite Hilton - which I highly recommend!). We were told to eat a pork roast from DaNics (in the Market) and so that was the first place we headed. The line was crazy long but moved fast and the food did not disappoint! Give it a try... BUT I wouldn't recommend taking a stroller - that place was packed and a single stroller was do-able but stressful, a double would be an absolute disaster. Just wanted to warn you!

  12. Ditto on the please Touch Museum and Reading Terminal Market. I like the soft pretzels at miller's Twist and the cinnamon rolls at Dieners. If you ep want to drive a bit south east of philly you could check out Longwood Gardens. Their conservatory is gorgeous and has a fun kids area with water fountains and many paths for exploring.
