If I Had A Pet, I'd Name Him Peeve.

I know it's November and we should be reflecting on all the things for which we're thankful.  And I am.  But today, I'm going to talk about a few of my pet peeves .... because it's Monday and that seems like a good day for a topic like this.

And because a MOUNTAIN of laundry is on my agenda for the day and well, it all just seems so fitting : Monday, Laundry, Pet Peeves.  They go together like rama lama lama ke ding a de ding a dong.

(You're welcome that you'll be singing that for the rest of the day.)

- The lack of please and thank you.  Such simple little words with such powerful effect.  Nothing irks me more than doing something for someone, such as holding open a door, and them walking right on through like they're the King or Queen of Life.  Seriously.  Just say thank you.

- When cashiers hand me my bills, change and receipt all together in one big clump.  I have to separate all three and then the people behind me start sighing because I'm placing my bills where they belong, the change where it belongs and the receipt in the sack or purse or somewhere else besides my hand.  I feel so flustered and rushed and like I'm in a race.

Maybe the people sighing is all in my head.  But I know it's not because the other day I must have been taking too long putting my change up and a lady came and stood DIRECTLY behind me at the register and placed her purse on the little stand in front of me like she owned the place.  I was overcome with rage and turned around and looked at her like she had 3 heads.  She was literally 2 inches from my back.  Just standing there.  It made me want to take out all my bills and rearrange them in alphabetical order according to serial number.  And then polish every coin with my shirt.

- Driving. Slow. In. The. Left. Lane.  Seriously, it causes extreme anxiety in my life.  When I worked outside the home, I had serious road rage.  Like, it was bad.  But now that I'm not necessarily on the roads daily and don't have to be somewhere at an exact time every morning, it's much better.  Working at home is good for my soul and my patience.

- When you ask for a packet of ketchup and they give you 92.

- When stores put a cap on how many things you can take into the dressing room.  Why does it matter? I was at a store the other day that had a sign hanging on the dressing room door saying I could only take three things in.  I took like 8.  I'm such a rebel.  I could either take in all 8 or set the other five outside the door and open the door and switch them out after every item.  Why?!  I mean, how much sense does that make?  I don't understand! Why do I have to step outside of the door and come back in to try on another item? Oh, the wonders of the world.

- Restrooms without changing tables.  I've changed my babies on bathroom floors (covered, of course), benches, my lap, and even on top of an old sewing machine in restrooms before!  And why an old sewing machine was in a restroom, I'll never know.  Nope, no changing table, but we've got a sewing machine!  Maybe you'll want to whip up a dress while you're doing your business!

Okay, guys.  I feel so much better now that I've gotten all of that off my chest.  Sorry this post wasn't very uplifting ... I was in the mood to vent! :)

A wop ba-ba lu-mop a wop bam boom!!

  1. I feel so flustered when people hand me change and a receipt at the same time too! I end up throwing it all in my purse and then fixing it as soon as I get to the car.

I also can't stand slow drivers in the fast lane. They invented two lane highways for a reason!

  2. Maybe I hit up the wrong airports, but the last two times I've flown with the kids, the airport bathrooms did not have changing tables. They had shelves behind the toilets ... for luggage, I guess?? So I had to find an empty gate and sit in the corner and change the baby on the (covered) floor. It seems ludicrous to me--don't babies fly, too?! I don't mind changing the baby in an empty gate ... as long as I can find one! But, still. Weird.

  3. In answer to your question about the number of items allowed in a dressing room, I used to work retail. The number of items being limited is a loss prevention tactic--to prevent shoplifting. It's much easier for a fitting room attendant to take stock of what goes in the dressing room and what comes out if there are fewer items. But I understand your frustration, even if I had to enforce it.

  4. Oh my goodness I can totally relate to the road rage directed at slow drivers in the left lane. Driving from Oologah to downtown Tulsa every morning and then back home after work has really tested my patience. And I usually fail these tests. Why in the world would you drive under the speed limit in the left lane?? Or stay RIGHT BY the car in the right lane so I can't even pass you!? Oh, I'm going to burst just thinking about these people.

  5. I love the mental picture of you polishing coins with your shirt! :) You actually mentioned one of my pet peeves, which is when people in line behind me at a cashier start creeping up to the cash register before I've paid. I shouldn't have to say "excuse me" to swipe my card and sign my name because you're already standing in front of the machine and in such a hurry to be next in line!

  6. Venting posts are some of the best posts, in my opinion. :) Everyone can relate, and these all made me laugh. I can totally see why these are all pet peeves! AHH!

  7. You're Hilarious! I'm with you on each and every one except the ketchup...you're lucky if you get more than two packets here in NY when you ask. I have been pretty fortunate with the changing tables. If I don't see one right away, I go looking for the handicap stall and it usually has one in it.

  8. Oh my goodness, YES to the change, cash, and receipt at the same time. I understand exactly! My mom always taught us growing up to organize everything and put it away before leaving the register - so, i always do and I always feel rushed and like I'm being glared it. It's so frustrating.

  9. The other night I was out by myself and the cashier handed me my bills, change, and receipt all at once. I stood there putting it all away and literally two seconds later she says with a smile "Take your time." I think she was trying to be nice but I was thinking Um do I seem flustered? Because I'm not!!

  10. I hate that rushed feeling after you check out. It's the worst.

  11. When I get handed everything all at once I simply step aside and let the next person go so the line can keep going. What drives me nuts is when you haven't paid yet and they are invading.

I never use those public changing stations because they are hardly ever cleaned. Even putting a blanket down I know the blanket is coming back with me and I can't do it. I'll find a bench or go out to the car.

  12. I think this is only the second time I've visited your blog, but after this post, I adore you. Your title had me hooked! And seriously, AMEN to all of the above items. The slow left lane drivers makes me insane b/c where I live (Phoenix), everyone does it then they spread it to others like a disease and where I'm FROM (KC) it's the most discourteous thing ever imaginable.
