This Here Blog.

Blogging is such a funny little thing.  You catch little daily glimpses into a person's life and home, and those glimpses are a reflection of who the author is or who they portray themselves to be.  (Hopefully the former, but I've heard horror stories about the latter.)  It's quite fun, really.  I follow blogs from all walks of life, all around the world, and those who are very similar to myself and those who are very much nothing like me.  And I love them all.  It is fun and such a great outlet for people who like to write, record and remember.

I receive e-mails frequently from people encouraging me and the things I write about, and I can't tell you what a blessing those are to me!  I try my hardest to show The Real Whitney on here, and to cover all aspects of my life - not just one.  Some people tell me they prefer my posts about decorating, some about my children, some about my faith, some about food, some about my home, and some about my love relationship with my husband.  Some people wish I would ONLY post about my faith (my love for decorating and all-things-home was even referred to as "fluff" by one!), and some people wish I would leave out the faith and only post about my home and hobbies - "the fluff".  :)

The thing is, I'm not just one of those things.  These are the facets that make up who I am.  I am both fun and serious, both spiritual and "fluffy" - my interests are vast.  My blog is a reflection of me ... who I am in every aspect of my life.  My passion.  My interests.  My convictions.  My hobbies.  My relationships.  They are all mine, and they all make up "me".  I feel like you get a more true, whole version of who I am when I do write about all of these things, and not just one.

My goal in writing this blog is to be a light for Christ and to give you a glimpse into both the fun and serious side of who God created me to be.  He has given me a love for writing, a passion for my family, an interest in many things, and a faith that will be voiced and that is the very center of who I am.  And my blog will honestly reflect all of these things.

The Lord has used this blog for pointing several girls and women toward Him through being vocal about my faith here, and you guys - that blesses my soul more than I can even tell you!  If I can increase the Kingdom through my experiences, trials, triumphs, and convictions, then by golly, I'm going to keep writing!  :)

This blog does not only record my memories and serve as an outlet for my stories, it is so much more to me than that - it is definite part of the ministry that I pray my life displays.  What I write is a reflection of who I am, and that holds a lot of weight as the majority of my readers are strangers.  In the midst of all the gamut my posts run, my goal is to be real, have fun, make you laugh, and to encourage someone along the way.

This here blog is mine.  This here blog is me.

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  3. This is why I like you, friend! I try to be real on my blog as well (hence the title of my blog, ha ha!). Right now I can barely squeeze in time to blog but I'm trying to make it work. I love my little corner of the blogosphere. It's mine. All mine!

  4. That is why I love this blog! You share WHO you are and WHAT you believe in regardless of what I or others think or say. I appreciate that, in fact I was reading to my son yesterday (he's only 6 months old) a veggie tales devotional for the day was about setting the right kind of example and had Titus 2:7-"Set an example of good works yourself, with integrity and dignity in your teaching." The prayer for the day said let my light shine brightly for you. Let me be a positive example for all to see, and let me share love and kindness with my family and friends, now and always. And that is EXACTLY what you do Whitney. Thank You!

  5. I follow bloggers who write about economics, poverty, feminism, & politics, and your blog is such a relief to read. Always happy smiles and little triumphs to share, and I appreciate that.

You can't please everyone. And it is not up to you to try. If someone doesn't like a certain kind of post, they can always just skip it.

I think we could all benefit from friendships with people who are not like us. Who have different values, different lives, different politics, different struggles. Sometimes this helps to make us grateful for what we have, or strengthen our convictions, but sometimes it helps ups realize that our assumptions were wrong, or allow us to grow.

I started going to church and have read the bible now because of you. I became a follower of the teachings of Jesus because of you, and I grew up atheist.

You are certainly different from all my IRL friends, and most of the other blogs I follow, but my life is better for knowing you.

  9. Hello, Whitney! I've been reading your blog for over a year now and I really enjoy it. All aspects of it. You and I are very different in many ways. I am a 47 yr old woman, never married and have never had children. I was not raised in a strong religious background but what I did recieve in the form of religious was experiences that were designed to control and demean us. My parents are both mentally ill and my father abandoned us when I was 6. My mother exposed me to all kinds of awful experiences. I've had to take care of myself and had little guidance along the way. My extended family is not very involved in my life either. I've found my way to a faith that works for me and makes my life a blessing. I've attracted a wonderful group of supportive people who make up my chosen family. My life is pretty good. So you and I Whiteny, have had very different lives. My point, is, however, that I enjoy your blog. All of it. There are some things that are more interesting to me than others but I can't imagine asking you to be something you are not and telling you what I don't want to see on YOUR BLOG!! Thank you for being you and sharing your genuine self. And keep writing, keep sharing. It is fascinating to have a glimpse into people's lives, as different or similar as they are to mine. Please don't listen to the people who try to tell you how or what to blog (or other ways to live your life).

  10. I've been reading your blog for a couple of years now, and I really enjoy how diverse your topics are. It keeps it interesting, not knowing exactly what you're going to post about next. All of your topics are interesting, and you always make me laugh. Keep up the good work, and keep on being YOU!

  11. I know exactly what you mean...I've struggled over and over with "my purpose in blogging" because I don't feel like I fit in any regular blogging category, covering bits and pieces of many topics.

Love that you are you and nothing else; it encourages me to stay true to my voice, too.

  12. I don't comment often, but I love, love, love your blog and it is by far my favorite. I love how you don't compromise who you are to please anyone...something that I have struggled with in my life...and when I see that quality in others I so admire it!!

  13. Giiirl, don't you go changing a thing. Your blog is perfect the way it is and totally Whitney. I like diversity in blogs. It's a "life blog" not a "one-note blog" and that's one of the many things that draws people to it. It completely perplexes me that people feel the need to comment negatively. If you don't want to read it, nobody is making you. Sheeesh. Whatevs. Keep up the blogging!

  14. I truly enjoy reading your blog because you ARE a light for Christ. Your love for homemaking, mothering, being a wife, and the beauty in life shines through your writing.

  15. Your blog encourages me daily... or at least as often as you write. It seems that no matter what you write about, I leave encouraged... even if it's random stuff about housekeeping, I'm encouraged to be a better housewife!

  16. I love reading your blog! You are always so upbeat, honest, and you really have a great outlook on life! Don't change a thing!

  17. I love it all! I'm going to second what everyone else is saying and please, keep doing what you're doing. I find it all inspiring in one way or another. How boring would it be to limit yourself to just one topic??

  18. Your blog is one of my favorites that I read. It always cheers me up! xx
