The Big Brother.

My Dearest Levi,

photo

I've never been the older sibling, so I can't speak from experience. I can only speak on who I know you to be, and why I believe God chose YOU to be the big brother.

You are kind and tenderhearted.

Levi, I have never known another child as innately good-natured as you. The Lord has blessed you with a tender little soul that puts others before yourself, hurts when others hurt, laughs when others laugh and are so very aware of the feelings of those around you. We always have to be so careful about how we discuss things because you will run up to us if you think something is wrong and say, "are you happy, Mommy"? When we go to Target, you ask if we can buy something for baby Ezra and never even mention yourself. You are such a little peacemaker, such a big encourager (our Barnabas) and wherever you are, there is joy.

You are a natural born leader.

Baby, there is no talking you into anything you don't want to do - and that is such a good trait to have. Now, I'm not talking obedience-wise; you always take correction and instruction with a gentle humility (thank you for that). But when it comes to figuring something out or choosing something with an option, you will not be swayed. You have your own little mind and there is no changing it. You know who you are, know what you want, and you will not be wavered. Stay that way, child. Stand your ground and keep being the leader. You have the big responsibility of being the role model to your little brother and speaking from experience as a younger sibling, he WILL be watching your every move. Though he will be his own little person with his own little personality, your life and who you are will absolutely contribute to shaping who he becomes. Keep being a leader and paving your own path.

You have a heart for people.

You are so aware of other people, and you have a special spot for younger children. You always notice babies and take time out from playing with your friends or cousins to go talk to them, kiss them, love on them, and encourage them. You try to teach them things and you treat them as one of your peers, but on a softer level. I think the Lord gave you this trait to give you a special bond with your baby brother. You have a lot of friends and have never met a stranger. You are so good to make other children feel included and welcome, and you play well with everyone. Some of your buddies are years older than you, and you jump right in there like you belong in the big middle of them. You've always done that and it makes us laugh how age is not of importance to you. Your love for people, young and old is something to be admired.

You are special.

Levi, I could go on and on with all the attributes that will not only make you a great big brother, but an excellent person. Your patience, your helpful spirit, your affectionate nature ... to name a few. I've known since the moment your precious little eyes first gazed into mine that you are special. You are blessed. You have an anointing on your life, little one, and I pray you not only realize it, but enforce and use it - to be exactly who the Lord created you to be.

I so look forward to this new chapter in our lives, my baby. You've been my little sidekick and special buddy for the past (almost) three years and I'm excited to see you transform into your new role as big brother as we add your sweet little brother to the family. You have been an immense help to me in these last few weeks of pregnancy - helping so much that I don't know what I would do without you! I know that you will continue to help when he comes and that brings me such comfort. I love knowing that you'll be here with me - refiguring this whole thing out with your daddy and I. You are my blessing, Levi. I could never express what you mean to me. I love you with my whole heart, my angel. To the moon and back.

Thank you for teaching me how to be a Mommy. I could not have asked for a more perfect fit to introduce me into this precious role in my life.

You are my Weebie Boy. You are my pride, my joy.
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  8. What a beautiful letter to your son. It brought tears to my eyes and I'm not a naturally demonstrative person (I'm British...we're known for our reserve!).

Levi sounds like a very special little boy, but perhaps it helps that he has such a special family to guide him. Blessings to you all as you start this new chapter in your lives.

  18. Such a beautiful letter. Levi is such a precious little boy.

Levi's kind heart and gentle spirit are a testament to y'all and your guidance. I'm not saying that there won't be challenges with your children, but it is very clear that you have and are continuing to raise him (and will also raise Ezra)in a wonderful way.

  21. I've been reading a great book called "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. Read it!!! The book is about what makes successful people who they are. Your post made me think of his book because Levi has so many critical factors already present in his little life to help make him a successful adult. There is nothing more important than raising good kids, and you're doing it!! I love to see families who are thriving, who are "training up" Godly children. The world is an empty stage! Keep doing it, Mommy and Daddy!

  22. One more thing...we have 4 children, and each time I lay in my hospital bed with my newest babe...I always have a moment of mourning for my "old" life. Once I go home with that baby, nothing with EVER be the way it was before this child arrived. I mourn for my other children and how this new one with change their life. It is a bittersweet thing. I felt this when I read this VERY touching letter. Levi will still be Levi, but only better! Having Ezra in your family will enhance your life in ways you never expected. This was a beautiful letter. You are a beautiful Mommy!
