Insider Trading.

You know those secrets that you aren't sure if you should share with anyone else because then it might ruin it for you? Like a good recipe or a special discount at a store ... you don't want everyone claiming credit on your prize winning dish and you don't want everyone in town wearing the same jacket as you. We're selfish little creatures like that, aren't we?

Well, folks. I have a little insider tip for you that I'm not afraid to share.

But you have to promise to keep out of my little town and our Dollar General. Because so help me if you deplete their stock of this little goodie, well .... it won't be pretty. Trust me.

I blogged last week about my love and devotion to THE girl scout cookie, Tagalongs. Come to think of it, I think I blog about them every year. You know the ones - small disk shaped chocolate cookies filled with peanut butter and covered with fudge? I mean, really. What else do you need in life?

I hesitated to buy any this year because of our getting away from processed sugar, but when I ran across these bad boys the other day, my curiosity got to me and I gave in to temptation. I blame the baby in my womb.

Introducing ...

Clover Valley Fudge Peanut Butter Filled Cookies, found at Dollar General.

AKA - A knockoff of the best girl scout cookie on earth - the Tagalong.

Y'all.

Let me tell you something.

THEY ARE EVERY BIT AS GOOD! I'm not sure that I could even tell a difference if I were given a blind taste test. And I'm not even kidding. Oh, and the best part? They are $1.80 per box, compared to the ripoff $4 those cute little girls charge! AND they are sold year round.

When I sank my teeth into one I lost all sense of reasoning and screamed, "SUGAR SHMUGAR, these things are the bomb diggity! Why did I only buy one box?!" And then I hid in a dark corner and shoved them down my gullet row by row until they were gone.

Okay, so maybe that's not what happened, but I did wake up from a nap one day craving sugar and chocolate like a mad woman and ate four of them in a matter of seconds. It was awesome.

Oh, and guess what else?

They also sell a Thin Mint type cookie, too. I think they're called "Mint Thins". Original, aye? I didn't buy a box of those but when I browsed the aisle a week after I bought my cookies, I noticed they were sold out of every box of the Thin Mints. I may have to try and compare those next.

I should get paid for this. Taste testing cookies? Yup, dream job.

Now that I've shared this little insider tip with you, I fully expect to be bombarded by angry little pig-tailed girls throwing fists and berets at me. Any one have a boy scout I can hire to be my body guard?

  1. I have never been a big fan of the Girl Scout cookies. Give me a gooey, warm homemade cookie, thank you. People are always surprised that I can look into the pleading eyes of a little munchkin and say NO.

  2. Hahaahaaa! I have a cute little girl scout in my house... she joined the clan just in time for the cookie sales this year.

Her Daddy is her biggest client.

Although, hers are $3.50 a box, you MAY be getting ripped off.

I have not seen the "Tagalongs" at our Dollar General, or the "Thin Mints" for that matter.. We do have the "Samoas" though, and you are right... cannot taste the difference. Maybe they taste better because I don't have to sell my first born for a couple of boxes.

Personally, the Dollar General "Devils Food" chocolate covered goodness are my favorite. I tell myself I can eat as many as I want because they are fat free!

  3. I love the Dollar Store brand cookies :) But the bad thing about them is you can get them ALL the time...If you know what I mean...

  4. Keebler makes knockoff GS cookies, too! The "coconut dreams" are EXACTLY the same as Samoas. Soooo delicious.

  8. I would eat the whole box. And then, I'd tell myself the next box I bought, I wouldn't do that again. And I'd do it again.

No self control. Only with peanut buttery kind though...yuck on anything minty.
I'm with Verla, homemade gooey yumminess...happy lady!

  9. GASP! I never go to Dollar General, but I might need to check this out!! I heart Tagalongs! Thanks for the tip! Luckily I live in NC so you don't have to worry about me clearing the aisles at your local store. :)

  12. And considering the cute little girl scout's troop only gets 10% of the sale proceeds? You're better off buying your discount cookies and just giving your local GS troop the money you saved :D

p.s. I deleted my previous comment because I realized I had a punctuation error...and I'm anal about those things. ;)

  13. I know what it takes to have a good credit score or to maintain it. My credit took a bad turn after I took a business loan late last year. I was at 850+ and after applying for a loan, my credit score dropped drastically. “WEBDRIVE AT WRITEME DOT COM” team was so helpful after complaining to them. I’m so grateful.
