Lots'A Thoughts!

Hello there, friends! Life has been a little bit ca-razy over the past couple of weeks, so I'm just going to throw my jumbled up thoughts out there for y'all. Hopefully, it's at least a little coherent. :)

* I turned 28 on Sunday! Yay me! It was a very exciting birthday. My boys smothered me with love and we had several little celebrations. After all, birthday WEEK is the way we roll around here. Tee Hee.

* Mom had a Carnegie Cheesecake sent to me from NYC. It just so happens to be my very favorite dessert in the entire universe! Every time I open the fridge and see that little beauty, my life gets 10 X's better. It's extremely good with fresh summer peaches. Drool-worthy!

* Husby has a really tough shift this month where he has to be at the hospital at 4:30am. This means he gets up at 3:30am. This means he goes to bed at 9pm. This means that I have been sucked in to some ridiculous television shows that leave me brainless. I watched the Kardashians for the first time the other night and really, there are no words. Unreal. And then I watched a Real Housewives for the first time. Left me speechless, and confirmed to me why I don't watch these shows. Then I found the ridiculousness that is Dance Mom and could NOT look away. It's more of a train wreck than Toddlers & Tiaras. And I like it better. Although, it leaves me wanting to punch someone. Actually, all of those shows do.

* Pinterest has inspired me to be more organized. Remember that time I overhauled my pantry? You should see it now. I need to do it again, Sam. Along with basically every closet and drawer in the house. Is it just me or are drawers impossible to keep organized?

* Oklahoma has been named the hottest state in the month of July ever in history. We have had weeks straight of 100+ degree temps. And I don't just mean 101, 102. I'm talking 112-115. It HURTS. We've been praying for rain and had a downpour the past two days. It's been gorgeous!

* To beat the heat the other day, we went to the creek by where we grew up that is known for being COLD, no matter how hot it is outside. That day the temperature was 115, and the cool water was a refreshing 58 degrees. It was amazing. Weebie had so much fun!!

* The Help is out! I want to go! Now! I can't wait!!

* Levi called me "Mommy Bird" for the past couple of weeks and insisted I call him "Baby Bird". This week, he has alternated between calling me Mommy Bird and Mommy Lion. I'm wondering if he's trying to tell me something about my demeanor, but I'm really hoping that's not the case. ;) Anxious to see what I'll be next week.

* Husby got me an awesome new lens for my camera for my birthday and Weebie got me HANSON TICKETS! I'm thrilled about both. My best friend and I are going to be mmm-bopping our little hearts out next month.

* I need to learn how to use a curling iron, but I can't do it for the life of me. Anyone know any Curling Ironing For Dummies techniques?

* Levi still wants a sticker and a treat (m&m) every time he goes potty. Ha!! Will I still be rewarding him when he's 18? Probably.

* A new outlet mall opened a couple towns away from us. I gotta get there and I gotta get there fast.

* Tonight I smashed my finger in Levi's underwear drawer, thought Husby broke my wrist by tossing me the remote when I didn't know he was going to, and dropped the Wii Fitness board on top of my foot. And then I went outside and I swear almost got struck by lightening. Tonight was not my night.

* I never answer my door. Ever. Unless I am expecting someone. I am far too cautious. (paranoid).

* My Dad installed a peep-hole for me. That helps a lot. But I still never answer it because you never know when the Fed Ex guy is really a dressed-up psycho murderer.

* My favorite salad is The Cheesecake Factory's Cobb. Minus the egg and bleu cheese. It. Is. Amazing. I could eat it every day for the rest of my life, I do believe. Also, the Chicken B.T.M (balsamic, tomato and *fresh* mozzerella) from Cosi.

* A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a People Magazine at the check out of the grocery store and the clerk (a teenager), stopped what she was doing and studied it for a while.

Her: "Who is this?"
Me: "It's the Bachelorette."
Her: "Who's the Bachelorette?"
Me: "Ummm....she's the Bachelorette. From The Bachelorette."
Her: "Oh. Never heard of it."
Then she proceeded to stare at me for 5 minutes. Weirdest moment of my life.

* Okay, maybe not the weirdest, but one of.

G'night, lovelies!

  1. Hahaha! Glad I'm not the only one who wonders if the FedEx guy at the door is really a disguised serial killer!

Loved your thoughts. You're a funny gal =)

  2. Living in Miami, I am totally the "I don't answer my door" girl. I mean, seriously. Wasn't there a "Stanley Steamer" murder, too? Eek. People make fun of me, but I'm still alive aren't I? Lol.

Hilarious "Bachelorette" convo. Sometimes I wonder about people. ;)

  3. Your 58 degree creek in 115 degree weather sounds amazing! I needed one of those back home in California. Here in Colorado it's much cooler, but I still the like idea of a cool creek!

  4. Ah, 115 degrees. I live in Phoenix and that's pretty much the norm here from June to September. SO GROSS. Lately it's been a chilly 105 though, and I'm sure our humidity is nothing compared to yours though. You're lucky to have that creek!

  5. Scotland never gets about 70 degrees. I've lived here for 4 years and It's been up to 70 twice. But no higher. We had a few gorgeous days of 65! But we stay pretty cool the rest of the year. Summer is only a few short week. Sun in optional. Now it is 50 degrees and raining. I've had the heat on all week.

Forget the curling iron. Grab a set of hot rollers. You might look like you're in the 50's but they are SO fast and easy. Practice when husby is at work and when you get good at putting those babies in it only takes about 2 min. Then while they are curling you can do your makeup. Then you take them out. Shake your head. Bing bat-a-boom you're done! EASY PEASY!

We don't have The Bachelorette here in Scotland so I would have NO idea who that girl was either.

I never answer the door either. But only because I never want to be bothered. My husband calls it "The Anne Frank Technique"

  6. Happy belated birthday! I don't blame you on the door thing. It's one of the reasons I hate being home alone when my husband travels for business. The first night is usually the worst for me. The chances of anyone breaking into my house are really slim and yet, I still leave lights on all night around the house just in case.

  7. Glasgow has been cold and rainy all week. 115 is too hot but I'm the kind of girl who thrives in sunshine.

I always used to try to curl my hair by clamping it at the end and rolling towards the roots, but a friend showed me how to clamp at the roots and twist the hair around the curling iron and hold it with my fingers. It works a lot easier that way.

Also I'm a fan of wet-set rollers. Especially good for a night out, you wash your hair in the morning, put in the curlers with a little setting agent and then let them dry au-natural (although you can speed up the process with a hair dryer)

There are tonnes of wet-set tuorials online.

    Happy birthday!

  8. I learned to curl my hair by watching this tutorial from Sydney over at The Daybook. It's changed my life. Seriously.

  9. I'm sooo happy to find someone else as cautious (paranoid) as me! :) I hate answering my door to strangers! We frequently get salesmen or kids wanting to collect pop cans...I typically don't answer unless my husband is home :).

  10. I'm dying to see The Help too! But I need to read it first. Which I never seem to find time to do.

  11. All your thoughts cracked me up. Especially the last one about the Batchelorette. Too funny. I also don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone and I also can't wait to see The Help!

  12. Lots goin' on in your world, sister! Sounds like mine! I took an organizing class this summer because one of my friends is a professional organizer. I learned SO much about establishing and maintaining an orderly home. I've just about driven Brian crazy with my new organization skills as we've settled into our new home. It's taken me about twice as long to set up house as it usually does. But, SO SO SO much easier/quicker to keep it orderly.

  15. oh yes. Dance Moms and Toddlers & Tiaras are my guilty pleasure tv shows. As a 17 year old, I hate babies. Can't stand them. So I dread the day when I'm married and I have a kid cause I feel like I'll be the worst parent ever. And then I watch those shows. And I feel so much better about my future parenting abilities. And myself in general :p

  16. I can't believe the teenage girl didn't know what the bachelorette was!! Ca-razy!!

  17. *Happy Birthday! You're just 3 days older than me! :)
*I saw The Help last night. You must go, NOW!!! It's amazing, but bring your Kleenex!
*I'm not allowed/don't want to answer the door either. I did once, and it resulted in a year long subscription to the local paper, most of which I was promised I wouldn't have to pay for, and a not so happy husband :/
