Best Advice!

Here are some tidbits of the best advice I've received throughout my life to date!

Concerning Worry: Don't worry about anything instead pray about everything.

Concerning Friends: To have a friend, be a friend.

Concerning Strangers: Be kind and gracious - you never know when you're entertaining angels unaware.

Concerning Dating: Play hard to get. Never let them know they have you. Be mysterious. Also, if you can't see yourself marrying him, don't waste time dating him.

Concerning Food: If you can't pronounce the ingredients, don't eat it. (Um, I don't always follow it, but it's great advice.)

Concerning Marriage: Keep God first, laugh often, give your all and don't take him for granted. And put forth the effort to look/smell nice before he gets home.

Concerning Parenting: Pray for wisdom, seek godly council and no one knows what's best for your child, BUT YOU.

Concerning Difficult People: Pour heaping coals of kindness on them.

Concerning Organization: If you haven't used it in a year, throw it out.

Concerning Housekeeping: Do at least one load of laundry every day.

Concerning "Stuff": It's all wood, hay and stubble.

Concerning The Future: Never say never.

Concerning Sin: It takes you farther than you ever wanted to go, keeps you longer than you ever wanted to stay and costs you more than you ever wanted to pay.

Concerning Laughter: There is an element of humor in most all circumstances.

Concerning Social Networking: If you wouldn't say it face-to-face, just don't say it.

Concerning Childbirth: Meditate on the end reward.

Concerning Stretch Marks: They're battle wounds for motherhood. Own em! (Um, does this count even if they're not on my tummy? HAHA! Um, my hips went through the war, too - apparently.) :)

Concerning Interior Design: Light your rooms with lamps. Just say NO to overhead lighting! (excluding the kitchen, of course.) Do not hang your pictures up too high. Go big or go home (i.e. a tiny plate on a giant wall - AH!).

Concerning God: Delight yourself in Him.

Share some of YOUR good advice, ladies!

  1. One of the most common that my mom always tells me, from her grandmother, is "If you're bored, you're boring." :) It's true!!

  3. My granny always used to tell me to make sure I had on clean underwear and shaved legs in case of emergency. Welllllllll. I had to go to the ER a few months ago and while my knickers were clean....someone got lazy and hadn't shaved in a few days. So it was all sorts of fun when they pulled my pant legs up to stick wires on me. :)

  4. Forgive. Forgive. Forgive. The world is full of grudge holders. Dare to be different.

  5. I love this! I loved the parenting one, where you said no one knows what's best for your child but YOU! This reminded me of a long time ago when you said you didn't breastfeed Levi. I haven't breastfed either of my two, for different reasons. I would love to see you write a post about not breastfeeding and how it's the right choice for some people, since all I see out there are posts about why you should and ONLY should breastfeed. If you need a blogging idea, I think that would be a great one that a lot of moms would appreciate.

    Anyway! Love your blog!!

  10. When I was engaged, a friend told me to never go to bed mad at my husband. She said that each night as you climb in bed, reach over and touch your foot to his. If you can't stand to touch feet then you better turn on the lights and keep on talking!

  11. These were great! My big one is don't make a big decision on an empty stomach! AND In marriage, every decision (such as should I buy this? Etc) as if your husband was standing right there.

  12. Great Advice! My Mother taught me the one about look/smell nice before he gets home, when I got married. And to never go to bed angry, with him or anyone else.
A friend told me: always wear cute pajamas because you never know who you will meet in your dreams! :)

  13. Love these! My sayings I always think about when trying to get back to a good mood are:

"Fake it til you make it" and
"Smile, it makes people wonder what your thinking."

It's so hard to stay grouchy when you're smiling!

  14. I don't know that it is exactly advice, but I really like this quote:

The difference between school and life? In school, you're given a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.

  15. Hung-too-high pictures on walls make me crazy! And I'm with you on the overhead lights too...yuck!

  16. Love these pieces of advice! Strangers, organization, marriage and sin were my favorites. I think the lyrics to the song "Love Like Crazy" give some great advice. "Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I love you. Go to work, do your best, don't outsmart your common since. Never let your prayin' knees get lazy. And love like crazy."

  17. Love this advice post! One time when I was down in the dumps my mom quoted Leann Womack's song "I Hope You Dance" to me. Every line is good advice. Especially the line, "And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance." Take advantage of life and live it to the fullest.

  18. About people: Never push a rope - If someone has their mind made up, don't keep pushing them. Either leave them alone or find a new way to pull them in your direction.

Similarly, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

About Life: Sometimes the best you can do won't be good enough. You won't get everything in life but you always have to do the best you can do with what you have.

About anger: Anger brings extra energy, but it dominates our rationality. The energy of anger is almost always unreliable.

Holding onto a grudge is like holding onto a hot coal with the intention of throwing it at someone else...you're the one that gets burned.

  30. The best parenting advice I've heard is: only listen to advice from the parents of children that turned out the way you want yours to turn out.

It was during the time when I was trying to figure out why my first born wasn't sleeping well. I realized that the conflicting advice was from parents of good sleepers and parents whose kids woke up 4 times a night. Once I heard that, it occurred to me WHO I should be listening to. Why was I considering sleep tips from parents whose pre-schoolers didn't sleep well?!?!?
