Yesterday I told you guys about my character flaw of blocking out boring stuff/people and daydreaming about my own fun and happy things. And as long as we're discussing flaws, let's throw out another .... I am nosey.
Now, I'm not like blatantly nosey to where I drive people crazy wanting to know details over things I'm not supposed to know. Gossip and nosiness are two different things and I'm not a fan of le gossip. (Unless it's about celebrities, and I know that's no different than regular people, but I pretend like it is so that I don't feel guilty. Phew, good to get that off my chest.)
So. I am nosey about things that don't really matter. I have always been interested and fascinated by the ordinary run-of-the-mill, day to day goings on of other human beings. Facebook status updates? Love 'em. I get to know what every one is doing at any given time. (It also gets annoying sometimes so I have to go on Facebook Hiatus and give my brain/soul/mind/spirit a rest and just be still.)
Anyway, I'm chasing rabbits here.
For instance, I have a few friends that I chat with on a daily basis throughout most of the days via text. One friend and I have been doing this most every day for a few years now and we talk about any and everything all the time. It's awesome. I ask her what she's having for supper, what brand of detergent she uses ... basically anything that pops into my mind. We have hilarious interactions about absolutely NOTHING, but ya know what? It's all stuff I actually want to know!!!
I don't know why I care about the things I care about, but I do.
I remember working down at my Dad's pharmacy in college and asking the other techs/cashiers what they were having for supper every single night.
When I was little I would disappear for minutes on end to the bathroom in restaurants to the point where my Mom would have to come find me. Every time I was opening all the cabinets and drawers just to see what was in there.
In High School my friend and I hacked into another girl's e-mail one time and read every single thing. (Okay, I feel really bad about that one...and that's beyond being nosey....that's just wrong. We had a reason behind it, but that doesn't matter. It was bad. And wrong.)
I look in people's windows as we drive by their houses and glance in people's cars as I pass.
I eves drop into complete strangers conversations as if I were straining to hear the outcome of a neck and neck election through a screaming crowd.
The random facts/discoveries that I have rolling around in my head would bore the majority of people to tears, but for some reason, it's so interesting to me. I'll never understand it, but I've just got to know....

what are you having for supper tonight?
I thought you were about to say Whitney is...a pregnant mum with a one year old boy. Disappointed me there, here I was looking forward to the new addition news :)
ReplyDeleteDinner tonight...I'm not actually sure. We are actually for the first time ever childfree and have no plans (we do leave the kids, but always have plans to do stuff), so we're thinking of heading out to dinner.
Dinner=Haagen-Dazs Carmel Cone Ice Cream!!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubs and I are going out for supper tonight so I am not sure what we are having.
ReplyDeleteI am exactly like you! I love seeing how people live. One palce I love looking is in people's carts at the supermarket. SO INTERESTING!
Yes! A woman after my own heart! I LOVE this stuff, too! That's why I'm so into reading blogs - I just love to know what people are doing in their everyday lives!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, we were at home group tonight and ate enchilada casserole, salad, and chocolate chip muffins for dessert.
And we use Tide with Febreeze laundry detergent.
We had a delicious taco salad with ground turkey, corn, black beans, pepper-jack cheese, olive, flax-seed chips and Catalina dressing.
ReplyDeleteI also love listening to other people's conversations & such. So fun to find out what is going on with everyone. Lovin' the blog world, it is perfect for this!
Oh my. I'm being super busy these months, but after reading this post, I had to leave you a comment.
ReplyDeleteBecause now I know I'm not the only one in this world who is interested in that kind of things. I never hacked an e-mail, but when I'm in a restaurant I try to listen to every conversation that is taking place nearby. I can't help it. I also look in people's window... And gossip about celebrities? Oh, please. I love that.
I love your blog and I'm always reading it, love your baby (he's SO CUTE!!) and one day I'd like to be like you. I'm sorry I don't often (or never...) comment. But I promise I'll do my best, I try to leave you a comment, at least once a week.
Dinner tonight... I don't know. MJ is cooking tonight... But yesterday we had lasagne for dinner.
I'm probably having Ramen noodles, AGAIN!
ReplyDeletewww.flyladyflunky.blogspot.com
I'm the same way - I'm awful about listening to other people's conversations (especially when Mark and I are out to dinner, which he doesn't appreciate much). I think it's why I like blogging so much - you get to hear all the intimate details of people's lives - but it's obviously stuff they don't mind people knowing, or they wouldn't post it on the internet.
ReplyDeleteAs for dinner, I'm not sure what we're having ... it's grocery day today :) But possibly tacos/taco salad.
I'm making pierogies with my friends - and I completely sympathize, I'm terribly nosy myself!
ReplyDeletetonight we're having spaghetti & salad. yum!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty nosey too - so much to the point that sometimes at parties/gatherings I can't concentrate on my conversation b/c I want to know what everyone else is talking about! I'm trying to work on it :)
Haha! That's awesome. I love looking in people's windows! Hey, if they leave them open, I say it's fair game :-) And I have no idea what I'm having for supper tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way - seriously, I am! When ppl post pictures, I'm always trying to look in the backgrounds of the pictures to see what kind of products they use, etc.
ReplyDeleteFor dinner tonight...either leftover spaghetti or some baked chicken strips rolled in bread crumbs...and steamed zucchini or green beans.
Dinner = Frosty from Wendys. It was so hot and humid today and I had a four hour dance rehearsal. It was needed. ;)
ReplyDeleteI feel like you just became my best friend! I do the same thing!! :) (Drives my hubs crazy!) I have to work until 10 tonight so I'll eat at Chick-Fil-A while my husband scrounges up left overs while he's home alone!
ReplyDeleteAnd we use Tide Free laundry detergent.
And my favorite bathroom cleaner (at the moment) is the new Soft Scrub spray that sprays when the bottle is upside down.
And I painted my toe nails orange yesterday.
Thank you for listening!
You are hilarious!! We are probably having Chick-fil-a for kids eat FREE night! :)
ReplyDeleteI am that kind of nosey, too!
ReplyDeletelol, the pioneer woman's steak bites, and baked potatoes. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm nosey too! I don't think I've ever listened in on conversations in restaurants, but I want to KNOW people's business. I like looking at what the person behind me in the checkout line of the grocery store is buying. I look at their stuff and try to imagine what kind of lifestyle they have or what they're eating. Then I look at my stuff and try to imagine what someone else would think about my purchase. My biggest nosey weakness is looking in other people's showers/bathtubs to see what's in there. I want to know what kind of shampoo, how many body washes, etc that person has. I don't know why but it's like I HAVE to know!
ReplyDeleteDinner tonight...probably nothing since I'm trying to lose weight before my 10 year class reunion, which is in two months. But if I do give in, it will probably be a grilled cheese sandwich and pickles.
Oh Whitney! I'm the exact same way and now my daughter, 6 years old, is following my nosey footsteps!
ReplyDeleteWe were driving home one evening and she asked me to slow down because she could not see into the houses as we were passing!
Another instance, I was pumping gas and she pounded on the window demanding that I roll it down. I asked why and she said she could not hear what the people next to us were saying!
What a hoot!
And dinner will be meatloaf, mac and cheese, salad and biscuits!
Jennifer
Dinner = Friendly's! We're off to run errands at the mall and will likely dodge into Friendly's. Not sure what the grown-ups will eat, but I see a grilled cheese and some applesauce in my son's future! Oh - and ice cream. All around. :)
ReplyDeleteAha! I am absolutely the same which is why I like reading blogs!! I try very hard to stay out of/avoid knowing sticky personal stuff aka "drama" that goes on with people I know. People who are close enough with me come to me for advice or comfort sometimes, which is a role I love to fill, but if anyone tells me a secret or if I find one out I'm a vault.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always called gossip "seeds of pestilence" which sounds a bit dramatic but the idea is that when you talk about other people you are planting seeds (ideas) about them in other peoples minds that take root are hard to remove. Most people never bother to go un-sow their seeds either so its better to never plant them in the first place!
But I totally know what you mean about being facinated with mundane things! I like seeing the pictures people hang on their walls or the things they buy at the grocery store!
I work tonight, at a restaurant, so I will probably have a bean burger with grilled mushrooms and a side salad if I'm feeling good but probably i'll just eat chips :)
This is too funny!
ReplyDeleteI'm like that too!
For supper tonight, we will be eating cereal or a sandwich. Tuesday nights are our small group nights - so we both rush in then rush out!
I'm like that too! Especially lookin in other people's windows at night. I figure if they don't want people to look in (and I'm not staring, just glancing), then they'd close the curtains. We have lots of windows and it bothers me that people stare inside (when I'm standing right there!) as they walk by. Glancing is ok, staring is rude ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have no idea what is for dinner tonight...I should probably take something out of the freezer. Chicken probably.
ReplyDeleteI'm that kind of nosey too! I like to people watch and even...gasp...ease drop. I don't know why I do it. Sometimes I think I would've made a great private investigator!
ReplyDeleteFor dinner tonight: Taco Soup
It's really easy and really good. Here's the recipe: http://southernfood.about.com/od/soupandstew/r/bl30414v.htm
I am the SAME WAY. My husband hates it, but I'm a journalist so I tell him its in my nature to be nosy (that sort of makes sense... right?) I never asked people what they were eating, but I LOVE names so I am always asking people their mothers/cousins/sisters/nephews name. During a story, I'll stop someone if they say, "And so my nephew..." and I'll be like, "whats his name?" I can't explain it either...
ReplyDeleteTonight we're having chicken and veggie kabobs with garlic and herb couscous!
I am quite nosey, especially in people's houses. If I am invited for coffee I always ask to use the loo, just so I can have a look round, even if it's just along the hall!
ReplyDeleteI am so the same way!!!
ReplyDeleteas for dinner tonight... I have no clue
We are going out for dinner to celebrate tonight. But last night we had The Pioneer Woman's pot roast and mashed potatoes. It was DELICIOUS!
ReplyDeleteI am fixing a goulash:)I'm pretty nosey too so I understand--that's why I read your blog.
ReplyDeleteI listen to other people's conversations when we are out too! It's like I can't...not do it. I don't mean to, but I get so distracted by them.
ReplyDeleteWe're having Mexican pizzas!
steak, hassleback potatoes, and steamed zucchini squash... and white cake for dessert. :)
ReplyDeleteKiddos are having (well, had) homemade mac & cheese. I'm tagging along on hubby's business dinner (LOVE expense account dining!).
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I think we all have a bit of that in us. I think reading blogs is a bit like being nosey - it's a window into someone's life you usually don't get - only invited. :)
ReplyDeleteTonight we had Cuban pork chops with black beans and rice. It was yummy, fast & healthy!
We went to Doolittles and I got chicken!!
ReplyDeleteClever, clever girl. Love the end question! I can remember you e-mailing me with that question quite frequently when you were working.
ReplyDeleteI think we were separated at birth! Tonight hubs friend and his gf broke up. Before he could finish his sentence I had 20 questions ready to go. I always admit that I'm noisy and not embarrassed about it. I like to know what is going on all the time. Ya never know when it's going to come in handy. I also love people watching. Usually I can even give you some background info on the people. I'm never mean about it, so how can it be bad?!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE to see what people put on the convayer (sp?) belt at the grocery store. I follow coupon blogs to see what groceries people buy. If I had a make-a-wish wish, I would wish to look inside people's pantry's. I'm obsessed. I hope you do another Pantry post, because I am interested in what type of bread crumbs you use.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know I'm not the only one! I find myself constantly looking out my patio slider doors to see what the neighbors are up to outside! But then I feel embarrassed if I think they saw me looking...still can't seem to stop doing it though!
