The other evening before Husby, Weebie and I hit up the grocery store, we ran through McDonald's for a quick bite of supper. When it comes to fast food, I am a person of routine and monotony. I rarely switch it up and I usually order chicken wherever I go. And when I do order a burger, I am a one patty kind of girl.
Basically what I am saying is that the two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun has never graced my taste buds. Can you believe it? I have never had a Big Mac.

As we whipped through the drive thru I wasn't in the mood for anything in particular so I said to Husby, "I'll just have what you have". He gasped when I told him I'd never had a Big Mac and he quickly labeled me "Un-American." So guess what he ordered? You got it - The Big Mac.
I asked him if I could order it with one patty and he told me no, that I was going to eat it like every other red blooded American. I obliged and opened my square little brown box only to find an enormous burger staring back at me.
Two patties. Three buns. "This is absolute rubbish", I thought to myself.
I opened my jaws as wide as they would go and sunk my teeth into the three tiered sandwich. Husby watched with a smile and said "what do you think?" as anticipation spread over his face. I chomped, chewed and finally swallowed and replied with a smirk, "It's miiiiighty tasty!"
I am here to tell you that not only did I TRY a Big Mac, but I devoured a Big Mac. Not drop of lettuce or sesame seed left and not a trace of special sauce left on my fingers. That was the best rubbish I've ever tasted.
I am proud to have joined the millions of shed the title "Un-American". With each bite I saw the Red White and Blue waving in the wind, fireworks exploding in the distance and the faint sound of National Anthem ringing out. I am finally a real citizen of the United States of America.
Now if you think I am weird for never having a Big Mac in my 26 years of life, I know a guy who has never had a sugar cookie! In fact, he didn't even know what one was! And he lived in Small Town, USA his entire life - it's not like he was foreign or anything. Now that is just bizarre to me!
What "typical" thing have you never tasted that the majority of America has?
Anything? Anyone? Please tell me I'm not the only one....

Well, I've never had a Big Mac either, nor have I had a Whopper... I've also never tried pork rinds! :P
ReplyDeleteLove your post!!
ReplyDeleteI'm Chinese..and mostly chinese loves PORK!!! But I'm "UN CHINESE"..hehe..I hate pork!! I hate those smell!!
-Jose's Diary-
i've never had a big mac either, and probably never will after seeing food, inc. eeks.
ReplyDeletei guess that makes me un-american, oh well, i'm ok with it :)
I've never had a Big Mac or a hot dog. People think I am crazy for the hot dog one.
ReplyDeleteI've never drank a cup of coffee. I am not a fan of the smell and even a sip makes me know it's not a taste I want to acquire. I won't even do coffee drinks like frappes or coffee ice cream. But I do love coffee shops and hot chocolate or joe free mocha frappes, which are basically a chocolate milk shake
ReplyDeleteI've never had Peeps or lots of classic American candies. My husband always makes fun of me! I grew up with hippie parents, what can I say :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've been a vegetarian for 8 years, so there are prolly many a great American dish that I have not eaten lol
I've never had a Big Mac either...or a Whopper.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe there is a person that's never had a hot dog! WOW! One of my favorite foods!
ReplyDeletePLEASE give me that big mac NOWWW...*mouth watering*
ReplyDeletesigned,
hungry preggo lady
I've never had a Big Mac, either. We grew up in rural Alaska and NEVER had fast food (it was 200 miles away. . .). What perhaps bugs my husband more than that now that I live in the "real" United States is that I've never seen most cartoons. He thinks it's insane to never have seen TMNT or Scooby Doo. . .
ReplyDeleteNew follower here - I love your blog! I KNOW there has to be something typical American that I haven't tried, but I'm not quite through my first cup of coffee yet this morning so I'm a little slow.
ReplyDeleteActually, though, in my 35 years the first time I had a Big Mac was like maybe a couple of years ago, so you're not doing too bad ;-)
I caught on to your blog through Design Dazzle yesterday. Your son's nursery is AMAZING!!! I'm in the process of re-doing my babies room, so many options, I want to do it all!
I had never tried a Big Mac until I was 30! However, I've never, ever even tried tuna fish!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac! I don't know that I ever will either. But I'm not a big fast food eater (also un-American).
ReplyDeleteI too have never eaten a Big Mac. Nor do I feel like I will. Now a mustard Whopper on the other hand...yum!
ReplyDeleteWell up until my 3rd year of college I had never seen The Princess Bride and apparently that deemed me the title of "not eve a woman." That oh so special sauce is really just thousand island, so you can kinda make your own next time!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried tuna fish, chicken salad, or egg salad. Pretty much anything of that consistency I won't even try. And I've never tried meatloaf.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac - probably has something to do with I haven't had a hamburger since I was in middle school, well before my appetite could devour a Big Mac :) My husband has probably eaten everything, but he he hates lasagna, which I think is un-American ... plus, there is an every growing list of must-see before you die movies that he has not seen (Scarface, Godfather, any and all Disney movies excluding Lion King). Deprived child I tell you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with many of your readers, I've never had a Big Mac. I'm willing to bet that most women have not. They are too BIG! I'm pretty well-eaten in everything else, though.
ReplyDeleteI'll eat anything once. Would be a great reality show contestant. So...I've got nothing. However, when I worked at a day care I had to twist the arm of a girl going into 6th grade to try her first ORANGE. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac either...but I also have not eaten red meat since I was in 3rd grade..that is probably even more un-american. haha!
ReplyDeleteHmm I can't really think of anything I haven't tried...I'll usually give anything a chance (and spit it into a napkin if it's gross). However I don't like fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, hot dogs, watermelon, greens, prettymuch any kind of picnic food or southern cookin. And I was raised in the South! I have been accused of being unamerican many times. ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't do the whole coffee thing. I will just get hot chocolate or water when we go to a coffee house.
ReplyDeleteI am also fairly new to your blog. Got introduced to it through MC when you were Reader of the Month. Love your blog and watching your Weebie! :)
I've never had a Big Mac or a Whopper. And I've never eaten at KFC.
ReplyDeleteAnd gravy - like the kind you put on your turkey and mashed potatoes? I've never had that.
Never had a Big Mac here either. Ugh. That "special sauce" really turns me off! Other things I will NEVER try - ranch dressing, mayonnaise, eggs, etc. The list goes on!! I have a horrid gag reflex and just thinking of eating those things (not to mention the smell of them) makes me want to spontaneously vomit!! So you are doing way better than me!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog BTW! :)
My first big mac was on my honeymoon. Joey couldn't believe I had never tried one and made me eat it. It was good, but I don't think I've had one since. Jonah, however, tried one a few weeks ago and loved it.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a big mac either!!
ReplyDeleteNever had a big mac. I'm not a fan of fast food in general which is most likely super un-american.
ReplyDeleteI am going to admit it - I love a good, hot big mac. So gross! So yummy!
ReplyDeleteI have never, ever had a big mac. That is a lot of food. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with a lot of the responders here - I've never had a Big Mac either! But, I don't really like fast food in general.
ReplyDeleteI'm also Southern and get made fun of all the time because I despise sweet tea.
I have never had a Big Mac! Congrats on enjoying yours! I have actually never liked the burgers from McDs, so I probably won't be trying one anytime soon!
ReplyDeleteI used to love their salad shakers.....I wish they still had them!
I've never had grits, but since I live in the Northeast, that hasn't posed much of a problem. My dad, however, had NEVER had ketchup. And since he's moving in on 60, he's not willing to even try it since he doesn't want to break his "record"! Dads, you've gotta love 'em.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have never had a Big Mac. Or a Whopper for that matter.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a Big Mac either...
ReplyDeleteThe most American thing I've never had - probably a Twinkie.
I have gone 32 years with out trying a Big Mac, Whopper, patty melt or pork rinds. I did finally try a gyro a few years ago, so sad I missed out on that for so long!
ReplyDeleteNope...never had one either! Or meatloaf....blahhhh. I'm just not a huge fan of meat!
ReplyDeleteApparently I also fall in the category of unamerican! I'm definitely a "one patty" kind of girl too, but your experience has maybe opened the door a crack.
ReplyDeleteSo the next time I eat fast food maybe I will try a Big Mac.
I have never had a Big Mac! I was like you...2 patties, 3 pieces of bread...no way! Ha! I don't think I'll try it now either.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a big mac either, or any burger from burger king.
ReplyDeleteSee - lots of us havent had one! I prefer the McDouble because its smaller, cheaper.. and my boyfriend gets the big mac sauce with that!
That's fantastic! I've never had a BigMac either. Maybe I should try one, but maybe I should't - I might like it too much! ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, I've never had a Big Mac OR a Whopper... they just look gross to me. I'm a chicken kind of girl. =]
ReplyDeletehaha- I have never had a Big Mac either. I guess I am going to have to go try one now :)
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything common that I've ever eaten, though I'm sure there's something. My husband, on the other had, was so sheltered when it comes to food! Before we met he had never had apple pie, pumpkin pie or cheesecake (among many other things I just can't think of right now)!

ReplyDeleteI do not eat ranch dressing, and have never had a Big Mac either!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had one either and I'm proud of it! Don't doubt that it tasted mighty good though.
ReplyDeleteTaco Bell, oh, and I've never had a Big Mac, either.
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious!! I've never had a Big Mac either, but I love the double cheeseburger and those sesame seeds! Pregnancy craving calling!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac either...it seems to be a trend among the comments here!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac, either. That's probably about ALL that's considered "American" food that I haven't eaten!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac either, but it seems like alot of the people commenting haven't either. I'm just not big on McDonalds though-well unless it's their fries. Those are super yummy!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac, or a big enough bite of a steak to actually be able to taste it.
ReplyDeleteI had the same thing said to me when I told my Finacee that I never had a Whopper or a Big Mac. He of course had a Big Mac, but never a Whopper..so we decided today was the day. We went...we eat...we hated!! So I am not a fan of the Whopper..because of this I haven't gotten the courage to try a Big Mac, but now..you may have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteI dated a guy once who was 26 and had never had chicken and dumplings. He grew up in GA and had never tasted it. So of course the first time I cooked for him I definitely made him chicken and dumplings and even if he didn't really like it, he said he did so I was happy...haha
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac either... a Quarter Pounder with cheese, yes, but a Big Mac, no. I also haven't (well, don't recall) ever having apple pie because I have a strong aversion to cinnamon and I'm not a big fan of cooked fruit... so I guess I can extend that list to all pies with cooked fruit. I'm a pecan or buttermilk pie kinda girl.
ReplyDeleteNot only have I never had a Big Mac, but I've never had a cheeseburger.
ReplyDeleteWhen I find something I like, I stick with it. I like plain hamburgers in a bun--no toppings or anything else...just meat and bun. I've never really expanded beyond that and cannot even fathom eating a Big Mac thing.

I'm Australian, and even I'm more American then you :)
ReplyDeletei have never eaten a big mac and a lot of other things too! good for you for stepping out!
ReplyDeleteInteresting...
ReplyDeleteThat guy never tried a sugar cookie?! Wow.
I've never had Dr. Pepper. Everyone is horrified when they hear this for some reason...
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Big Mac either, but I'm pretty un-American anyway, being a Canadian. I haven't tried most fruit. I have myself convinced I don't like any of it.
