Just When You Think You've Got It All Figured Out....

Something I have discovered about this wonderful journey of Motherhood is that it is ever changing. When one thing is mastered, they move on to a new challenge. When one routine is established, they change it up a few weeks later. Communication changes. Naps change. Meals change. Preferences change. Everything is constantly moving and evolving into something new. Not only does this little phenomenon keep life interesting and exciting (never a dull moment), but it can also bring a bit of confusion. It also demands creativity and forced (extra) energy!

Levi has begun to have preferences.

This is a whole new world for me because the Little Love has always gone with the flow with whatever activity was going on and whatever food was on the table. While he is still a dream boat with whatever activity is going on, meal time is not the same scenario.

Weebie Boy has always happily eaten whatever food I have given him. But over the past week or so, I think new taste buds popped up and those little bad boys are certainly demanding. He is officially "done" with baby food and gobbles up "big boy food" well ... like a big boy! We are in the stage of figuring out the things that work and the things that don't. When Levi likes a food, he LOVES a food. When he doesn't like a food, don't even try. His tongue will come thrusting out of this mouth and you can not pry those little lips apart. His current favorites are yogurt, cheese, most all fruit, green beans, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes (most steamed veggies), chicken, pasta and bread. These are the things that he feeds himself with no problems, but he also loves to have bites of whatever his Daddy and I are eating.

This whole new world of self feeding and eating what we eat is so much fun. Though there is a lot of trial and error with certain foods, I feel like with each change we go through with him life becomes so much easier. He is becoming such a big boy and it's just amazing to witness the changes and the stages.

Something that I have set out from the very beginning in Motherhood is to be flexible. Levi's preferences are changing, his nap needs are changing, his activity is changing and his communication is changing with new words all the time. He is just an ever changing, ever growing little boy and I hope I'm making each transition as easy and as fluid for him as I can.

After all, it has to be frustrating for THEM to have it all figured out and then hit a growth spurt and their little world's turn upside down. Poor babies! Just imagine what their little bodies and minds are going through - growing at rapid speed.

I just want to encourage other Mommy's out there if you're battling "figuring out" your child's needs in whatever stage they are in. Just go with the flow, try new things and don't be pressured! We all are going through the same things together as Mommy's, so take heart in knowing that there is a little "club" of us out there seeking and giving wise advice as needed. Make each stage the absolute best it can be by giving your child your complete devotion. Trial and error is inevitable and without it we would never find success! My advice in my short 10 months of being a Mommy (to a baby outside the womb) is ...

1. Be flexible.
2. Laugh things off.
3. Consistency.
4. Lots and LOTS of love, cuddles and kisses.
5. Be still and enjoy this stage.

As magical and dreamy as ALL of Weebie's months of life have been, ten months has been my favorite. But of course, we'll see what next month brings.

Happy Mommying, Friends! We're all in this together; let us always encourage and unite! :)

  2. You forgot persistence! I'll tell you, one day my boy will just LOVE a certain food and not be able to get enough. Then, the next day, it's horrible and I must be trying to poison him. He goes into theatrics with making faces and gagging and the whole bit. Sometimes he will even swing from those extremes in one meal!

Toddler eating is something else. I miss my good eater who ate pretty much anything he was offered.

  3. Oh my goodness, the ever-changing food preferences is our biggest problem! My boys are 10 months (with no teeth!) and one will eat just about anything, but the other only eats yogurt & whatever adult food I'm eating! Not too good for his baby digestive system!

I agree with Miss M, persistence is key!

  4. Sounds like he is at least wanting to eat all the right stuff. You don't have to worry about that for now :)

And its very important that he sees you and his dad eat, especially good things AND enjoy them, because that will be where a lot of his preferences will come from.
