Last week, we went to a giant Fall Festival/Craft Fair in the neighboring state. It was so much fun! There was tent after tent of wonderfully unique goods and the atmosphere was gorgeous! It's set way out in the country in a massive field. With the leaves changing and the cool breeze of Autumn, it made for a beautifully fun-tastic day!
On the property is a fabulous Mill House dating back to 1832, where they grind their own flour, cornmeal, baking mixes, etc. It is wonderful! Not only is it gorgeous, but it takes you back to the good old days. To simpler times. Oh, I loved it. (Pictured below)

While there, I snatched up some goods for myself!

Now, if that's not the CUTEST sacks of cornmeal and baking mixes, then I don't know what is. Oh, how I wish we still bagged flour this way. I may or may not have picked out which mixes I wanted based on the print. Don't judge me.

I am the type of girl who wishes we still wore fancy dresses simply when going into town. I would have thrived in that era! I long for the cease of jeans and tees and the rise of dresses and hats. I wish corporate America would fall and the small Mom and Pop shops would thrive once again. As much as I love the World Wide Web, I long for the days before it existed and people visited on their porches rather than on Facebook. I love horses, carriages, farm houses with wrap around patios, town meetings, grocery stores that carry only groceries and not every other frivolous item one may need (rather, want).
Oh, the good old days. I never knew you, but how I wish you'd return.
But in the mean time, I will take my cute flour sacks, throw on my retro apron and bake for my two Lovies, relishing in the days that we have. The good days of now.

I posted something just yesterday that echoes your sentiments almost exactly!

Let's not forget, though, washing the clothes by hand, no dishwashers, no microwave, your Mumsy would be miles away and you wouldn't talk to her or see her for days, maybe weeks, I'm just saying. We have to take the bad with the good. Love you. Can't wait to see you and your home and Lovie soon.
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand what you mean. I love the late 50s early 60s, with soda shops, headbands (which I still wear), big hair (sometimes I wear), and dresses everyday!!
ReplyDeleteYour ingredient bags are adorable!!:) They get my mind moving for Christmas presents! Thank you for sharing!
You have just explained my thoughts exactly! I always say I was born in the wrong era. I thought I was the only young woman who thought that way! Nice to see that I'm not! Those bags are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute!! And sounds like lots of fun!!
ReplyDeleteThose baking mixes are adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh I love them! Are you going to keep them to make something with? I know my Grandma had a bunch of things made out of old flour sacks!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I also long for more simple times! That first picture is beautiful! What kind of camera do you use? I'm looking for a new one!
ReplyDeleteI think I would have done good in that era too! I would love the fall of corporate as well!
ReplyDeleteCute sacks though!
I agree with you Whitney...I would love to have those days back. Since I'm a lot older than you, I remember when we walked everywhere or took the bus...we never had a car. Times were tough, but we had love!
ReplyDeleteHugz,
Michele
I love for those days too!!!
ReplyDeleteI should have been born 100 years earlier :)
I went to a place like that with my grandparents a few years ago. I loved seeing how things used to be, but I was kind of sad to think of how much things have changed.
ReplyDeleteTechnology can be a good thing though because my Granny tells of the days when she washed clothes by hand, didn't have a dryer, etc. That makes me thankful for the things we have today.
I do agree about Facebook. Face to face communication is becoming rare these days.
Oh I so agree on that! My husband and I were saying the same thing the other day! I blogged about it here: http://abbyscraft.blogspot.com/2009/10/one-of-my-favorite-things-to-win-on.html
ReplyDeleteAnd to one of nettie's girls, I've washed clothes by hand in the bathtub, I grew up without a dishwasher, and I could live w/o a microwave. It's totally do able! And families stayed living fairly close together.
It's very fun to see all your readers comments who think they were born in the wrong era!!
BTW- can we get a Maxwell update please?
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to War Eagle! I'm going to have to go next time! Those mixes are adorable.

I love the picture of the barn but that seems to be the only picture I can see since the others are in flicker - I wonder why I can't see them in flicker - hmmm... may have to try at home instead. :o)
ReplyDeleteI always wish that there was a time machine that could take you back to days of yore, and then back to present time. It'd make for KILLER vacations as well as a deeper appreciation for A) what we have now and B) what those people went through!
ReplyDeleteAnd, once you bake something yummy, send some this way! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe should start our own "Good Ol' Days" town. :D
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, that packaging is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteis that War Eagle?! I used to go there every year with my parents! They still go but I haven't been in years. I remember that old mill, and the bridge. My dad is deathly afraid of heights and it was so hard for him to cross it, it made me scared of heights too! haha.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously taking off work to go with you next year! I love the flour/baking mixes. So cute.
ReplyDeleteI want to go to this festival sometime!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know anyone else felt that way about the Good Ol' Days. It was a great read. It gave me a warm, cozy feeling. Yes, it's good to have a good imagination because it helps to think back and use it as a relaxation exercise.
