A Mini Getaway.

Remember the little getaway I mentioned last week? Well, Friday night, Husby and I loaded up and headed two hours into the next state. There, we ate at one of our favorite little eateries that we stumbled upon years ago while passing through.

Here, at this classic old time diner, they serve the best french dip sandwich!

After our late dinner at the diner, we ventured over to an Irish donut shoppe, that we discovered on the same "passing-through" trip years earlier. This place is amazing because their hours are 6PM - 11AM. Open all night, baby!

We snagged these:

They. Were. Incredible. See the big round one with the white stuff on top? Well, it was a cream cheese donut, and I am not lying when I say I DREAMED about it Friday night. It was absolutely insanely fabulous. Mmmm.

The next morning, we got up bright and early and headed to the train station. Here, we boarded an antique classic train from the 1920's. It was remolded and refurbished to be exactly like it was back in it's prime. It took us on a three hour ride throughout the state, winding in and out of the Boston mountains. We were able to see some beautiful fall foliage. It was SO much fun.

They served us lunch on board, and we sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the ride.

We drove through this tunnel and it was pitch black for like 30 seconds. You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face!

I saw a gorgeous tree in the distance, and tried my hardest to snap a pic as we flew by. This was the best I could do. The tree was half vibrant red, and half brilliant purple. It was so pretty.

We also saw drove through some very old towns, and saw some pretty cool buildings. The second one was made famous by a movie...I just forgot what one, though. :)

On our way back, Husby and I spotted this HILARIOUS kid who was completely mesmerized by our train. I had to take his picture. He stood like this and waved for about 10 minutes - even while we were at a complete stop. So funny.

At the end of the ride, they gave us a commemorative photo! So fun!

After our train pulled back into town, we explored a little of the old community around us. Again, some beautiful buildings.

We topped off the afternoon with a movie and a late dinner at a local Spanish restaurant. It was GREAT! Here are some food photos (taken by my phone - sorry for the quality).

This salsa was ammmmazing.

Check out how our guacamole came! So fun.

My burrito was almost too pretty to eat. I said almost.

We rolled in late Saturday night, and went straight to bed. It was a delightful little getaway with my sweet, sweet Husby.

  5. It looked as though you had a fun time. I do have to say I am not sure how you stay so skinny cause if ate like you I would be 400lbs. All the food looked amazing!!! My hubby and I went on a baby-moon to Mexico when I was 4 months pregnant and it was a blast so if you do get a chance to plan a big trip go somewhere tropical to soak up some sun before little Lovie comes. Glad to see all is still well.

  25. to answer your question-There is a lady at church that loves baby feet and so she always takes her socks off so she can touch her feet, but then she leaves her socks off. Well that was fine in the summer but now that it is freezing outside it is really annoying me! The other night I went back to where one of the youth was holding her and she didn't have socks on and the girl told me that that lady had taken them off and I had had enough so I grabbed her socks and said, "No, I want her to wear them, it is cold." The lady says well, it's warm in here and I wanted to say, "you take your shoes and socks off and see if you're still warm!" Sorry for ranting...I just get so frustrated with people sometimes. You will see after you have your baby that everyone wants to tell you how to raise your baby and it is so annoying!

  26. You were at my HOME!!!! Ed Walkers and Irish Maid, baby...so funny that you love them. Although i have to say that they are located in the most disgusting area of our entire town, so please do not judge The Fort on that. :) Were you eating at Rolandos???

  27. That week-end getaway looks like my type of week-end. Also, the food looks amazing. Were you actually able to eat it? Are you able to do the give-aways by having adds on your blog?

  28. I think I'm going to see the midnight showing of Twilight, just to be part of the buzz and excitement.

Lee does sound good, but Scott is even better! Plus, it's my actual middle name. Feel free to use it as a middle name for any of your future children--boys or girls. ;)
