Frozen Moments

Do you ever have moments that you wish were captured somehow, whether in a picture or a video, so that you could relive it any time you wanted?

I often rewind my favorite scenes of life in my head, and while I am so glad I have those precious memories to play whenever I want, I often wish I had a clearer grasp of it. Like a picture.

Husby and I have so much fun together. So. Much. Fun. I think it’s because we were best friends before ever dating, so we just always have that built-in-friendship. When we were dating, he often came up with the craziest, most creative dates for us, and it just made every moment with him an unpredictable blast. I am so glad I took so many pictures back in the day, because I am able to reflect on and laugh at them, whenever I want. It’s great. I need to pull out some of those old crazy-date photos and share some funny stories with you.

You would get a kick out of our antics.

I was going through some old pictures the other day and stumbled upon some that took me back, as if I was instantly transported to that exact day and time. I remember it vividly.

Husby and I were in college and we were dating. We were home for the weekend (our hometown where both our parents live), and I was at his house on a Saturday afternoon. We were goofing off in his room, looking up a movie to go see later that night. I found a blue bucket hat lying on his floor and put it on.

He told me I looked cute.

I laughed and told him the hat was ridiculous, and began to tease him for even having it.

We settled on a movie, but it didn’t start for a few more hours, so we decided to go in the backyard and enjoy the beautiful day. His parents put up a new hammock and I was in love with it.

I had always wanted a hammock.

I jumped on it with his bucket hat still on, swinging to and fro and soaking up the sun. He ran inside to grab the camera.

We loved playing with the timer on his camera so that we could get lots of pictures of us together. He timed the first one perfectly and we ended up with this:

Then, he decided that we would BOTH sit on the hammock for the next shot. I gave him a doubtful look, but scooted over anyway. He set the camera up, ran and jumped beside me, and we sat smiling, waiting for the flash.

5….4…..3…..2…..

***SPLAT***

The hammock broke RIGHT when the camera went off, and we what you see here is an authentically genuine and real photograph of our reactions. We were DYING laughing.

Something that really cracks me up about this picture is that Husby continued to look at the camera. And the bucket hat flew down past my eyes, and I was just struggling to see. Oh, so funny.

I bet his parents were furious at us for breaking the new hammock.

We set out to get a cute (but posed) picture of the two of us swinging on a hammock, and instead we ended up with a classic moment frozen in time forever.

I love it.

  2. It's great you have the picture...mine's only in my mind..years ago I had fixed my hubby and me a cool drink..he sat down in the hammock and held the drinks while I sat down beside him..we sat and sipped and laughed and, you guessed it, DOWN WE WENT..didn't spill a drop..got up, tied it back up securely (?)and got back in...CRASH...again we fell, nearly on the dog, without spilling a drop..decided we wouldn't go for three times so got up and sat on the deck. We had almost 39 years together before I lost him to cancer 12 years ago and I forever have those moments to cherish..HE ALWAYS MADE ME LAUGH!!

(o: You should blow up the broken hammock picture and frame it (if it's not already) and remember that moment for when you're old and wrinkly!

You guys are like the CUTEST together. I can't wait to see you sweet baby - it will probably have the greatest smile ever! (o:

  21. That really is hilarious. I'm laughing at you right now!

When I was in 5th grade or so, a bunch of us girls were over at a friend's house who had a hammock. We were taking turns jumping into it as it was swinging back and forth. I totally timed my jump wrong and sailed right over the thing as it swung toward me. I landed belly-down in the dirt and knocked the wind out of myself. Not cool.
