Pictures....ugh.

One year ago next week, I started my job here. It was that week that I got my picture taken for our website. It was that week that I screamed in horror and anguish over what my picture turned out like. Oh, it was bad.

You see, I was born a natural redhead. There are many perks to being a redhead since only seven percent of the whole world is made up of us. The Few. The Proud. The Redheads. Okay, so we may not be quite as important as the Marines, but in my mind, we most definitely are. Along with being a true redhead comes very, very, very pale skin. So pale in fact, that we are almost translucent. It’s true. You can see my veins every now and then. And if you look close enough, you can see the faint beating of my heart. I kid, I kid.

(WHITE GIRL....SEE?)

I have always embraced my porcelain covering and stayed far away from the harsh and damaging sun. I do remember being in the fifth grade and wishing my face wasn’t so washed out. I was not yet to the age of wearing makeup, so I would bury my head in my arms at my desk and hold my breath, hoping to bring a natural flush to my face. Of course, it only lasted a few seconds, and I nearly passed out once from doing it so much. I was a strange child, to say the least, but that is a whole other story.

So, the day that I was to have my picture taken (unbeknownst to me), I happened to wear a cream colored shirt. Cream on ghost white is not the most flattering choice. Needless to say, I look completely weird in my picture (on the website for the world to see). You can’t even tell where my shirt sleeve ends and my arm begins. I begged for a retake, but apparently that is offensive to the camera man and I had to live with it. I pretended it wasn’t even there.

Then yesterday, an angel of the Lord came down from Heaven and told my co-worker that we needed our pictures updated on the website! She scheduled re-takes for 9am, and I am sitting here anxiously awaiting and practicing my smile. I happen to be wearing dark green today – a great choice for carrot tops. Let’s hope and pray this round goes better than the last!

I will keep you updated, and if I like the new picture, I will post the “before” and “after”. But only if I like it.

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  3. You certainly seem to be getting the hang of it! Perhaps you can show me a few things! :)
I'm thinking of doing the high school story in installments on Wednesdays. We'll see. My life is just full of juicy stuff to write about these days. Or is that not coming across? :)

  4. Love the blog, Whitney! We also had to take ID pics at the school, and I FORCED the mean old picture lady to redo mine. It was awful! I like the new one though.

Can we all start an I'm-working-till-mommy-hood-finally-comes club?!? ;)
