Magic Eye.

Do you guys remember those Magic Eye pictures from the 90's?  You know, the ones that looked like hundreds of random dots and lines, but if you looked at it a certain way an amazing 3D image suddenly popped out at you?  Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved them!  My brother had several poster sized ones framed and hanging in his room, and I could stand and stare at them forever.

I just remembered them last weekend and Husby and I got to talking about the Magic Eye craze and how you never hear about them anymore.  It's so strange to me how there are "fads", and something can be all the rage one year and totally out the next.  So bizarre! I mean, do billions of people just stop liking stuff all at the same time?

Even food is faddish these days.  Anyone noticing the pretzel craze happening right now?  Pretzel hotdog buns, pretzel burger buns, pretzel chips, pretzel crust ... it's like pretzels have just been invented!  It's so funny to me.

I actually heard someone say the other day that cupcakes are totally "out" and that donuts are "in".

Who knew?

I'm sorry, but any kind of cake will always be "in" in my book.  ;)

It also weirds me out how colors go in and out of style.  I mean, they're colors!  They've always been around and it's not like there are any new colors floating around out there that we've yet to discover.  I can't wrap my mind around how colors go in and out.  Except neon.  I'll forever associate neon with the 80's and no one can ever convince me otherwise.

Some things should be forever left in the 80's.  Neon, crimped hair, and hammer pants.  Let's leave scrunchies there, too, while we're at it.

Anyway, back to the magic eye.  Husby can't see them!  He has never seen one in his entire life because he can't train his eyes/brain to do it.  It makes me crazy knowing that he has never seen one!  I totally freaked out when he told me this little factoid about himself and I racked my brain trying to come up with a way that I could make him see it.  How can he not?!  I thought everyone could see them! He's missing out on the magic eye fabulousness, and it really bugs me!  He's got to see!

Do you remember these?  Can you see them?

Let's bring back the craze!

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I can't see them either. I had several surgeries on my eyes because I was born cross -eyed and that was the side effect. I didn't know that until I was much older so I spent years staring into those things and being so frustrated. Poor me! :)

  2. I love magic eye pictures! I can see them really easily, but my husband can't so he has never seen one either. My Mum bought me a book of them for Christmas a couple of years ago and I had great fun with it! In fact, I may have to go and get it off my bookself again now! It will be interesting to see if any of our children will be able to see them.

  3. I don't know if I just didn't try hard enough but I don't remember seeing them either. But yes, the pretzel fad is kind of funny-tasty though so I'm all for it!

  4. I have never been able to see them and I remember trying a lot as a kid. I had bad eyesight, though, so I had to wear either glasses or contacts. I think that makes a difference....

  5. I can't see them, either! I was always so upset during break times at school when all the other kids could see the cool images and I couldn't.

  6. I've never been able to see them either. Never once in my life have I ever ever seen one. My husband can see them in about 3 seconds, every time, but I cannot. It's so frustrating!

  7. I've never been able to see them either. When I was a kid and first came across them I thought it was a big joke, people talking about seeing things pop out at them. I soon realized it was just a joke on me because no matter what I did, how I stood, what I did with my eyes, I could not see anything but the picture in front of me.
Oh, and Hammer pants, apparently a new fad that is starting is called Harem pants. They are the same thing as Hammer pants. I've been seeing them all over the internet and blogs lately. They look just as ridiculous as they did in the 80's!

  9. My sister and I had never seen them either until one day at the mall, her daughter who was 3 years old at the time, started laughing and pointed to one in a window. Astonished, we asked her what she saw and she replied, "Fish". We asked her how she did it and she said she made her eyes "sleepy". So, I tried looking at it with "sleepy" (unfocused) eyes and sure enough it was a picture of dolphins!
She's turning 25 this Saturday and I'm still amazed that she was able to break the code and enable us to see them as a toddler!

  10. I can't see them either! I tried all the tricks and I just never could we had a book that had a bunch in them and the "answers" were in the back except for 2 mystery pages I still don't know what were on those pages. So sad for us!

Also we decided to come up to the Tulsa fair, even though we went to the OK state fair two weeks ago so I came back to look at your food post :)

  12. I can't see them either. Oh, and my niece recently told me scrunchies are becoming a thing again. Do you remember when bell bottoms were big in the 90's, and all of our mothers scrunched their noses at them because it reminded them of their old ridiculous 70's clothes? Slowly but surely, we are all turning into our mothers :)

  13. I loved those things but I had to start with my nose on the poster and walk backwards as I blinked rapidly. I'm sure I looked super awesome doing that.
