Remember when I used to blog?
Yeah, that was fun.
I don't know what happened except for ... well, life! My posts have been so sporadic lately simply because I'm blogging when I can. And that isn't as often as I'd like, but it is as often as I'm capable. I know y'all understand. You all are busily living life, too, I'm sure.
Sometimes I crave writing. I get in moods where all I want to do is blog, journal, write, create. I blog at night after the boys are in bed, so typically these moods strike then - when the day has ended, the house is asleep, and silence floods our space. That is when my mind comes to life.
And then there are times when I want to crash on the couch and not touch a pen or a keyboard. I just want to rest, watch mindless television, read senseless magazines and just be.
And of course, there are the inevitable nights when we're go-go-going until bedtime and there's barely enough time to change into jammies, let alone make time to document this busy life we are living.
Since blogging is just that - a documentation of life, it's going to mirror it, too. Some weeks will be slow and still. Others will be quick and chaotic. Some weeks I'll blog daily - other weeks I won't at all. I'm just happy to know it's always there and so are its' readers ... because I love hearing from you people! :)
I remember back before kids if I went a day without blogging (weekends excluded) it was a big deal. I rarely ever missed a day. I love that I can go back and read about those days and that they are forever documented. I love that! Because I truly think I would not have remembered 87% of those days. And even though I wish I could continue with that pace, my life now is so much different now than it was then. And though it's busier, it's more FULL. And I love that even more.
At the same time, I am passionate about documenting life. I've kept journals since I was a young child. I love it. I will do it for as long as I can, because the memories locked into words are absolutely invaluable to me. I realize that it's not for everyone - but I've always been very nostalgic when it comes to my family and our memories, and mostly for me, blogging (and personal journals kept for/about each of our children) is the best way to do that. There's just not always time for it! I need more hours! More hours in my days! ... except for the days Husby works a 24hr shift. Those can stay just the same. :)
I guess what I'm trying to say is that with life, and it's constant changing ... blogging will, too. I'm trying to do my best to juggle it all, but if somethings gotta give, computer time will always be that thing. My kids are only little once, and these days are the days I will forever cherish! I'm just trying to do my best living it AND remembering it!
When do you find time for blogging?
{For fellow "life bloggers" out there} : Do you find it tough to balance simply living life and also sufficiently documenting the things you want?
Yeah, that was fun.

I touched a little on this today and last week, too, when talking about our summer. Blogging has been placed last on my list of priorities, but I still love it. It's just not the most important. :)
ReplyDeleteI do some planning for the blog during nap time, but a lot of the writing comes at night when I can focus on it. It sometimes means I stay up way too late at night {especially now since I've been blogging more regularly and am trying to get more creative with it}. It's a balance though because while I love looking back at all the pictures I've taken {I take far more pictures than end up making it to my blog}, I don't want to get so caught up in capturing the moments on my camera that I miss out on just being in the moment with the ones I love most. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog for the very reason you blog about life if and when you can. You don't blog every day for the sake of keeping readers but you're actually out living life and spending valuable time with your boys - which makes your posts so much more fun to read!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with this sometimes too... mainly when times are busy. But like you, I treasure the memories I have in writing so I try to make it a priority to write about the biggies. For me, I blog 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I'm able to do a little before the boys wake up in the morning. Sometimes it's during naptime. Sometimes it's while they're busy playing independently, and occassionally it's in the evenings. (Although I try to save the evenings for time with my hubby.) I guess for me it's a balance between hobby and commitment. =)
ReplyDeleteMy blog has all but dropped off completely since having Lydia. I have found that while I often feel like I am lacking blog inspiration, my content need only be what I am experiencing at that moment. A nutty morning followed by an attitude change is a lot more relatable to my readers than some of my more thought-out posts! I blog when I can and that's that. Like, for instance, right now, Lydia is dragging her suitcase through the house and Naomi just dumped glitter on the table. Check, please? :)
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blogs!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is one of my favorites and I was just thinking of you the other day! Hope that doesn't sound too weird since we have never spoke. :) I was just hoping everything was alright since it had been pretty quiet here for awhile! It sounds like you have the right idea -- focus on your husband and your boys when you can. Blogging will always be here!
ReplyDeleteAh this is so true! As much as I truly love blogging and taking pictures and sharing on social media, I just usually don't have time to do it all on a real-time basis. Case in point I'm always at least a month behind on my blog. But the memories get there eventually, when I find time for it :)
ReplyDeleteI was talking with a group of bloggers last week about my biggest beef with blogging - the impermanence. All of us in the blogging world put a lot of heart and soul into our writing and projects and recipes and what not, only to find them vanish after a couple of weeks. blog
