1. For Levi to always know, without a shadow of a doubt, how deeply he is loved.
2. To live my life so that when Levi sees me, he sees Christ.
3. To reflect a picture of an ever growing, healthy, fun and exciting marriage relationship, so that Levi will always have that security and grow to find his own like relationship.
4. To approach discipline and valleys in parenting with love, patience and self control.
5. To never go a day without bathing my Levi in prayer.
6. To realize (and turn from) my mistakes and never be too proud to apologize to Levi when I am obviously in the wrong.
7. To never make decisions immediately, but instead, seek sound wisdom and lay it before the throne of God.
8. To give Levi all of me, every day. To never "breeze through" another day, but to make the most of every minute.
9. To create memories, tradition, and a childhood that he will think back on as some of his favorite times.
10. To give Levi a solid, firm, unshakable understanding of Christ - so that he will know God and make Him known.
When I am 50 and I look back on my life and the life of my child(ren), I hope that I can check every single one of these off of my list. I know that I will fail time and again in achieving these every single day, but I will try my hardest to make them consistent in my journey. These are the things most important to me as a mother. These are the things that matter to me. These are the things for which I earnestly pray.

ReplyDeleteI mean Teach
ReplyDeleteI want to be more like you Whitney. And I'm so not joking about that in anyway. You inspire me!

ReplyDeleteWow Whitney-you floor me! I wish that every mother out their had these same exact goals in their life!!
ReplyDeleteIf God ever blesses me with a child- I hope that I can do the EXACT same things that you have stated on your list!
You inspire me also, to be a better person! To love my Lord more, to love my husband more, and to be a better housewife:)
(I deleated my earlier post because I realize I forgot to capitalize God!)
What a great list Whitney!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great list! One of my big goals is to teach Monkey Mae acceptance and understanding of lifestyles different than her own.
ReplyDeleteThis is great, Whitney. I echo everything you wrote and on my own list I would probably add "To kick back and have fun!" I want there to be resounding laughter in our house. There already is, which is great, and I want to make sure that we keep the proper perspective and remember to laugh a lot together. Life's too short to stifle joy.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound cheesy, but my most frequent prayer is, "Please let me open my eyes to see the light of Christ in each person I encounter." In that I mean that I want to not be judgmental, have patience, and recognize the good in all people. There is nothing that makes me sadder than when someone argues that humanity is inherently evil. I won't believe it!
ReplyDeleteGood list. Levi is a lucky boy to have been born to such good parents that love him so much.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you cover your baby in prayer and I LOVE that...I spend the majority of my prayer life just washing my babies in it. I think it's the MOST important thing ever...God is probably like, LORI - let up woman...I get it already! Hehe...Amen Whitney!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful goals! I'll have to put some thought into mine :)
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful!!! so inspiring as well :)
ReplyDeleteI love what you said about developing traditions and creating a childhood that he can look back on with fondness - what a gift.
ReplyDeleteI know I desire many, if not all, of the same things for my little boy as well. I hope my son learns to have grace for others because of experiencing God's grace in His own life. And I hope he knows of this grace because of my life, my story and how I've been a mom too.
THanks for sharing this. Great things to think about, especially as new moms.
What wonderful aims! And, you are already doing these things so very well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post
ReplyDeleteI want to give Haley the tools she needs to be independent, and the love she needs to have a place to land when she falls, and a place she wants to come back to.
wow what a lovely post~ you sound like such a great mom.. what wonderful goals!
ReplyDeleteI left you a little something on my blog!
Great list, Whit! I would suggest you print this out and hang it somewhere to remind yourself daily of your goals. But, then, I'm a list-maker and maybe you're not. :)
ReplyDeleteWise woman! Your children are blessed to have you as their mother :)
ReplyDeleteI want to live every moment, to love through it all, to not freak out when I make mistakes (I'm a little OCD) and most importantly to trust God to help me to make the right choices. If I'm not careful I can become paralyzed with fear that I'm not doing something right - I'm learning to relax and let God truly lead me. Thanks for this post - it says what so many of us want for our own lives.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this post so so much! What beautiful goals for raising your child! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's very touching that you said to never go a day with lifting Levi up in prayer! Amazing! May the Lord bless you!

A wonderful post, and full of wisdom. It's great that you've considered all this at the outset. Reading it made me wish it could be taught in parenting classes in schools. Especially the one about not making rash decisions, and laying everything before God.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I just ran across your blog through LPM. It's a great list.
