Roller Coaster

That is what my day was. Oh gracious sakes, it was a doozy!

Last night as Husby and I laid on the couch eating supper, I said, "Hey, you better throw some things in my hospital bag...ya know, just in case."

He said, "Do you plan on taking it with you to your appointment tomorrow?"

I said, "No...but...you just never know what they'll say."

He thought I was crazy, but went ahead and threw his things in there. I charged the camera and threw it in my purse.

Ya know, just in case.

My appointment rolled around this morning and it was set for 11:15. As Husby and I walked into the office, we passed my Doctor in the hall and she yelled, "hey guys! I'm going to deliver a baby, but I'll be right back." We settled into our seats and waited for about 45 minutes.

My sweet cousin had her precious baby yesterday at the same hospital that I am delivering in. We were originally due a week apart. I texted her to tell her I would be over as soon as my appointment was over and she wrote, "okay - and maybe you'll be checking in!"

I texted back, "you never know!"

As we were in a room waiting for the Doc, I heard the nurse chatting it up with some people. Around the corner came my Mom and Grandma! They came up to see my cousin's baby, and since we were right next door they stopped by for my appointment. Perfect!

The Doc came back, checked me (nothing is happening, folks) and did an ultrasound. She was concerned about my Blood Pressure (surprise, surprise), and a few other things like his size and my body and yada yada.

She finished the exam and ultrasound and said, "okay - I'm sending you over to the hospital. Did you bring your bags?"

I gave Husby a panicked look and told her no, but that they were packed and ready.

She proceeded to tell me that she wanted to run several tests on me and that she would possibly do a c-section in the morning. As she talked, I went blank. One billion emotions ran through my body and I was so glad there were other people there to interpret what she was saying to me. As soon as everyone left the room so that I could put my pants back on, Husby kissed my head and said, "we might have a BABY tomorrow, honey!"

I burst into tears.

"I DON'T WANT TO RUIN THIS!", I bawled.

"RUIN WHAT?!?!" he asked.

Husby has boards on Monday. He has board review all week with one of the best Docs in the world (literally - he's known all over the world in the Medical field) and he was skipping an few hours today to be with me for my appointment. I didn't know what to feel. I was scared. I was excited. I was petrified. I was nervous. I was anxious. I was thrilled. I was...confused.

Husby bear hugged me and reassured me that it was going to be absolutely perfect, no matter what happened and NOT TO WORRY.

We went to the hospital and they checked me in after they sent me back home to get my bags first. They gave me the best labor and delivery room in the whole place!! I was thrilled - it was huge! I told them that if I went home today, they better give me that same delivery room when I come back. They said everyone wants that one.

They hooked things up to my stomach, put an IV in me and started the tests. I, again, was filled with emotion. I didn't know what was happening. As I laid there, I started having contractions. One was HUGE and it lasted for what seemed like an eternity. It was my first "real" contraction in my pregnancy. Mom took a picture of the machine that showed it. I wanted to scream in pain, but figured I'd save that for the horrific cervical checks.

Hate.Those.With.My.Whole.Heart.

I laid there for a few hours with Husby and Mom and they finally got my results back and made a call to the Doctor.

She changed her mind about keeping me, and decided to send me home to see if I could last a little longer. My blood work came back good, but my BP is still high so I am on bed rest. I'm not sure what is going to happen, but I am resting in the fact that God has His hand completely over the entire situation. I have to go back in on Friday to be monitored, so who knows what that will bring....

Will my body end up cooperating with a natural delivery? Will I have a C-Section? I am 100% fine with either because I know that it will be exactly what God has ordained for me and for Levi. I just wish I knew what was going to happen. And when.

It's almost 1AM now, and I can't sleep. I'm having mild contractions, so I just got up and drank 3 huge glasses of water to see if that would stop them. I am absolutely exhausted from this wild day, but my body won't sleep!

Well, I'm off to the bathroom for the 12th time since I "went to bed". Prayers still appreciated. :)

  2. Good luck with whatever happens. I'll tell you from current (as of this moment) experience that recovering from a c-section isn't fun, but getting to hold your new baby is so worth it.

  3. I've only been reading your blog for almost a week, but I'm hanging on to every word with baited breath! It's kinda comical, as I was reading back to the very beginning of your blog it started to mess with my head. I'd look up from the page and it would take me a second to realize I'm not pregnant too, I am THAT engrossed! Here's hoping that Levi's delivery is quick and easy as possible, you'll come through this just fine!

  4. Dude - you're there. you can do this. It's freaking scary and exciting and totally surreal, but it will also be over before you know it. Just take a deep breath and roll with it. Next thing you know, you'll be home with a newborn and exhausted from not sleeping and you'll wonder if you dreamt that whole going to the hospital thing. Just take a deep breath when it starts to get overwhelming and remember how lucky you are to not only have your husband there, but also your family.

  15. OH MY GOODNESS! I feel little pricklies on the back of my neck - prayers and good thoughts are headed your way - & the c-section thing isn't a "breeze" but definitely do-able & not as bad as I had thought previously. Much, much easier :-) So, don't even worry bout that part, cause I did BIG TIME.

  16. Okay, this sounds exactly like me when I had my first baby; a big baby boy also :). He came by c-section which wasn't in my plan at all but I survived. If you have a c-section you will be so sore but it will get better, I promise. Good luck and enjoy the ride. It's a doozy :)
P.S. My big baby boy started playing baseball on the high school team Tuesday night. It seems like just yesterday I was in the hospital with him, oy!

  34. you poor thing! That is so stressful. Keep comforting yourself with the truth that God has all of this under control and can use the birth of your precious son to show how he can provide during complicated situations (like with your husbands schooling schedule) and bring things about in a perfect way. It will all work out according to His plans. You will be just fine!
I can't wait to hear all about your new baby and find out which of you he really looks like! Babies are so exciting! In the meantime try to use this time to relax and get some rest before Levi makes his appearance. I know it's kind of hard to be calm and relaxed at this point, but pop in a good movie or turn on your favorite music and just try to destress a bit. I think you will feel better.

Best wishes to you and your growing family!

  47. Welcome to my world...I went in for a normal appt. at 34 weeks, and had my baby via c-section the next day. Did not have bags packed, nor was our nursery even done, amongst another billion things. But, it turned out fine, and our baby is fine and doing great after 12 days in the NICU. Good luck!
