The Sweetest Gift.

Husby and I usually don't exchange Christmas gifts for several reasons. One, because we usually take a mini trip before Christmas to get away together. And two, because he is a Medical student, and my income isn't exactly going to land us on the Forbes List any time soon. What am I saying, it wouldn't even land us on a bathroom stall list. It's meager. Meager, but sufficient. And praise God for it!

This year, we exchanged gifts.

I was super excited to give him the steal-of-a-deal Ralph Lauren black leather shoes I bought him. He needed some desperately and so I knew he would be pleased. And he was.

But when he gave me my gift, I knew I had been outdone. He took the cake on sentiment. He blew my gift out of the water.

A beautiful, delicate, dainty golden bracelet with a soft little pearl hanging from it's center. When I saw the pearl, I knew exactly what it stood for.

June. Pearl. The birthstone for Baby Lovie.

I absolutely love it. It is the perfect gift from my husband. I will cherish it forever!

He then proceeded to tell me the story on going to buy it. He had to go to two different stores: one for the chain and one for the pearl, and two little old ladies helped him as they oohed and aahed over Husby and his sweet heart. It took him all day to get it just right and the women ended up giving him a discount that sounds unbelievable.

He set out to get the perfect gift and I do believe he did just that.

I wanted to run in the other room and sew some pearls on his shoes real fast to prove that I too, can be sentimental.

But....I didn't. :)
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  2. You mean I'm not the only one who was outdone?! :) My husband and I kept it small this year too, but he had a couple of very sweet gifts for me that made me feel lame! One was a snowglobe with a picture of us from our wedding and the other was a framed copy of our vows. The new shirt and tie I( got him (which he needed) looked pretty blah compared to those things!

  15. How beautiful and sweet! My husband outdid me, too. I have lovedddddddd Tiffany's jewelry for as long as I can remember, and this year he bought me my very first piece, a beautiful ring. I cried for almost an hour. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. He admitted later that he almost cried when I did. OK.....now I'm gonna cry just thinking about it.

  16. Cute story. We are more like you guys--we'd rather take a trip together any day rather than exchange gifts. This year, we did a combo: we got each other season tickets to the Tulsa PAC. Sort of like mini-trips all year! ;)

  22. Ahh... Whit, what a wonderful precious gift! I too was outdone by my husby. I got him practical things, shirts, pants, a few foodie treats for the Chef, a bunch of $2 DVDs I got on Black Friday. Fun stuff. He got me a wonderful Christmas ornament, and the MP3 player I'd been lusting over for the last year. It was a good Christmas!
