Vivid Imagination

When I am alone, at night, driving home from a destination in the dark....

I often get paranoid that the person behind me is following me.

I feel like they are going to follow me home and attack me before I can get inside. Because of this hallucination, I drive very fast and swerve in and out of cars as if I am actually in a chase scene. I speed up and slow down. Change lanes and predetermine every move. As I approach my exit, I drive as fast as possible and veer off of my exit at the very last second. I feel like that will throw them off and they won't have time to exit behind me. They will keep going straight and I can continue on with my getaway with more time on my side.

I am Evel Knievel.

I tap my left foot as fast as possible and keep my eyes on my rearview at all times. I plan my escape route if they catch up with me. I have even been known to be SO paranoid, that if the person behind me just happens to be going into my housing addition, too, then I won't turn in. I keep driving straight just to test the waters.

And then I check my gas tank to make sure I can keep driving as long as needed.

Tonight, driving home from Bible study, I was on my game and driving like a professional. I pulled into my neighborhood and squealed through the streets like an escape convict (so much that I almost slammed into a mailbox - oops. I said almost). I opened our garage door before the house was even visible and as I made the turn to our driveway, I kept my eyes on all windows. I flew into the garage, jumped out and ran to the door to slam it behind me and lock it, as if now, I was being chased on foot.

Whew - I made it. That was close.

I admit. I get too lost in my thoughts sometimes.

And....I have way too much fun with it.

Ummm. Am I alone in this or is anyone else as weird as me?

Doubtful.

  1. I have little thoughts like that on a DAILY basis!! What can I say? I AM a SAHM who watches 2 little ones. Sometimes T.V. just doesn't give me the "excitement" my imagination can!!! I think you're okay. ;-)

  2. that cracks me up. I have the same thoughts sometimes...especially if I pulled out in front of someone, or forgot to use my signals... I take my adrenaline rush wherever I can get it.

  4. You are not alone!! I do things like this, especially if my husby is out of town. I have an overactive imagination and can get pretty creative with my escape plans!

  5. When I am walking up to my front door. My house jaunts out.. with and extended window..(I'll have to take a picture.. I don't know how to explain it.. ) but anyway.. I always think someone is lurking in that corner.. ready to jump at and grab me.. It makes me a nervous wreck..lol

  6. My hubby travels out of town for work at least once a week. I USE TO watch those true crime stories, and loved them-until I kept imagining all those horrible things happening to me. When my hubby was out of town, I couldn't sleep-I would just fall asleep to jump out of bed because of a noise I heard.(Several Times a night!!) No more scary TV for me, no more losing sleep for me!!

  9. um,you just described me to a "T". i'm pretty sure i monitor to see if the guy behind me follows me into the neighborhood. if i don't recognize the car, i keep driving, past my house, out the other end of the neighborhood and straight to the police station down the street...or at least that is my plan in case it happens...

  10. I have already felt like someone was following me and that is a very weird thing! I would totally do the same thing you did, drive past me house just to see what's going on - haha!!!

  11. I do the same thing!!! I always drive past my neighborhood if a car has been following me for a while. One time I was being "followed" for a LONG time, and I actually turned onto my street...they did too. I was so freaked that I wouldn't turn in the driveway. Turns out it was my neighbor! I felt like such an idiot, so when she asked me about it later I made up a story about how I forgot something at the grocery store and had to go back. At 9PM...yea right...

  12. So funny, I do the same thing especially if it is late at night.
No such thing as being too careful. When I'm downtown I even leave a car length between me and the car in front of me at stoplights so I can escape a car jack attempt and my purse always on the floor, out of sight!
There are some crazy people in this world you know :)

  13. Oh man, I'm the same way but not so much when I'm driving. We live in the boonies without much traffic. But I'm horrible about it when I'm home at night and my husband is gone for whatever reason. I imagine someone is outside preparing to break in and I run through the scenario of how I would outsmart them to get myself and the kids out of harm's way. So paranoid, I know!

  14. I have to admit, I've never even thought of that before. But now that you mention it, maybe I SHOULD pay more attention! Luckily I drive like a bat out of hell naturally, so I think that keeps me ahead of the curve...

  15. You crack me up. I've something had these thoughts..but I just love driving fast, it doesn't matter if someone is following me or not..lol.

  16. And everyone thinks your BROTHER is the writer in the family! I have felt like someone was following me home from the grocery store before. I even called Dennis and told him to come out on the porch with the phone to be ready to call 911 if they came in the driveway with me or slowed down to shoot!

  17. I think it is a womanly thing. We are all paranoid. :) But, Be careful!!

  18. You are so not alone, although you have planned very well, haha! But yes, I thought and watched out to make sure noone was following and would plan to pass the house if at all necessary! I used to even look in the backseats when I got in the car to make sure noone was stowing away! Scary!

  19. I totally do the same thing, though mine is less while driving and more while going into the house. We don't have a garage, so I scurry up our front walk pretty fast!

  20. That is so funny...I can barely go outside in the dark and take out the garbage...I am a chicken! My neighbors always say they know when hubby is out of town b/c all of my lights are on in every room and outside!

  21. hehehehe!!! me too!
you had me lol at the part where you just keep on driving straight instead of going into your subdivision, lol. I do that too!

Even when the trash is out front & I throw something in last minute at night after cleaning the kitchen, I have to superwalk back to the house!!! What a nerd, but I do that when I'm alone. I just feel like i'ma get attacked!

  22. OMG!!! I don't drive crazy but I make it a point to drive different ways to/from work so as not to create a pattern if anyone was watching me!!!! CRAZY! I thought I was alone in my madness, hehe. Everytime I leave the grocery store or mall at night, I always think of my get-away plan incase I were to be attacked.

    Crazy Girls.

  23. were you in my neighborhood last night LOL...JK but someone who most likely was having this same experience was.

I do worry about that sometimes taking the same route to and from work...that someone is waiting for me...you do have a great imagination though :)

  25. I can honestly say I don't do that. I'm aware of the vehicles around me, but I've never imagined that someone is following me. I guess you do have a "vivid imagination".

  26. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog! I have ANOTHER comment today-I made it through university, and grad school, my first years as a first grade teacher without coffee. Then my sister said,"Try this-it doesn't taste like coffee!" Just like that,I was hooked on Tim Horton's cappichino (spelling?!). I drank it everyday for THREE MONTHS-guess what? I was also THREE MONTHS PREGNANT with my first baby AND DIDN'T KNOW IT YET!!! What a time to get a coffee addiction...I was thirty one! There is still time for you!!!

  33. I totally do the same thing! (maybe not exactly to your extent!) When I get out of my car I always have to get my mase in my hand (just in case) or hold my keys, so if I need to, I can poke somebody with it!

  34. i pay no attention to my surroundings whatsoever. i'd be a perfect victim for stranger danger!

  35. Oh geez. I think we're twins. This is a CONSTANT fear of mine. And to top it off, once someone actually WAS following me, which in my mind, moved the whole following fear from "possible" to "probable."

  36. Ha ha, I do a similar thing. I think that it's because as women, we feel more like victims, because women are victimized more often than men. So, I'm right there with ya. Too funny !!

  37. I have werid thoughts like that! Whole stories around the smallest things. You sound like a kindred spirit! Another girl like that is Saddlepotatoes that you follow!

My blog is very boring so far. I really like yours though!

You are doing things the right way. God bless you on your journey!

  38. omgosh. I totally do that same thing. I speed when someones behind me because I am paranoid and then when no one is, I go at a normal speed because I am paranoid that a cop will pull me over!
