The Big Day.

Well folks, we survived the first day of school!  I guess I should say "I" instead of "we", because Levi was super stoked about the whole thing.  I never let him know I was so torn up about it all, running and hiding with each melt down so that he wouldn't see.  He has such a tender heart I knew that if he thought I was upset, then he would be upset.  Thankfully, I was able to pull it together around him and have my moments in private. Oh, why is parenting so gut wrenching?!

He had a wonderful time, and was eager to go back the next day.  I documented the day and turned it into a video, so if you want an inside look to our first day of school experience, here you go! :)

I can hardly believe my baby is a first grader and out in the big wide world!  He is such a light, and I pray he shines radiantly and brings many people to the feet of Jesus.

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. So glad that the day went well! You both will thrive and I'm sure you and Ezra will enjoy your one on one time.

  2. I love the video! How fun! I am a former Kindergarten teacher...and trust me, it's WAY more difficult for the parents than it is for the kids. My youngest kiddo started Kindergarten last week and it was definitely bittersweet. Looks like you are no longer in PA?

  3. Oh My! He is half grown. I remember the video with him telling his dad, My names not Levi...I'm Weebie! Oh gosh how do you handle it.
Mine little is 41 and this brings back the memories of leaving fingernail marks on the wall outside his Kindergarten class on first day. :)
Congrats Levi for having a great first day in first grade! What a blessing this child will be to his classmates.

  5. We were driving across an open field going 5mph, not on the road. And I wasn't filming. But thanks for your concern.

  7. I can't believe Levi is already in first grade! I've been following you since the beginning, way before Levi and Ezra! It is such a pleasure to see your children grow and thrive and to follow your beautiful family as you have many adventures. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Such an adorable video! I was really impressed when Levi was able to read the writing on his cake - obviously a good testament to your home schooling abilities! I live in London and so wanted to ask at what age do children start formal schooling in the U.S. or does it differ between states? Also, what age is the norm for reading?

I'm a long time reader but have never really commented before! :-) Best wishes from a very rainy England today!

  9. A few years back I had made your porcupine meatballs recipe. I have the recipe but hadn't the measurements for the spices. Could you send me the recipe? daldak01@yahoo.ca

  10. Really enjoyed reading this blog entry. Loved everything that you did for your son for his first day of school. I have a one year old son. The effort is clearly worth it - his joy and excitement are priceless.
