The Christmas Story - For Children.

One of the greatest things about having a baby is seeing them experience things for the first time. This year, as we enter the Christmas season and approach the big celebration, we have begun to teach The Christmas Story to Levi.

Since children are so "hands on", we bought Levi a book about Jesus' birth (he loves to be read to) and also this little Advent calendar. The calendar is so much fun for him because it is numbered 1 through 25 and each day you peel back a new number and it tells, in one simple little sentence, the story of Christmas. It is perfect for children! Of course he doesn't understand it, and he can't comprehend who Jesus is, but in my opinion, children are never too young to learn.

We started the calendar today, and his little face lit up as he studied the scene. I want to take you all along on this 25 day journey with us, so along with my regular posts, I will also post a picture of Levi opening each new number, and the new sentence that each day brings.

Come experience Levi's first encounter with Jesus' birth with us!

  1. That is so wonderful! What a great thing to start at his age. I'm sure he will look back on these posts and pictures as he gets older and feel so thankful his family did this for him.
Thank you for sharing this special time with us! I am excited to see the rest of the calendar!

  2. Oh what a wonderful idea! Sweet little Levi has the best parents! ;) I think young children have a lot better memory than we give them credit for. I remeber some things from when I was one or two. Each tiny memory means a great deal to me now.

  3. how excellent is that? i love that! it's hard to find advent calendars that don't have a picture of santa and little chocolates hidden inside. i mean, i like chocolate and all, but shouldn't an "Advent" calendar be about Jesus?

  4. I love it!! We've pulled out our Christmas Story children's books and have been reading them at the table (he loves to be read to during meal time ... it's hilarious). And I've got the Advent Wreath ready, too!

  12. I think its wonderful that you are starting already with Levi. Dianna baught Livy her very own Nativity Set and she loves it. Everytime she brings me Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, or even the animals, it gives us the opportunity to share the precious Christmas Story. They are never too young!!
