Throw Me A Rope!

Oh you friends!  I'm trying to keep up with blogging and I feel so far behind.  With outlets like Instagram and Facebook, it makes it increasingly more difficult to sit down and put together a well thought out summary of what is going on with us.  But how easy it is to post a quick pic, a swift recap, and a "hey - I'm here and this is what is up!" on those sites!  I plan on backing off of those places more to post our adventures and intentionally WRITE about them here.  My memories tend to linger longer when I write them here, rather then on information overload social media sites - where things are filtered out and completely gone with new posts every 17 seconds.

Sigh.  The struggles of the inter webs.

Do you guys find it harder to blog these days because of the quick taps of our smartphones and ease of letting everyone know how we are?

Will we forget how to type by 2018 and only know how to tap?

Do we still remember sentence structure? Paragraphs? Semicolons meaning more than happy faces?

Will we be able to type a story longer than 140 characters?

We're drowning in the pit of smartphones.

Drowning.

Drowning.

Help!

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. Hahaha! I agree! That's why I only have FB (I may do Instagram eventually but not for now), and even with FB I mainly use it to keep up with others rather than posting status updates myself. Around the holidays or special occasions I'll post something, but for the most part I "exclusively" blog. I prefer writing...details, paragraphs, and stories more than just a few highlights every 17 seconds. =) But that's just my personal preference. I love to write AND I do it for the sake of having a record of our memories. My blog is our family's scrapbook. You can't really get that through any other social media.

  2. I never comment but glad you will post more here since I have no clue how to use instagram and love keeping up with you and your sweet family.
    Have a blessed day.

  3. I enjoy your blog so much, and hope you will keep it up, though you are a very busy mom. A blogger has to have a passion for writing, just like mainstream writers. and have ideas just bubbling in their brains, and maybe a notebook to jot down ideas for posts, IMHO. I don't see an instagram link on your blog page--do you mind putting a button there sometime? Thanks.

  4. Enjoy the pics of course. But the words are the most important

  5. hahaha...this is why I'm glad I don't have a smartphone. I'm also sad though because I find it really hard to get pictures when I want them! So glad you're back to blogging regularly. I have been trying to get back into it, but without pictures it's not nearly as fun!

  6. I think I've finally found the proper balance for blog vs social media. I use Facebook primarily to stay in touch with friends and family, because I live far away from so many of them--I share links, start conversations about tv shows we have in common, share a few more photos there that I don't want published to the masses since I can control who sees what on FB. Twitter, I use for live interaction, and I don't try to keep up, as a rule -- we are big MLB and NFL fans in our house, so I tend to be heavier on sports interaction on Twitter. Instagram, I use both to post photos I may not bother to blog (like my personal daily photo challenge) or to "give a blog teaser" with a link for the rest of the story. I may cross-pollinate a little -- share Instagram to Twitter and/or Facebook, for instance -- but I try to save my stories for my blog, and then make sure the link to my stories gets dispersed over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. =) I always think before posting to social media: Does this need to tell a story? Or does this stand alone as a snippet that doesn't lend itself well to a full story?
