Purge It. Purge It Good.

Oh, you guys!  If you walked into my house right now and could see the state of disaster that it is in, I am 100% certain you would fall in the floor in a full out cardiac arrest.  It. Is. Unbelievable.

You see, we've been purging every single room and sorting them into three categories: keep, donate, sell.  In a desperate attempt to purge the things we don't need, won't want to move, or simply don't use anymore, our house has become a tornado of STUFF.

Stuff on the floors. Stuff on the tables. Basically if it's a flat surface, there's stuff on it.

I'm having an online yard sale with the things we're selling and it's been a big success so far!  Last week, we spent three evenings online posting stuff and selling stuff, and then bagging it and delivering it.  It was CRAZY! And my sweet parents are gracious enough to help with the delivery to all my friends in my hometown who purchased things!  We are going to use the profit from that to pay for a storage unit to store the things we aren't bringing with us for the year we are gone.  So, we're selling stuff to store stuff!  Isn't that ironic? A little too ironic.  Don't ya think?

:)

Anyway, over the weekend, Husby and I each took a boys room and destroyed it.  We emptied the dressers, drawers, closets, toy chests ... and then we wanted to throw our hands up in the air and go to a hotel.  With room service. And massages.  But, we pressed on and got the job done.  And oh, it feels amazing!  Except for the fact that those two are literally the ONLY clean rooms in the house so I sneak in there to breathe when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

That was a task that I could not take on alone through the week with the boys home with me.  It would end up being a complete circus because each and every toy that we chunked into the donate box, the boys took sudden interest in and formed new and unhealthy attachments to.

And the same thing happened to me when I sorted through the baby gowns and swaddling blankets.

OH! MY HEART!  IT SIMPLY CANNOT TAKE IT!

So, although we still have a whole lot ahead of us to do before we get our house on the market (again, MY HEART), we are slowly but surely getting it done.

So if you don't hear from me on here for awhile, I'm probably buried underneath a pile of stuff.  With a white flag sticking out the top.

Wish me luck! And wonderful purging success!

  1. Oh, you have my sympathy! I'm doing something similar in my house, but for different reasons. I'm five months pregnant with my fourth child, so I'm trying to declutter and get as organised as possible before May. I know it has to get worse before it gets better, but I hate mess and it's driving me nuts! It feels so good when it's done though.

I know exactly what you mean about the children getting attached to toys you are trying to get rid of. I have to sort the toys when my three children are at school otherwise that toy they haven't played with for three years suddenly becomes one they can't live without!

Wishing you the very best of luck with your decluttering endeavors!

  2. Good luck!! We did a mini-purge back in November of just a few rooms and it was a JOB. We were exhausted afterwards... but it felt so good! I know all your purging will be worth it. =)
