How Blogging Saved My Life.

Let me just stop right now and tell you how blogging saved my life.

About a month ago I was running out of storage on my computer so I started deleting unneeded files and whatnot. I went on a deleting spree, thinking I was doing a good thing by emptying all kinds of folders and bins ... until I realized that 4 months of photos got WIPED OUT COMPLETELY.

Literally, all that was left were the thumbnails and when I clicked the photo a giant black question mark popped up. And this included the holidays and a few other big family events.

I wanted to vomit.

Devastated.

Double devastated because I hadn't printed them yet.

I typically print every few months and then organize and store our photos because I'm a fanatical maniac when it comes to our family photos. I hadn't done this in MONTHS and I was irate with myself.

Sick to my stomach and on the verge of tears.

Well, you guys.

You know how I blog dozens of pictures of our family life in my posts? Some of you may think, "geeze lousie, do we really need to see 28 pictures of her kids in their Halloween costumes? And 56 of them on Christmas morning?"

(Duh! Who wouldn't want to see that?!)

:)

Well folks, I am triple dog thankful I do that because my photos were SAVED!

I upload my photos to Flickr before blogging them and thankfully you can print your Flickr photos, and my pictures were rescued!!!

I would have DIED if I lost those photos forever.

One of my biggest life fears is losing photos, and hence losing memories. Because photos jog my memory all the time of things I would otherwise forget in this very crowded brain of mine.

Photos found.
Photos printed.
Life saved.

Blogging saves lives, people.

Just do it!

(And post more pictures than anyone could possibly ever need to see! You'll be glad you did.)

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I love this philosophy! I've run into very similar situations and if I'm having a hard time remembering the timeline of certain events in our life, I always look it up on my blog first! How funny!

I, for one, LOVE all 56 of you Christmas morning pictures, so I'm glad you post them anyways, but I'm SO glad that you didn't lose all of those files permanently! I feel the same way about pictures and my stomach was in knots for you just thinking about it!

  2. What kind of printer, paper and ink do you use? Because my printed pictures fade. :(

  3. That's the very reason I started blogging :) I want to be able to look back at photos and my thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I have not printed or backed up in forever. And I keep meaning to just print blog books and I haven't. The thought of losing this makes me nauseated, too. Ugh. Glad you got it all back!!!

  8. I've been there before, I lost every single photo ftom my prom before I'd even put them on my computer, I howled for hours!

After discovering your blog a few days ago I am HOOKED! Reading your Disney posts made me feel like I was there too.

One day I hope to be a housewife too, and although I'm only 18 I've been forming my own ideas on childcare and homecare, I've written about them at www.hervintagemind.blogspot.com

  9. Couldn't agree more. Plus I love how my blog chronicles parts of my life for posterity. I once saw a company that could take blog posts and turn them into a book but I don't remember it. If anyone know of one please let me know. Thanks. www.AChandelierLife.com

  10. I lost almost all photos and videos from the first 11 months of my daughter's life when my computer hard drive died out of no where. I had some on Facebook, some on my blog, and some printed, but I lost a lot. I'll never get over it. Ever.

  11. blurb.com turns blogs to books, I think.

  12. You need to get a Carbonite subscription like YESTERDAY! It automatically backs up your entire computer constantly, and has an online file access, so you'll never have to worry about this again. I bought it and less than a week later my laptop died with 2 years' worth of photos + over 10,000 design files for my embroidery business. Recovered every single one. Dave Ramsey usually has some kind of coupon, plus I think you can buy off of Ebates for extra savings! xo
