Stuffy Stuffs.

I won't be blogging this week, but I'll be back next week with a plethora of fun posts!  So, I thought today I'd do a hodge podge ... my favorite kinds of posts to write and to read from others.

* Speaking of reading other blogs ... geeze louise, I just haven't done it in a long time!  Back before babies and I worked behind a computer, I read all kinds of bloggity blogs.  Now, I barely have time to write on my own, let alone read any others.  Life gets busy with precious kiddos running around! But I'm so glad I get the daily short bits from my fave bloggy buddies via Twitter.  :)

* Speaking of not having time to read other blogs ... how on earth does The Pioneer Woman do it?  She is a wife.  A mom.  A mom that home schools, for crying out loud.  An author.  A photographer.  A cook.  She has her own TV show.  She helps run a ranch.  She cooks a bazillion meals per day.  And she blogs!  How?  I want to ... no, I NEED to know how she fits all these things in to her days?!  Oh, and she's apparently renovating a building downtown Pawhuska and has big plans (that involves food) for it.  I swear if I ever meet her again I'm checking her back for a robot board a'la Vicki from Small Wonder.

* Speaking of Oreo pizza ... wait.  No.  Huh?  Anyway, have you ever had Oreo pizza from Mazzios? It makes me disgusting.  Seriously.  It is too good and delicious to even properly discuss via the internet.  It blows my ever lovin' mind.  I had one last week and made myself so sick on it that it just hurt.  It's ridiculous.

* Does anyone have any fantabulous must-see/do/eat's in San Diego?  Ya know, just for kicks?

* "You're a fake and a phony and I wish I'd never laid eyes on you!!"   Name that movie.

* I have all this really great Golden Book decor, framed photos, etc., that I have no idea what to do with.  I'm thinking of bundling it all together and selling it so that someone else can get good use out of it for a party, baby shower, nursery decor, etc.  And then part of me wants to hold on to it forever and embrace my inner hoarder.  Decisions, decisions.

* Maybe I should hold on to it and have another baby because that would make one killer cute nursery!
Oh man.  I just sat here for like 5 minutes thinking of all the great things you could do with a Golden Book nursery.  But I think I'm done having babies, so ... I need someone else to have one and let me be in charge of the nursery.  Is that too much to ask?

* I was watching a special on Disney World/Land a few weeks ago, and it had a clip of Walt Disney saying, "and to think, all of this started from a mouse", and I got chills and teared up.

* But when I see real mice, I get chills and tear up for other reasons.

* Speaking of Walt Disney (there we go!), Levi has a CD of Disney songs, and we were listening it to the car the other day.  "When You Wish Upon a Star" came on, and it was real old sounding, crackling and the like.  I turned to Husby and said, "Did you know that Walt Disney himself is singing this?" Husby was like, "Really?! That's pretty awesome!" And then I said, "just kidding". HAHAHAHA... it was the stupidest joke/lie ever, but it made us both laugh so hard.

* We are weird, weird people, Husby and me.

* I need GOOD BOOK recommendations, please.  !!!!!

I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I laughed at your Walt Disney joke too, don't worry! :-P You definitely need to read "Her Mother's Hope" and "Her Daughter's Dream" -- they tell an AMAZING story of a family's journey. Have a nice trip?

  2. I used to wonder that about Ree Drummond as well--how the heck she does all that. I did a little research and her whole schtick about being a little housewife out on the farm is just that: a pretty much made-up persona for her blog. Her husband's family is one of the largest land-owners in Oklahoma and she has a full-time staff to help run her blog (most posts aren't actually written by her) and her house (read: housekeepers, nannies and the like). Not to say that she's not entrepenurial, but I would put her in the category of "successful businesswoman" rather than a "housewife with a blog" if that makes any sense.

Ok, if you decide to sell that decor as a bundle please post on your blog; I'm hoping to have another baby this year and I would kill for that as a nursery theme. And as an added bonus it's pretty genderless, so maybe I could get my hubby to not find out the gender on this one ;)

On book recommendations...I just finished reading Jennifer Worth's memoir trilogy for "Call the Midwife" and it was excellent. Not sure if you've seen the BBC production they've been airing on PBS (Sunday night, in Downton's time slot) but the show was amazing (season one is on Netflix, season two is airing now), but the books are even better. Its based on the personal memoir of Jenny Lee, who worked as a Nurse & Midwife in the East End of London in the 1950's; parts of it are happy and others completely gut-wrenching, but I really can't recommend it enough.

  3. My number one book recommendation is always Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. Beautifully, beautifully written and just a captivating tale. If you're looking for something kind of lighter, I just read and loved Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. I could also always, always re-read Anne of Green Gables or Little Women!

  4. Agree with September on Ree. I used to love her blog until I realized that it was basically all a lie. I have no problem with people outsourcing and having a staff, but be honest about it. She acts as though she does it all, but really what she does is write checks for others to do it for her. Needless to say, I don't read her blog anymore :)

  5. Grease, Sandra Dee, of course.

Also, have you read any Francine Rivers books yet? I know I've recommended them to you before, but seriously. :) Redeeming Love and the Mark of the Lion Series. So good.

  10. I was just in San Diego a few months ago and wrote a post on it! You have to do the San Diego Zoo obviously, but you should definitely take a little tour of the Gaslamp district, they have so many great restaurants and shopping and you are close to everything. Also there is Oldtown San Diego which has some cute shops, and there are many museums, like the USS Midway Museum. There is a lot to do down there.

  13. I live in San Diego. MUST get fish tacos at South Beach Bar and Grill in Oceanside. Best tacos in the city.

  14. The moment I saw the post on the Golden Books birthday party I wanted a that theme for my baby shower (I'm due in October). I would also recycle and decorate the nursery with it because it is oh so cute!
The most recent book that I read is Explicit Gospel by Matt Chandler. It isn't a pleasure read, but a book that I recommend.

  15. echoing anything by Francine Rivers but my favorite by her are Redeeming Love and Mark of the Lion Series. They are very powerful!! The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is pretty awesome too!

  16. My favorite book ever is East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I've read it at least a dozen times and still get new nuggets of truth out of it every time. It's a secular novel but I learned more about my own sin through this book than any other book (besides the Bible, obviously.) I'm a San Diego native who moved to GA 18 months ago so here's my "San Diego insider" advice. If you are taking the kids...Legoland is FANTASTIC for preschool aged kids. Love love love it! The SD Zoo as well as the SD Safari Park are wonderful and world-class but they are both EXTREMELY hilly and huge. Pushing a stroller can be a nightmare on a hot day. For date night--Coronado is perfection. You'd die for the Hotel Del. The view, the restaurants, all of it simply can not be beat. La Jolla cove is a wonderful, family friendly beach where you can see sea lions. For a little pampering, The La Costa Resort and Spa is once again world-class and divine. One warning! If your trip coincides with horse racing season (mid-July through Labor Day weekend) the traffic can be a beast in the Del Mar area (this is where we used to live.) If you haev any more questions feel free to email me at toddandcharla@yahoo.com. Have fun! Can't hear about what you decide to do!

  17. I can't believe I'm about to say this, because I HATE it when people say it to me, but You're done having babies? You seem like such a fantastic momma!!! lol Idk why but I always envisioned you having more when I read your blog.

  18. I'm not pregnant yet, but when I am, I would seriously PAY you to make a nursery inspiration board. You design the absolute cutest sweetest most personal nurseries I have ever seen.

  19. I agree with Redeeming love if you haven't read it. It's incredible.
