A Mercury Glass Christmas!

It's that time of the year again ... everyone sharing their holiday decor! I love peeking into everyone's home and getting a glimpse of what surrounds them every night as they gather together as families. Christmas decor makes everything so cozy and beautiful.  I just love it.

This year's "theme", though I didn't even do it intentionally, turned out to be mercury glass.  My mom started my collection several years ago with the mercury glass trees, and I've slowly added to it throughout the years.  I just think it's timeless and beautiful.  And the pieces that aren't Christmas specific (ie, trees), I use year 'round.

I wanted a simple kitchen table (without place settings) simply because now that I have little ones, simple is the easier route ... especially when we're eating AT the table every night (and little boy day time meals) so I'm not having to move things around all the time.

Simple.  Easy.  But pretty.  Yay!

The mercury glass spills over into the living room, too.  Our mantle is adorned with large silver nutcrackers, mercury glass votives and other decorative pieces.

It's so hard to photograph something with twinkling lights!  Oy!

When I spotted the nutcrackers I snatched them immediately.  Levi began his infatuation with nutcrackers last year, so naturally, I have a soft spot in my heart for them now.  Levi LOVED these!

I can't capture the soft sparkle of our mantle through photos, but it's my absolute favorite I've done yet.  I sit and stare at it all the time.  :)

Oh, and I finally ordered embroidered stockings for us this year.  I always wanted to wait until we had at least two children before I ordered these.  I love them!

In the kitchen I made a little candy cane tree and it proves to be Levi's favorite decoration in the whole house.  Ha!

And these berry trees sit on our bar.

Next up in our Christmas village!

We add a new building to our collection each year and this year Levi chose the Doughnut Shop - which he is completely OBSESSED with.  He's actually obsessed with the whole town.  It's just so childly festive and it makes me so happy to look at it.

We have a Church, a Home, a Doughnut shop, a Pharmacy (represents my dad!), a Bicycle Shop (represents Husby!) and a Train Station. Oh, and we also have a Santa's Toy Shop, but it wouldn't fit this year. :(

I would love to just jump right on in that town and start caroling.  Love!

Next year I am going to have to figure out another location for this little village.  This table can't house another building!  At least I have a whole year to figure it out.

On our entry hall table we have the nativity that my parents got me while they were IN BETHLEHEM.  It's my most treasured piece of decor and it's the first thing you see when you walk in our house.  I'm in love with it.  I mean, it's from the town our Jesus was born.  This is amazing to me!

Alrighty friends.  Enough photos for today.  I will show you our trees in tomorrow's post!

Also, if you've posted your holiday decor on your blog, leave me the link! I'd love to come peek! :)

  4. Beautiful decorations, Whitney! The mercury glass is just stunning - and it CAN be simple because of that and look amazing. A Nativity from Bethlehem - how wonderful! I just took a few photos so far of our holiday decorating - at http://mylifeinquilts.blogspot.com/2012/11/thanksgiving-weekend.html (ignore that top photo in the post of my son - LOL!) Merry Christmas! o:)

  5. I love mercury glass. It seems so classic. I try to buy a few new pieces every year when it goes on sale after Christmas. Your decor is so pretty! I love that your stocking is a red headed angel. :)
