Swingin' in the Trees.

For Husby's 30th, I wanted to do something special for him - something ALL about him!  I planned a little getaway for just to two of us to Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Neither of us had ever been there, and I thought it would be fun to explore.  I also wanted to do some outdoorsy things (since it was all about him), and planned for us to go zip lining!

On his birthday, I told him about the surprise with a letter.

This was waiting for him when he got home from work and he was so surprised!

So much fun!

We then headed out on the weekend for our trip, just the two of us.

We had a perfect time together - laughing until we were crying on the 4.5 hour trip down there.  Our hotel was beautiful and we had a lakeside view!  We slept in, explored the sights, had delicious food, shopped, toured, and just enjoyed our time alone.

The "hot springs" are pretty incredible.  They are PIPING hot, reaching around 147 degrees.  Yowza!  I stuck my finger in and yanked it back out.  There was steam pouring off the water and the falls.  It was crazy.

We toured the city, toured the bath houses, and the mountain tower.

On Sunday, we woke up to rain and worried about our zip lining adventure being cancelled!  After lunch, we drove that way and the lady had us wait for a while to see if we would go ahead and continue.  Thankfully, the rain let up and off we went!  To fly through the mountains!!

So. Much. Fun!

My heart was racing when I climbed up into the trees for the first run.  But after I zipped on, my nerves settled and I was having a blast!  You feel so free flying through the trees at great speed!  It was absolutely amazing!

We did 4 zips and hiked in between.  It was a pretty strenuous hike and we definitely burned off most of the yummy treats we had devoured the day before.  I was drenched in both rain and sweat ... and it felt GREAT! (WHO AM I?)

On the third zip, they told us to go off backwards.  Of course, as soon as I flew off the post, my shoe went flying off with me!!  I watched it fall and zipped the rest of the way with one shoe!  I knew landing it would be kind of hard because you land on very rocky terrain - I mean, it's the side of a mountain, and I only had one shoe.  I closed my eyes and landed it gracefully on one leg.  I felt just like Keri Strug.  I knew I wouldn't get a medal, but thought I certainly deserved a round of applause or something! :)

We had so many laughs, and an absolutely perfect time away.  I hope he enjoyed his 30th, because I sure did! :)

  1. That is great!! What an adventure! Did you get the shoe back?? If not how the heck did you manage hiking back? You are an awesome wife. Now I want to go zip lining, oh and weekending away from my kids :)

  2. You were down in my country! In college I lived 30 minutes from Hot Springs and now I live just about an hour away. My brother in law and sister in law just moved from there after living there for 8 years so we used to go a lot! It is always funny to me when people go there to vacation because it is "only Hot Springs." Lol. Glad y'all had fun! Happy birthday to your husband!

P.S. I absolutely love your blog. It is so fun to read and you set such a Godly example for all of us to follow. Thank you! God bless!

  5. That is such an adorable idea with the candy! I haven't seen anything like that, love it! I need closure about your shoe... Was it retrievable? Was this your favorite shoe??? That is like one of my biggest worries whenever we r up high on a ride or something...that my shoe will fall of. That and I hope I don't plummet to the ground.
