Ahead of the Game.

I have found myself super prepared for the arrival of this new little guy and the busyness of life that promises to hit afterward. He is coming at a time when things get very busy, so instead of floundering and panicking then with a precious newborn in my arms, I have started preparing things ahead of time.

Ezra is due right around Easter. So, though I figure he will already be here by then, I have already prepped and finished Levi's Easter basket. That way, it's one less thing I have to worry about when the holiday rolls around, and Levi will have the normalcy of the fun-filled day - even if Mommy is recovering from the birth of his little brother (or 40 weeks pregnant and writhing in pain)! I am usually appalled at how the grocery stores push out one holiday and bring in the other the very next day, but in circumstances like I'm in - it's sheer genius! It's February and Easter is taken care of over here!
(If you are racking your brain for what to stick in your child's basket, this year I went with Biblical puzzles: the Resurrection, David and Goliath and Noah's Ark. I ordered them from Alphabet Alley, but they are also available at Mardel. Levi loves puzzles, so I think he will really like to use these for both fun and a learning tool for the Bible! I've also picked up a couple of children's book explaining Easter that we can be reading to him leading up to the day. The "filler" for the basket is your typical chocolate bunny and other fun goodies.) Now, I just need the stores to bring in their Spring clothing so I can get him an Easter outfit to wear to Church that morning!

Levi's 3rd birthday is May 30, and I know that I will be up to my ears in diapers, bottles, transformers, coloring books, and emotions in the month leading up to that day, so I have his birthday party 90% planned and complete. The favors, decor and games are ordered, shipped and received, and really all I have left is last minute things to pick up! SUCH A RELIEF! I think this party will be the most fun of all the ones he's had, simply because HE chose the theme, and he and his little friends are old enough to do games and other fun activities. I can't wait! It has been so much fun planning, and I am so happy I have done it ahead of time where I was/am able to enjoy it and put thought into it - instead of just slapping something together last minute. I love planning and throwing his little parties and I want to make sure to make this one super great for him since we will be directly in the middle of a huge life change. His party is 3 months away and it is ALL he talks about. He tells strangers about it at Target and asks me daily if certain things are for his birthday party. Sweet boy. I love it! He actually remembers his last birthday party, too, which surprises me. He still talks about his Sesame Street party and when Elmo came to visit. Hopefully this one will be equally as fun for him. I think it will. Fingers crossed!

In the midst of all of this planning and prepping, I have also been redecorating the nursery! I feel like there is project after project in my life right now, but I'm just grateful that I have the time and energy to get them done. I am sort of at a standstill with the nursery, but I'm doing the best I can to gather things up and make this room unique and special just to little Ezra.

So. The months following our new baby's birth seem to be good and taken care of, and I feel such a sense of relief in knowing that! I just really love my life and the fulfillment I find in the big and small things of being a Mommy. From the Easter baskets to the birthday parties to bringing a new precious bundle into our lives - I feel blessed beyond all measure. And I'm totally ready to tackle these next few months ... with my Husby's arm around me, grasping my little boys hand and holding my baby in my arms. And all of us, ultimately, nestled safely in the palm of His hand.

I'm ready!
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I just love this post. You remind me how lucky we are to be mums (yes, mums, I'm on the other side of the world and mom is weird to me). Thanks for the lovely post.

  5. I was due with my daughter this past December 16th and ended up having her on the 22nd! While I wasn't done with all my planning quite as early as you, I spent most of November and early December getting gifts ready and the house decorated! And then my 2.5 year old (Ezra!!) had the BEST time with all his new toys! While I was at the hospital and passed out nursing afterward. Good for you for getting ready this early! So excited to see your Ezra!!

  11. My little boy was due right before easter last year, I made him and his big sister easter baskets a few weeks early. He was not here to receive his on easter. Counting chicken before they hatch comes to mind.
I thought it would be so cool to have a baby born on easter-especially since it changes days each year and his birthday wouldn't always be on the holiday. But alas he didn't come for 2 more days.
I hope your little one comes on time and your preparations for Levi are put to good use.
