Give Me Sghetti.

My cravings with Levi started very early. I wanted lettuce wraps and Cool Ranch Doritos like nobody's business. With this little love, all I want is spaghetti at all hours of the day. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, I want some SPAGHETTI.

(Stole this picture from The Pioneer Woman, and I may just drive over, break into her house and hold her at water-gun point until she makes me some. I don't mess around.)

I have had this little craving for a couple of weeks now, but this week it has hit with such intensity that it is almost unbearable. I mean, I have to have it. I would give an arm and possibly a leg for a big bowl of my dad's specialty spaghetti. It's the best your buds will ever taste, and I've GOT to get my lips on a bowl. And fast.

Last night, I wasn't feeling so great and I begged Husby to whip up a batch (he makes good spaghetti, you guys - must be something with the men in my life and their mad pasta skillz), but all we had were linguini noodles. I'm sorry, but it's just not the same. Especially when we're talking about red sauce and meatballs. My mouth was watering at the mere mention of noodles and sauce. I turned the channel and someone was eating a giant bowl of spaghetti. Of course. I almost jumped into my TV screen to join him. And then a commercial for Olive Garden came on. Um, Heaven. Not only have I wanted spaghetti, but my ENTIRE pregnancy, I've craved salad. Specifically, Olive Garden's. Great. I was in complete and utter desperation at this point.

Husby offered to go get spaghetti noodles, but it was late, Levi was hungry and I really didn't feel like cleaning up the kitchen. So, we hopped in the car and headed to Wendy's for a spicy chicken sandwich. :) Not quite spaghetti, but it was delish.

I am determined to get my big bowl of spaghetti soon, and I am afraid I will go to great lengths to get it. A craving will turn a pregnant woman into a crazed lunatic. Trust me. It won't be pretty.

I polled my FB friends with this question yesterday morning, since clearly, it is all I can think about. And now I'll ask you: Do you break your noodles before you boil them or throw them in whole? I'm a whole-noodler myself. I like to twirl, spin and suck up long noodles like a true blood Italian. How do you do it?

  1. I break them in half. Anything more than that and they're too short, but full ones are too long/messy for me. My mom did it too.

  2. I'm a whole-noodle girl! I like to twirl the noodles two or three at a time to create little bit sized bundles.

  3. I have been craving spaghetti lately and I am not even pregnant. Although thinking about it I am always craving pasta! I never break the noodles, I definitely like to twirl. Your post made me really curious, what is your dad's recipe (or is it a secret?)?

  4. This was my number one craving when pregnant! Didn't matter what time of day!

  5. I break them in half. Especially with the kids, I hate when they are sucking them down, and the shorter they are, the more my nerves won't freak over choking. Ahh! Drives me bananas. I just chew, no sucking, but I LOOOOVE to twirl.

I too have craved Olive Garden Salad this entire pregnancy and gave in to a pasta craving there and I love that now I even twirl with a spoon at home, gives me great leverage :)

  6. Great. Now I want spaghetti. I never make spaghetti anymore. After almost thirty years of marriage Dennis told me that he didn't really like my spaghetti-it was too bland! We have now been married thirty seven years and I have only made it a couple of times since then. I loved my mom's spaghetti and she made it very simply-not a lot of spice, just tomato-y goodness. I may have to make some for myself soon!

  8. Hah... funny. But I actually don't make spaghetti at all! Or any long noodled pasta. They are so much harder and messier to eat I feel like! We stick with short pastas, usually penne. Sometimes bow tie or fusilli. :)

  9. We are of the long noodle variety in our house.I like to twirl my noodles onto my fork and make a little noodle ball. Strange I know. I think we will be having spaghetti for dinner tonight after this post. Yum.

  10. I break my noodles in half once. I also use angel hair pasta instead of spaghetti noodles. My husband and son like the angel hair pasta best. I've spent many years "perfecting" my spaghetti recipe. I love pasta in any shape, form, or fashion.

  11. Depends on my mood, I sometimes break them.

  12. I break them in half too...normally sending a good portion of them all over my kitchen lol. I don't have a pot big enough for them all to be submerged if they are whole.

  13. I cravied Italian the ENTIRE time I was pregnant. Whitney, one time I went to Olive Garden and ate an ENTIRE Tour of Italy and lots of bread and salad. I wonder why I gained so much?!?! I break spgahetti!

  14. I use the whole noodle! I tried breaking them once, just to see what all of the fuss was about...the dry noodles went all over my kitchen! Apparently I don't have the skill to break them in half, so it's a good thing that I LOVE them whole! I'm a definite twirler. I think it's a skill to be able to wrap the noodles around a fork and not have loose strands. :-)

  15. My mom always broke them so I did too when I started cooking but now my husband (who is Italian) is a whole noodler so that's the way I roll now...it's honestly doesn't matter to me :)

  16. I always break them in half first. They are still somewhat swirlable after but if I don't break them up I get messy when I eat.

  17. 1. I am a whole noodler, thankyouverymuch. I'm not going to mention that my husband takes a knife to his spaghetti. Blasphemy, people.
    2. I am sure if the super-cute pregnant you showed at PW's, she would usher you in and feed you anything you desired. And she'd be sweeter than your grandma the whole time. She's that amazing.

  18. That is exactly what I craved my entire pregnancy... spaghetti!! I literally ate it five or six nights in a row one time. Yeah, that's a little crazy, but I was pregnant and refused to substitute. ha

  19. This is so funny... even with an Italian husband, I have never been one to want pasta... it just wasn't my thing. I would eat it but I never craved it. THE SECOND I got pregnant it was ALL pasta ALL the time... creamy, cheesy pasta. Everyone joked it was because I was having an Italian baby! I think I ate more pasta in my 9mos of pregnancy than I have the last 9 years... totally get it!!

  20. My mom always broke hers in half, so naturally that what I always did UNTIL I got married, and my hubs would have none of that, so whole is how I now make my spaghetti.
I know those cravings! And they are TOTALLY different with every pregnancy. Your body might be telling you something, so just go with it!

  21. I always break them. I will have to try them whole noodle. (-:

  22. I married into an Italian family, so when I first had their Spaghetti, I was hooked! It's so good. Oh, now I need pasta!

  23. I'm a whole noodle girl!

And that bowl of spaghetti looks SO yummo!

  24. Whole Noodles all the way! And you're right, linguine would have ruined it... I am peticular about pasta shapes/sizes.. I swear it really does taste different!! Just one of those things I guess.
