My 16 Year Old Self.

If I could talk to my 16 year old self today, I would tell her these things:

~ Doc Martens are no good for future fashion sense, but optimal for leg toning right now ... so keep wearing them, girlfriend!

~ Left turn yield on green. Drill it in to your brain, child.

~ There are other clothing stores out there besides Abercrombie & Fitch. Believe it or not!

~ Stay close to your friends who act around others as they do around you. They'll stick around for life.

~ Don't get your hopes up; you don't end up marrying Taylor Hanson.

~ You will, however, marry someone even better. He'll walk into your life when you least expect it. And turn it upside down.

~ When you meet him, play hard-to-get. Works like a charm.

~ When you make a decision because your heart says it's right, don't go back on it.

~ Pay attention in Algebra. You won't remember a bit of it in college and will cause unnecessary stress. And a less than amazing grade.

~ Your happily ever after is better than the fairytales - so keep doing what you're doing and stick with your convictions. It's worth it. Trust me.

~ Hey WhitBug24, Chat Rooms and Instant Messaging are a thing of the past. Technology gets much, much better.

~ You might want to change your e-mail address. Explaining TIZ14 to people may be a little awkward. (Taylor Isaac Zac and 14 being part of Taylor's birthdate.) (Hanson obsessed doesn't EVEN cover it.)

~ You don't realize what great shape you are in right now. SEE IT and RELISH in it! :)

~ You know that shirt you have that says, "cheerleading is life, the rest is just details"? Burn it. And stop being ridiculous.

~ Don't showboat and run down that hill at Casa Bonita. It doesn't end well.

~ Don't take curves going 65mph. You will almost die in your future Husby's college town. PAY ATTENTION.

~ WHAT are you going to do with all of those red gum balls?

~ Keep your life goals a priority and don't change them just because they're not "the norm". You'll get there, child. And it will all be totally worth it.

What would you tell YOUR 16 year old self?
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  4. Ah...Casa Bonita! I have many fond memories of that place. I'm so sad that it's closed now.

  5. I had the same Cheerleading is Life t-shirt! And one that said "I only cheer on days that end with Y". Ha!

  6. This was so fun to read! I can relate to almost all of them.

  7. I don't think I would have listened to myself, but I would have said to be nicer to my parents and listen to them - the fights aren't worth it, they actually DO know more than you, and they really just had your best interest at heart. Always. No matter how mean you thought they were!

  8. HA, Doc Martens! Oh my, what were we thinking? ;)

  9. Great post! Oh the things I would tell that girl back then! That prince charming really does exist!

  10. Hahah I love this! And I Love TIZ14. SOOO funny!!! I love this idea!

  11. Oh my gosh, I LOVE the Hanson references! I was also OBSESSED so I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one!

  12. LOL! My email address was BritHITZ5 after Britney Spears and Hanson (Isaac, Taylor, Zac) and the band 5ive.

  13. I totally had doc martins too! They were so bulky...what was I thinking? Excited todo a 16 year old self sometime this week! Fun post!!

  14. Hilarious, heartfelt, and I don't know where I would start in what I would tell the 16 year old me!

  15. A lot of the same stuff. Except, I wasn't obsessed with Hanson. But the driving advice. Most definitely. And the part about being in awesome shape, even moreso. Very cute post.

  16. I echo your part about being in good shape. I wish I would have relished it then, instead of disliking my body. I wish I had that body NOW!

I would tell my college self to have more fun. I wish I wouldn't have taken it so seriously.

  17. I would tell myself...
STOP THINKING ABOUT BOYS ALL THE TIME!! You're wasting your time!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I loved reading all that! I would probably tell myself to stay focused on my goals, that all the high school stuff doesn't really matter. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. What you percieve to be the worst thing that ever happened to you will actually turn out to me the best so quit sneaking into the "blue hallway" of your new school to cry.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So cute..love it! I had that same cheerleading shirt...in every color.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh that's all great advice!

If I had to tell my 16 year old self something it would be:

    - This too shall pass
-All those things you are doing to seem cool and mature make you look naive
-Don't think how people act on TV is how they act in real life.
