Stair Steps.

Spring is always a time of renewing. The flowers come out, the sun shines, the breeze blows and a sense of "newness" washes over all of us. This spring, I am super excited about the things ahead of us. It is going to definitely be a spring to remember for our little family. Husby will walk across the stage and proudly graduate from Medical School and fifteen days later, my little boy will turn two. These are HUGE things for us! We have been waiting for this day for Husby for a long time, and I know I will be overcome with emotion when it finally comes. I can't put into words what the past four years have been like for us, but it has been extremely hard yet we've had amazing blessings in the midst of them. Seeing Husby achieve something he has literally worked his entire life for is an overwhelming, crazy awesome thing. And I can not wait!

We are planning on taking Levi on his first "real" vacation in early June to celebrate all that we have to celebrate this Spring, and before we jump head first into the equally (probably more) overwhelming season of life that is Residency. I know that the next 3 years will be something fierce, so we are approaching it with much prayer and direction, hoping the Lord helps us tackle them with as much grace and wisdom as we possibly can.

We were talking to a physician at church the other day, discussing Husby's residency spot and he said, "it never seems over, does it? There's always another level to get to." And that is exactly right. I feel like we are on a stair case, and just as soon as we take one step up, there's always the next step to take. But, I guess that is what life always consists of. The next step. And they are necessary to take until we reach the final prize - Heaven.

So, we will keep on stair steppin' with the best of 'em and making the most of the whole process. And this spring, we will celebrate the last four years of our lives, the step behind us. The craziest, busiest, fullest, most stressful, and also some of the greatest years of our lives (specifically the last two). And we'll celebrate what lies ahead.

What are you looking forward to this spring?
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I am looking forward to Dennis finally having some relief from this terrible back pain. We go Friday for a procedure that is supposed to help him. Praying it works.

  2. Congratulations to your family!
For our family this spring, our oldest finished elementary school and moves onto middle school. I'm praying that this spring brings a pause in surgeries and dr appts for me...but one step at a time.
I'm looking forward to each day with the family and spending some serious time at the pool kicking back with them.

  7. I'm looking forward to starting our lives in our new house and the changes it will bring.

Good for you for taking a family vacation before the insanity begins. I was going to guess New England as the destination, since you love it so much! Wherever you go, it will be a special time. Yay for the next step!

  9. I feel like we are SO MUCH alike in so many ways! My husband is about to take his oral boards on April 12--the very last step in our medical process!!! I know exactly what you mean about stair steps. It feels like you can never really take a deep breath because there's always another schedule change, a test to study for, or just more stress. Just know that we're in your boat, and as a couple (with a 2 year old!) fresh out of residency, it will be so worth it! You have an awesome attitude and perspective, and you love your husband and son deeply--my husband says that's the best support we can give! :)

I'm looking forward to a vacation. My husband and I married in September 2010 but we didn't get a chance to take a real honeymoon. We're in the process of planning a vacation to make up for it :)

  12. I love the comment about once you turn one step, there is another. Isn't that just how it is with children? Or life in general? Loved reading this, can't wait to read all about your first "family" vacation :)

  15. I love this. I have felt the same way with my husband and his career but never really thought about all of our final destinations. The future is so exciting for your family and what accomplishments! I can not believe Levi is already almost two I feel like I was just reading your post about his first birthday. Thank you for always reminding us to look at things in a different more godly way!

  17. We're looking forward to welcoming our third child in May! I have visions of a perfect, peaceful maternity leave as well. Our oldest will be done with Kindergarten and (hopefully) will be a big helper for me. I imagine warm, sunny days spent in our screen porch nursing the baby while the other two play nicely in the sunshine...we'll see how true that turns out to be!!!
Where are you going on your vacation?
