Purge Baby, Purge.

Why hello there! Let me introduce myself. My name is Whitney, I'm 27 years old....oh wait, I guess I was only gone for a week. It felt like years, guys! I very much missed your fanciful comments and peeking in on your blog to see what's new with you. You might be wondering where I went.

I could tell you that I was afloat the most prestigious cruise ship to ever set sail the great blue waters of the USA. Titanic-esque Style. Eating the most lavish gourmet feasts and sunning on a deck adorned with crystals and gold. Touring hidden gems of locations on a romantic rendezvous with my husband.

Or I could tell you that I was in Uganda helping starved little children and matching them up with the most perfect adoptive parents they could imagine. Showering them with baked delicacies and mounds of savory treats to nourish their bodies. Telling them lessons about the Bible, sharing the love of Jesus and praying over their little souls.

I guess I could tell you that I was on a top secret mission for the CIA, sent to a remote part of the world. Helping with a situation so massively important that your head would spin, jaw would drop and legs would give out from under you if I uttered a word of it's subject matter. Sniping bad guys, changing my appearance with dyed black hair as short as a man's and answering by my alias "Ameile Fitzroy".

Or. I could put my grandiose tales aside and tell you the truth.

I was home.

I was home knee deep in stuff.

I was home purging our lives of things we don't need, haven't used in a year or didn't want ... and I got rid of them.

I dove into the deepest crevices of every closet, every nook, every cranny, and I separated into three piles: Goodwill, Give to Friends, Yard Sale. Guys. It took for-ev-er. At one point, Husby looked at me with a look of bewilderment and said, "how on earth do three people accumulate this much STUFF?" Well, I don't exactly have an answer to that question, but I do know that I got rid of things I'd been holding on to for years. And it feels GREAT.

So. While I missed filling you in on the sometimes meaningful, sometimes meaningless details of my every day life, I got more accomplished than I ever expected. When I wasn't at Church or Bible study or the grocery store or fulfilling other varieties of commitments of this past week, I was locked away in a room slinging stuff over my shoulder and ridding my life of un-necessaties.

....

And dreaming about the cruise ship, the hungry children and the top secret missions that I was otherwise missing out on.

Oh, and blogging.

Missed y'all!

  10. Missed you Whitney!! Your blog is my favorite, and I read A LOT of blogs.

This past April, just after I got married and just before I moved to a completely new city to start my life with my husband, I had a yard sale and sold almost every single thing I had. It was bittersweet to see it all go - it was as if I went and sold a piece of myself (and for dirt cheap, mind you!) - but I knew it was all to make room for better things. And those better things DID come, and are still coming. :)

  11. Oh my goodness! Want to come help me? haha..

Normally I am such a purger- common question to dh: "Can I throw this away?" His immediate response "No." "Wait, what is it?" He is soo broken into me just tossing stuff ;)

Lately though, I've struggled with wanting to set up the nursery/which will share with the office-- which means throwing away books/things I've organized from college (still!) etc.. Lol. New chapters, I guess!

Thanks for sharing yours, maybe I can use it for motivation?! We'll see!
