October Road.

Does anyone remember that television series, October Road? It was only on for a season or two and then it was dropped. I was pretty upset because I had finally found a show to really get into and they just snatched it from me like a bully and a nerd's lunch money. This post really has nothing to do with that show, but instead, the beautiful month of October.

For me, October is the gateway to the holiday season. As the air welcomes a chill, our hearts take a slow, soft turn as we become homebodies and fill our calendars with family excursions. We as women venture into the kitchen more and create warm, hearty meals to fill our families tummies and as the moon makes his debut earlier each night, we cuddle close together by the light of a fire and create special memories of the arrival of a new season.

When I dream about fall, October is always at the front of my mind - flooding it with some of my favorite things.

The anticipation of crisp mornings and cool evenings.
Every shade of brown, gold and deep red in nature, the stores and our homes.
Apple desserts.
Pumpkin patches with my Weebie.
The State Fair.
Festivals with my Mom.
Celebrating my Dad's birthday.
Dressing Levi up for Halloween and taking hundreds of pictures to try and capture the precious memories.
Sweaters, boots, cardigans and jackets.
Hot caramel apple cider.
Seasonal goodies from Williams Sonoma.
Acorns, pinecones, berries, leaves.

This time of year seems to be a lot of people's favorite. I don't know about you, but I breathe a big sigh of relief when I kiss goodbye those 100 degree days and eagerly applaud the 60's as they come in and steal the show.

Life is good in October.

What are some favorite stops on YOUR October Road?
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  3. Hey Whitney,

I apologize this comment is going to be a little off topic but I just wanted to let you know that ABC family has decided not to renew HUGE. I remember you blogging that it is one of your favorite shows...it is one of mine as well! I am going to try to get some contact info for ABC family and see how many people I can get to voice their support. Let me know if you'd be willing!
Thanks and have a wonderful day! :-)

  5. I liked that show too! I love Fall myself...the crisp air, the better sleep you get when it's cold at night, the mums, the pumpkins, the purty leaves...but I do not like fall clean up.

  6. I loved that show...

And I love Fall. But I hate rain. Cold, blustery days are fine with me, as long as they stay DRY, LOL! That must be the California girl in me talking.

  10. Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year! I love the smells, the cooler weather, and the good feelings I feel during this time of year. Unfortunately where I live, we don't get the colors! I love bundling up and I especially love the food.

  14. The first thing I do (on Oct. 1st!) is put pumpkins out on the porch and in the rocking chairs, pull down the fall decorations, light the spice candles, and turn down the a/c so I can wear a sweater.
Hey, when you live in Houston and there is only 1 season, you improvise!
