Weebie Wednesday: Poor Little Sweetheart.

SickWeeb-5

I posted yesterday about Levi's little hives and the mystery of it all. I took him to the doctor yesterday and we got some answers. Praise God!

I was a little worried that Levi's hives would disappear once we got to the office, so I made sure to get some good pictures of them, just in case. But, the hives were so bad yesterday that he still had a few once we made it to his appointment. Poor little angel.

The doctor took one look at it and knew exactly what it was. Hives caused by a viral infection. Though I have never heard of or seen such a thing, she said it is very common. Then, she looked inside of his ears and the poor little buddy has an ear infection. Husby got his otoscope stolen, so we weren't able to see the ear problems at home. This is Levi's first ear infection, and the hives were definitely a new thing, so I guess now we know that when and if the little hives appear again, he'll likely have an ear infection. Bizarre!

She prescribed three meds and today he is worlds better. He's only had two hives today. Yesterday they were all over his body - head to toe! I mean, they were everywhere and it was a-w-f-u-l. I hope his ear feels better, but there's really no way of me knowing. Levi never tugged, pulled on his ear or complained at ALL, so we thought the hives were an allergic reaction. We had no idea he was so sick!

He is always such a happy, content, energetic, full-of-life little guy....even when he's not feeling good. I am so happy we found the solution to this problem and he is on his way to 100%!

(This is him today! I wish I was so happy when I'm sick!)

  5. Good thing he had those hives after all! Otherwise he might have gotten a lot sicker before you noticed. Praise God for those little blessings that don't seem so great at the time! :)

  6. I'm SO thankful for doctors who can get to the bottom of baby mysteries. Sometimes I have to fight the urge to hug our pediatrician! Hope your sweet boy is all better in no time!

  7. Poor baby!

I took my 8 month old to the Dr. last week and he had an ear infection, bronchitis, and hand foot and mouth disease. And the whole time I figured it was just a virus!

    Hope Levi feels better soon!

  10. My pediatrician jokes with us about our boys being in the best moods even when they are sick. We've had to use the "better safe than sorry" method since they were babies because I never knew if they were sick. Now at ages 7 and 6 they can tell us...but really never get very cranky! Me...not so much! :)

  11. BTW...the method "better safe than sorry" is when I bring them in for a sick visit rather than risk it. It I thought maybe there was something wrong I called...just in case!

  12. I almost left a comment yesterday because my soon-to-be-three-year-old gets hives when she has a virus. They just come along with the generic virus all kids seem to get (there's a fever, not feeling well, etc, etc, but no real name for it, just the generic "it's a virus"), she's never had an ear infection. So next time he gets them it could be some type of virus other than the ear infection. For us, benedryl clears up the hives and time gets rid of the virus. :) Glad you got an answer, though!

  16. I had a similiar situation with my son who is now 11yo. He had this weird rash on his back and our friend who is a NP said it was just viral. But is got so bad that it ended up making weird white dots on his back where he wouldn't go without a shirt at the swimming pool. So finally I took him to a dermatologist and they said basicly he has a form of eczema that all of the "perfumed" soaps and shampoos made worse. We switched to Cetaphil soap and T-sal shampoo and now his skin is so much better. So just keep that in mind in case it doesn't get better.
